Love how it lists being compatible with Celeron processors, the natural CPU companion to a board at this price point.
If you spend all you money on a motherboard and you still need a CPU then a Celeron it is.

Yea I use almost every port on my Asus prime x570-pro there are IO limits so it doesn’t work quite like that in many cases
I thought they were out of their minds when i heard about this. Honestly though, with all those board features + memory + water cooling bits + limited run "prestige", this isn't nearly as overpriced as it seems at first glance.
Agreed. I expected to laugh at it, but with everything it has, it's pretty close to worth the price. No chance to afford it, but not a scam for what you get, which is, apperently, everything.
That's what I was thinking too. While very expensive, with retail prices on DDR5, including a cooler, plus a very high end board, it isn't near as bad as what you first think.
For all it's perks and features it is not unreasonable especially if you are someone who saves up for a once in a few years epic over the top build.
@@christophermzdenek the added ram and cooler certainly put the price a little more into perspective, but its still about 2x the price it should be. they showed the $600 board has basically everything this board has except the 10g lan and 1 less m2 slot (and who needs 5 let alone 6). i wouldnt buy this simply because i dont want their crappy water cooler when i already have an nh-d15, but even if they took that out id not pay more than ~$850 for this, id just get the $600 one, or even another step down from it instead.
@@iris4547 I mostly agree. This was made for either someone with a rather specific use case scenerio in mind, and those with more money than sense. With those two groups in mind, at least it's not a complete rip off. It's a solid product for it's price. One that I would never consider, but I can appreciate it. Simalar to having no way of, or desire to own a Lambo..., but I can appreciate the cost of it's engineering.

Also to note toslink has a bandwidth cap of 96khz for most devices while hdmi has like 256/328. This is of course treading on audiophile/snake oil bandwidth for audio

I have the same problem, I"m using my PC with my 5.1 System. It's ass that there's no functionality to only transfer audio, always have to deal with the additional Monitor in Windows.

You can get an HDMI ghost adapter for $10 if you do want to use HDMI audio without actually plugging it in to a monitor

Woooooow. It was only 7 years ago that MSI's top tier GODLIKE board was like $600-$700.
Back in the before time, when GPUs sold at or under MSRP.
Which is still ridiculous, but at least slightly realistic for a high-high end build.
My MSI X99A Godlike Gaming Carbon was about 600 Euros and I thought that was expensive... Mainboards are now more expensive than the top tier CPU for it. At least in the "mainstream" market. Thats crazy...

In before Linus uses this motherboard for his new server PC at the new house. Still, we get more Anthony on ShortCircuit, so I was already all-in.
Linus needs MSI and Intel to buy him a new house to put it in. The current one is looking pretty old.
Intel don't live in Canada so that's not going to happen.🤭 Intel would need citizen ship first to buy a house there.

This board is 1/4th my build but it's still egregious as fuck. No motherboard should be more than 100-125% of the cost of the absolute best CPU it can carry/utilize.

@@jamietheweeb487 Nah, with the monitors and all peripherals it's over 10k. 3090 Strix + 5950x + Crosshair VIII Xtreme + almost 8tb of SSD-only storage, 2tb M.2 rest is all 860 and 870 Pro SSDs. Tons of Lian Li fans in a 5000X and a Corsair RM1000x with fully custom cables.
Videos with Anthony are just something else! Love this dude😁
With a price like that i'd expect it to come with a secondary backup cpu
1) I'm in for the cable markers - maybe do them made of velcro or something to have them reusable / repositionable ?

I happened to pick up a used 2070 Super recently and I went back and watched your video about them. I'm not sure if it would be feasible, but I think it's a cool idea: a little series on this channel where each episode a component (or two) is unboxed for a PC build so the finale is the final build!

$2100, has TWO USB Type-C ports, and only supports 15W charging? Doesn't Thunderbolt 4 (or USB-C for that matter) spec a MINIMUM of 60W? If I'm getting two type C ports, which in and of itself is a miracle, I want my wall-wart-level 60W or 100W charging, dammit! Although, to be fair, that would require a 1500W+ power supply if you're using a 3090 and a 12900 on this...

No not at all. Type C is just the port shape. It could be 5W charging and NO datalines, but still be usb type C.
Wether its USB 3.2X2 or whatever the USB has renamed 10gig to.... is separate
Those higher USB-C wattages are at higher voltages than 12V which would require a large amount of circuitry to drive
Type C is just the connector type, nothing related to the power and data specifications.
@@ilovefunnyamv2nd those type c ports are real Thunderbolt 4 ports. This motherboard doesn't have a thunderbolt header to optionally add on the thunderbolt ports. If you compare the thunderbolt ports on this motherboard to something like ASUS's ThunderboltEX4 expansion card, ASUS does support 100W charging.
It's really cool to see Anthony's confidence as a presenter grow since he first started with LTT. Been the favorite presenter since and still is now.

