So, if you work incredibly hard to innovate and develop your own idea, and take great risk financially to do so, you would have no problem with someone else taking that idea from you and profiting at your expense? 1. Does your business of microgreens get inspected like a resturant does since u r handling food. 2. How many employees do u have if any. 3. Would love to work for a company like this.
If selling to a restaurant everything needs to be restaurant grade. There are also requirements for being a wholesaler that many state cottage laws allow you get around if selling on your property or at a farmers market. Since differing states and municipalities have different requirements you may need to meet with an attorney to sort it all out. You may also find that there is a gap between what you can do by yourself and where you need to be to have a similarly profitable commercial operation.
First growing microgreens are not sprouts because they are cut, so mainly you need to have clean trays, clean sanitation processes, a sink nearby. Every state has different listed protocols-for KS this is on the KState page, maybe check your local jurisdiction rules. Just like owning a food truck or something should you go big. But you do not have to treat this as a food handlers situation if you sell roadside or at a farmers market in Kansas. When you are selling small scale such as to a farm and art market you can bake your own cookies in a kitchen which isn't even certified as a bakery, but you are supposed to have directions labeled as to what the product is, whether it was washed. Rules mainly apply to commercial growers and when growing and selling to a grocery store or a restaurant. I would cross that bridge once you are a successful grower. Many growers not only grow microgreens but other veggies or flowers, so you do not have to concentrate solely on edibles, this is completely agricultural, yes its edible. It should be free from mold, animal or bugs/bacteria, but again, it is cut from the roots, so it should be free from those things, especially if you are following this business model. Grow indoors under grow lights and it will be relatively sanitary, otherwise to grow outdoors you will need to use greenhouse/shade cloth.
I checked at Sprouts market they sell their sprouts for #3.99 for 1.75 oz - you'd get 8.75 oz for 5 containers is 19.95 - where he sells 20 oz for $20. I'd use his business too.
Curious about the direct harvest to clamshell method and if that produces condensation in the container. I cut to bins so field heat comes off first, and have found that cooling them without lids works best, because of condensation otherwise. Great video. Thanks
When I harvest I immediately put my product in clamshells and into cold storage. It does condensate but it only rests on the plastic for an hour or so, I have microgreens in my fridge at home right now that I harvested 27 days ago and they just stopped being crunchy. I do wonder if chilling them before putting them in clamshells first might produce a longer lasting product.
Interesting. I just heard about microgreens and how people are making a lot of money. What about food safety though? Do you need to be certified and licensed to sell the public?
The growing isn’t the concern it’s the distribution that I’m wanting more details. If selling out of your house, who do you look for buyers? In the beginning

Direct to consumer is easier said than done. My restaurant orders were several hundred dollars with one quick stop a week. Seems like it will take me a ton of customers to equal just one restaurant client.

I'm from Illinois near Chicago he'd never make that much money selling microgreens around here everybody's doing it you should tell the people about the competition instead of selling a pipe dream
Okay then be the better competitor and stand out. Shut the competition down. In everything, there’s always another person doing what you’re doing. It’s up to you to step up your game.
Expand your product line to include must haves that will make you the preferred all in one source. Another grower cornered his own market by happenstance because he was growing his micro greens in full sun, making them far more colorful and flavorful than anyone else’s.
Interesting information. I have one question. If you deliver to someone at let’s say 8am and they get at hone at 5 pm from work, how do the micro greens survive being in a mailbox for 9 hours when it’s either below zero during winter or scorching hot during the summer?
It really just sounds like efficient restaurant prep except you grow your own food. Amazing stuff and really pretty simple if you think about it. It’s a straight line from seed to door.

