Of curse it would be nice but I think this is not one of the hardest songs to play so you can basically hear what he is playing , but you are right it wouldn’t have hunted them.

Nick Barker was only a guest on two Dimmu albums for what I appreciate him because he is a great drummer :) but I'm also proud of Darek is a Pole and sat behind the drums in a band I like for a long time :) I greet you warmly :)
hard to say who is better between Daray and the mixing engineer. Not to stray away from the Meinl portion but this whole mix is incredibly well done. Big props to all for that matter.

Nick Barker era Dimmu was my favorite, but this guy is great, too. Hellhammer was pretty "meh," especially in the creativity realm. This Daray guy is a beast and has some nice touches.
My favorite era is the Tjodalv one, but yeah in terms of strictly drumming the Barker one was the best. His patterns and fills fit Dimmu the best. Hellhammer is arguably the most proficient and versatile they've had, but for some reason they never "clicked" togheter. Although there are some sick and underrated parts in both Stormblast and In Sorte Diaboli. Daray is excellent and very solid, but i fear he, and in a way HH too, is suffering in these comparison due to Dimmu's change in music over the years. For many they've been on a clear decline after Puritanical musically.
Tjodalv era was by far the best, but after his and Nick Barker departure Dimmu should have added Tony Laureano as its drummer. Hellhammer didnt quite fit into Dimmu's style, but let's not forget that Hellhammer was hired for Stormblast and ended up in the line up of In Sorte Diaboli, but basically had no voice regarding the production of Stormblast and In Sorte Diaboli. He once said in an interview that he did what asked him to.

well tbh I don't think it was Nick Barker that was that good.. it's just that the songs were much better when vortex and mustis was in the band. Sadly Daray hasnt got to play on a good album... you can only do so much

The whole drumset sounds like the heads were placed and finger tightened and the drum tech forgot to tune them xD. Only thing sounding good are the bass drums because they are triggered.
ThyArt yeah the kit sounds like a huge powerful deep low drum sound perfect for this style of music. Sounds good to me. I personally like my toms and snare tuned little higher around medium tension but this doesn’t sound bad by any means.

Antonio Brother I always struggle with above 140+ bpm double bass, same here. İts like my left foot doesnt go with same as my right foot. After 2-3 min my left foot slip away, like become numb. Hope drummers will get what I mean..

Tommy Bone Nick Barker told in an interview (or was it Vortex, not sure) that there became a tour bus syndrome between Nick Barker and Dimmu Borgir. He just couldn't work with them anymore after such a demanding work period of two albums and as a British drummer with a lot of other projects, Nick Barker had to pursue other demands as a drummer as well. After him came Hellhammer, who was an excellent replacement, but couldn't work with Dimmu for long because of Mayhem and Arcturus etc. projects + his spinal injury in 2007. There were session drummers like Tony Laureano for live stuff, but as Dimmu is as big band as it is, being a full-time investing member would be too demanding. Then they took Daray in, who is the least fitting drummer for the band, in my opinion. And Dimmu Borgir overall took a very bad turn to commercial metal anyway, replacing very essential things in their music with overwhelming simplistic solutions and laziness. I don't think they much care about artistic values anymore, so it doesn't make a difference who is bashing the stuff in behind the drum set.
However, I'd like to state that Dimmu Borgir did produce and release one of the best metal albums in the period of 1997-2005. They made 5 high quality albums in a row in a pretty short period of time considering their production value, high composing efforts, having excellent musicians and producers with them etc. so they don't have to produce anything better than those albums. Not many artists can make even 3-4 albums in 10 years and tour like crazy at the same time. So they were doing Dimmu Borgir very full time and probably was very demanding for them. That's why they probably chose to go easier path for the future and make the music more simple and easy to make it sound good live.