1:28 An integrated Aquantia 10GbE NIC is spicy, but the Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Master does that for less than a quarter the price.... Haha
How is that not an Intel 10GbE NIC on a $2k board.
When did Intel become a name in 10GbE? In the server realm, Intel and Aquantia/Marvell were always the de facto budget options. Few of their offerings have strong standards support, offloading, or memory capability at all. Aquantia at least has surprisingly good support with regular firmware updates all the way back to their 100 series, whereas Intel seemingly bifurcated their hardware stack.
Where are the better controllers? Chelsio or Mellanox, perhaps? Granted, home users won't realize the benefits, but these boards are dual PHY populated. Why not offer memory for offloading?
That said, I'm certain the answer is RJ45 PHY is far too laggy for anything serious, so anyone running RJ45 ethernet won't notice our cheap Aquantia or Intel controllers. =/
I use the test bench stand things for my overclocking rig so I can swap ram and cpus out easy. They work but they're pretty janky if you don't use the fan to help keep them together.
Nice to have if you have a use but I wouldn't use them to set up the motherboard for testing before building your rig. You can just put the mobo on the box and make it take 20 minutes less setup time lol

I guess it performs really well and it has a lot of features. Like 20 phase is about as good as it gets but my question is, if you spend that much on a motherboard, du you really use the included AIO and RAM? I'd imagine that at least 90% of the people who bought that gonna do a custom loop and want some more esthetic RAM. Does the RAM at least perform well?

@@CrazyGuitarTV nooo they came with my b550 Unify-X I use for AMD benching. I really wouldn't buy the godlike even for Extreme overclocking. I'd get something with only one dimm per channel and actually useful features for OC.

I just built my computer with a MSI Z590 Ace and am really happy with it so far. Still learning to making the most of it and the bios settings, but altough it's got 11th gen Intel sockets I'm enjoying good performance which will last me years to come.

Their MEG X570 Godlike was like $700. I don't understand what justifies suddenly tripling the price in one generation?? Even their "reasonable top-tier" board is the price of the insane one before

Toslink is great for splicing audio in. I used to have dual monitor and would leave my PC running on one monitor with something like Teamspeak open, then send my PS3 audio over optical into my PC so I only had to use one headset to hear my game audio and my PC audio.

I love my MSI MEG X670 ACE - heaviest mobo I've ever worked with, by far. It did not quite have the $2100 price tag but at $700 it was the most expensive mobo I ever bought, too. Main reason was to get all the NMVE slots and the 10 Gbe port as well as being able to run fast DDR5 RAM.

It's kind of sad when a company tries to cram so many PCIe devices on an Intel board.
Why? Intel typically has way more pcie lanes than AMD so can actually them all at full speed.
right, although alder lake has quite a lot of pcie bandwidth for a consumer board (with prosumer pricing) it's really not enough to do these setups, would much rather see them on a proper workstation board
@@oxfordsparky Intel 12th gen only has 16x PCIe Gen 5 lanes and 4x Gen 4 lanes... The only boards that Intel and AMD have that have more than 20 to 24 lanes are Xeon/Threadripper which is where multiple pcie slots are actually very useful. Otherwise...not really useful at all unless you just wanna run your GPU and a sound card but sound cards are borderline obsolete except for niche use.

Yeah. anytime I get stuck in a boot loop or other, first I gotta look what motherboard I have, then I gotta look up the manual, then dig for the troubleshoot codes.

If you want a good X570 board I can personally recommend the MSI Prestige Creation. Really great looking and solid board and honestly the I/O is sexy
Can confirm. Bought specifically for a VR build (Vive pro wireless with 10 point FBT). Sooooo many usb ports, and the 10g is nice as well.
Rocking this board myself with a 5950x and can say it's a brilliant, stable board, that looks really good too IMHO.

I really would like to see how a top tier 5.1 pc gaming setup would work. It's 2022 and I'm still using my good old Logitech Z-5500 connected via 3x AUX cables. Isn't there a better way?
I've read in the comments below that if you use a HDMI A/V receiver, Windows shows a second monitor, although you only want to push audio data through that.
The voice that comes out and says ''problem with the graphics card'' during the bios could actually be a feature that I would like to see on motherboard, this could help a lot with troubleshooting.
I had to rma a gigabyte b660 and had the option of another working b660 of the same model or a msi z690 at ten gbp more, the online place had two 12th gen ddr4 boards to pick from at the time. I know it's over kill for a 12400f but it's well worth 150 gbp and made zero sense not to pay the extra. Can always upgrade chip to next one's if socket supports as well 😀..
Ive heard MSI has really good customer support, was your experience with them good?
Since this is Intel, the board will be OK for current 12th gen and future 13-ish but they don't like to miss out on profit.

