He's right when he says it's not for the masses. They're "mainstream" only among black metal fans but if you let a non-metalhead listen to Dimmu Borgir they're probably gonna say it's "too heavy" "too dark" "it's just screams". Non-metalheads will never say that this kind of music is mainstream

    • @odarwinismo3953

What's funny is that Silenoz chose a really cool stage name for his personality and role in Dimmu, much deeper than 'same effect as the Satyrs'. He's always been the quiet mastermind behind the message in some sense. Silenoz (otherwise known as Silenus, or Silenos), was not just a Satyr, but the wise teacher and companion of the Greek god of Wine, Dionysus. Silenoz possessed the power of prophecy when intoxicated.

Saw them years ago touring with Hypocrisy, Nevermore, and Children of Bodom. They played at this little dive called the Showplace Theater in Buffalo NY. A small venue that seemed even smaller when Borgir took the stage. They barely had room to fit each band member on stage and they had to move the drums to the corner in order to make more room. Their production is kind of silly when you see it in a small club in the middle of Buffalo, the band members performing shoulder to shoulder, dicks to assholes but regardless it was a good show and a good time.

I think the scariest dude on stage was the older man. Look at his eyes.. like those of a sociopath.. a lot more scary than the band members.

I wish I could find that video about two guys....one into Norwegian folk music, the other older man totally into Dimmu Borgir. They were having a mild debate.

No, it means dim burger. You can get a hamburger at MD and just dim the lights while eating it.

Opeth is great! If you listen to them you can listen to all of Dimmu Borgir songs! For the beggining try the famous ones: Progenies of the Apocalypse, Spellbound, Mourning Palace, Puritania, Kings of the Carnaval Creation, The promise Future Aeons, The serpentine Offering, Burn in Hell, even Metal Heart or March of Mephisto from kamelot featuring Shagrath! If you listen to these you will get accustomed with Dimmu style!!! Be welcomed as a Dimmu Borgir fan!
    Greetings!!!

I'm norwegian, but I very rarely listens to black metal. I listen to more kind versions of metal like Metallica and Nightwish. But it's true what they say, they incorporate a lot of styles into their music. So even I like a few of their songs.
I also like how "down to earth" they are. Like The Kovenant too. So when they are interviewed, you can see these are reasonable people, who just happens to like extreme forms of music.

Someone please tell me who that guy is?

he means their own. local medias have a habit of going all "WOO! OUR POP GUY TOURS US!" when the reality might indeed be sold out gigs, but its the three figure tier venues.
our yellow press is notorious of that, but i think its a bit universal here (greetings from finland)

Yeah. I think the guys in the band showed they were much nicer than the hosts of the show, and handled themselves quite well. Especially the singer. He was very laid back.. not the kind of behaviour I expect from the singer of an extreme metal band.

actually it means Dark Cities. Dimmu means Dark and Borgir means Cities. I'm Icelandic, so I would know...They slightly bent the meaning of the word Borgir, but the word Borgir is drawn from Old norse word Borg, whitch actually means castle. But in the old times, when cities were in castles, the word was really for both city and castle. Soit kind of means both. Icelandic is the only country in Europe that holds the old Norse language, with slightly bent words.