It does condensate but it only rests on the plastic for an hour or so, I have microgreens in my fridge at home right now that I harvested 27 days ago and they just stopped being crunchy. I do wonder if chilling them before putting them in clamshells first might produce a longer lasting product.
How long from packing to customer do the micro greens last.whats the amount of time that you can eat the greens .
I loved this video, thought it was incredibly factual & informative. I'm ready to grow a few microgreens at home!
Truly inspiring. Now I am starting to consider adding this to our business model. Thank you for sharing! Cheers from Spain.
Great content, and I love your t-shirt!
really fun conversation, well-done
Much love 🌱💚
Interesting. I just heard about microgreens and how people are making a lot of money. What about food safety though? Do you need to be certified and licensed to sell the public?
Kitazawa Seed Co is in California in case anybody was wondering
Thank you I’m in Cali will heading out to these location much! Bless load 🥰🙏
That's cool that you are offering other people your business plan. I wish I had the space and money to buy more growing equipment.
The growing isn’t the concern it’s the distribution that I’m wanting more details. If selling out of your house, who do you look for buyers? In the beginning
I've heard farmers markets are a good way to get customers.
This was great. Just starting and trying to absorb as much info as possible.
Awesome conversation!!! I found a lot of value in this. Thank you 🙏❤️
Good morning Curtis, great content! How do you recommend us finding buyers or the demand for microgreens in our areas? Thanks!
Good question, what’s the answer?!
Ask around, and less rural areas would have a higher demand.
Amazing info work and very valuable for anyone looking into any sort of small-scale food growing...
Where to buy the shelf that microgreens are on?
Just found your channel the other day. Loving the shirts....like this one in particular.
Well done to both of you. Great interviewer and interviewee!
Subscribed!!!!! Thanks I pray abundance always be with you and your family 🙏🏻
Great video! Great questions and information provided!!
The fact that this kid can grow micro greens us evidence enough of how easy they are to cultivate.
What an awesome conversation.
This has been an amazing eye opener for me. I've been #tuned in since 2017 on my personal channel and even my gaming channel and now I've been inspired to start my own agricultural business and homestead and listen to you to flee NYC. I have no regrets! I signed up for the courses as I build my property up. #Thankyoufortheinformation I would still be a slave worker in the biggest city in the world if you haven't confirmed what was already in my heart and soul screaming to get out. #Keepupthegreatwork I hope to be one of your #successstories #growing #microgreens and #sustaining my #family one day. #Cheers @UrbanFarmerCurtisStone
Can US growers stay in business if our restaurants go under?
yes, direct to consumer
Watch the interview and you'll know
@@ronnychristenjoyer6778 Thank you 🙏
Yes, this video gives these exact insights
Direct to consumer is easier said than done. My restaurant orders were several hundred dollars with one quick stop a week. Seems like it will take me a ton of customers to equal just one restaurant client.
The way you asked each ?uestion was SEAMLESS 🙏 🤲
So 1. Market 2. Distribution management 3. Software management 5. Matching supply and demand 6. Feedback
7. Live in NYC...a population density and economy that supports your product
funny what moves us to comment; here in Ireland I've been studying your videos the last few days, incl. you're venture into the mountains. best wishes with that; there's magic @ min. 24:22; the fridge being loaded just as Donny says it :)
Thanks
came here for the interview, subbed because of your shirt!
any chance I get that sunflower and broccoli seed supplier from Italy?
Same question here, i can't find a good compromise between quality and costs.
can you package microgreens in something that's not plastic?
My friend and I are just now starting a micro green farm after already farming 300 acres here on the coastside of half moon bay. I’d love to connect and bring you to the farm here in cali.
Do you recycle the soil? If so do you have a vid demonstrating the process?
Hi Brad. We have a very short clip on recycling microgreen soil: ruclips.net/video/SURM8HIkeK0/видео.html
You both freaking legends ! ! !
Came for the microgreens, stayed for the shirt ❤️❤️❤️
This is so insightfull. Thank you very much.
What’s crazy is not even a month ago I had the same idea, why not deliver locally? Great move
So how long would it take to eat your sunny sampler.
How often do you deliver
Interesting information. I have one question. If you deliver to someone at let’s say 8am and they get at hone at 5 pm from work, how do the micro greens survive being in a mailbox for 9 hours when it’s either below zero during winter or scorching hot during the summer?
The restaurant industry is collapsing due to record inflation. Hope these businesses can survive and adapt.
It really just sounds like efficient restaurant prep except you grow your own food. Amazing stuff and really pretty simple if you think about it. It’s a straight line from seed to door.
How involved does the government have to be in this business? Can you do it without inspection or license? I know it varies by state
You can do anything without the government. Never invite a vampire into your house ;)
Could you give the website for his business? I can't find it and I'm curious what his sign-up system looks like.

Why nor spray hydrogen peroxide on sunflower seeds after initial planting?
who are you selling the products to?
No delis in the neighborhood? What are we doing to ourselves?
Question, can I feed the root scraps of the micro greens to my compost pile with composting worms or no?
Yes! 👍