Weird about having TOSLINK? That is literally a deciding factor when I buy a motherboard. My amp (5.1 channel) has 3 inputs, Toslink, 3.5 stereo and a coaxial. Therefore digital audio without interference is the only sensible option.
Keep the optical audio connection. I would like to continue using my headset!

The toslink port is very important for me because I use it for my Beyerdynamic HeadZone and Creative X7. If this port was gone, I will not be able to use them.
The test bench really works if you support it with a fan. How else would you repurpose a broken 120 or 140 mm fan?
I'm confused, why is it weird for a MB to have TOSLINK? Most 2.0/2.1 audio systems still have TOSLINK as well, and it works perfectly well.
I think most of us don't even bother with the on board audio and just use the hdmi out. Back when I did though, toslink went to my wireless headset transmitter. Loved it

it doesn't, unless you run into power delivery issues most mobos shouldn't have more than a few % difference depending on the benchmarks
msi knows absolutely no one will buy this. So they included the test bench stands because it's just a reviewers motherboard. And 2100 for something that is just aircooled. The price would make a little more sense if they had partnered with bitspower.
S/PDIF is still used in hearing aid products. I have a device that connects via that connector to wirelessly stream audio into hearing aids!
I had the MSI MEG Z490 Godlike with i7-11700K and it was very nice - with two PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 slots, and had a daughterboard with fan cooling for two PCIe Gen 4 M.2 NVME SSD on the second slot, plus 3 more PCIe Gen 3 M.2 SSD slots on the mail board (5 total). Never used the Thunderbolt or 10gbps network, and my son convinced me to move to AMD 5950X/Asus Dark Hero for bragging rights. But the overclocked 11700K was all I needed for gaming, and MSI made overclocking easy - coulda saved a lot of money if I had stuck with it..

Problem with so many things packed into the box is that if just one thing is bad, the retailers providing support want you to send the whole package back, even if just one fan is DoA.
Now I get why it costs $2K

the real question is. that mobo he said you should buy. if you add the the memory and rad and fans and everything else that came with the godlike. how much would you really save?
Last time I had to use a 10G NIC with an Aquantia chip it would randomly error out. Not sure if it was the card or the Windows drivers, but it was swiftly replaced by an Intel card that worked flawlessly. (This was during a live video streaming event so time to debug was limited. We can exclude "latest firmware and drivers" though as those were on there.)
The only other Aquantia/Marvell AQtion card I encountered was part of a friend's NAS and was similarly unreliable until its firmware was updated, which involved ripping it out of the NAS and flashing it using a Linux PC as they had not seen fit to actually code an ARM compatible flashing tool.
Unless they've gotten drastically better in recent years, no thank you!
I mean, it's not that overpriced anymore when you consider the cpu cooler and the ram they give you in the box as well. those two together are likely around 700-800$ already, so the motherboard is more around the 1200$ mark. still a lot, but far from overly extreme as I've seen a couple in that price range already.

Need help
Can't flash windows when Legacy is disabled
My ultimate aim is to get the hard disk formatted GPT rather than MBR and boot accordingly.
The laptop boots from USB as long as "Legacy Support" is enabled in BIOS. When I change this to disabled the laptop won't boot from USB and reports the hard disk error 3F0
Note: When "Legacy Support" is disabled in BIOS, the F9 boot screen shows no entries
I tried Rufus with GPT partition and windows media creation tool as well.
My question is how can I get the laptop to boot in GPT mode from USB to allow me to install windows with GPT partitions?
Yeah the Audioquest cables are ridiculously expensive, They have basic Pearl (cheaper) versions though, would've liked to see them in your HDMI testing.
Strange that it isn't on Amazon, I am only finding the Z590 version.

Picked up the X570S Msi Ace Max and I love it and for the price point of 365 couldn't pass it up, just wish I had a better CPU then a 2700x to actually put it through its paces
Sell things with the "Unboxed by....." tag and signature. Makes that one of the thing unique.
The reason that motherboards still have TOSLINK is because it’s the best way to connect RCA speakers to a PC without any external equipment. If you’ve got some RCA speakers, you ideally want to give them an original analogue signal, so TOSLINK is the best option for most digital interfaces. RCA speakers have been the go to for vinyl and hifi enthusiasts for decades, so it makes sense to maintain compatibility with them even now that most folks use USB or phono speakers.
Those audio enthusiasts are a big market, so the small expense of a TOSLINK connector on a board is worth it.
So yeah, in short, it is kinda weird that mobos still have TOSLINK, but it’s definitely got it’s purpose especially in audio production and enthusiast audio listening circles, who are also coincidentally a very big spending market for computer hardware
What's weird about TOSLink? It's a good way to get digital audio out.
That thing you bend is a cable cover. You put these on the sides of your motherboard to cover up the CPU and 24-pin ATX connectors.
