I only just saw this video. I loved the breakdown! Btw, you can additionally install Touch-Latches to your island cabinets. It's a latch that you push in 2 mm and it releases the cabinet door open so no need for external knobs!
solution for you: For the cabinets on the island, you get matching knobs and put them higher than knee level (very top corner). that's what we did for my parents kitchen. we have wide pull bars everywhere except we put T shaped knobs on the island cabinets in the same color.
I designed and installed my Ikea kitchen myself with their designing program in 2012 and sold the house in 2019. I had a lot of cabinets, used theirs countertops, including butcher block from real wood. It cost me under four thousands, with their 20% discount sale. I loved it and everyone who saw it loved it too. The only thing about it that I didnt care much was that their drawers were rounded up in the corners using quite a bit of space. I think since then they've change somewhat from the look of your drawers. Otherwise would recommend to do it, especially if you want to save and do it yourself. Assembly is very easy and fast. Right now I am in the process of planning the new house build and really considering to get Ikea cabinets even though that I dont have Ikea in my state :( Thank you for sharing your story.
I love IKEA and within the next 12 months I plan on doing this. Thank you and your voice was soothing made it easy to listen to the entire presentation.
I used Ikea kitchen cabinets to make home office cabinets 12 years ago. I used upper cabinets for both lower and upper with a wood counter to create a wall of cabinets. They're as good as the day I installed them. Not as challenging an environment as a kitchen but based on my personal experience, I'd have no concern about using them.
I put in a ikea kitchen in the late nineties, it is atill as new and I had 2 very active boys at the time. I moved recently and put in huge cabinets and also drawers in the laundryroom, looks and works great in the laundryroom too.
Kitchen looks amazing!! Love the vent it’s so pretty. You can definitely install upper doorknobs on the front side of the island. We just remodeled our kitchen as well and we put in a huge island with cabinets on both side. Just put knobs at the top of the cabinet doors and you won’t see them and it will be easier to open!
Ikea kitchens are the best! My husband installed them himself in two houses and they clean up so easy! Also so many choices in drawer sizes! We spent less than 5 grand for both of them. If you install yourself you save tons of money
Oh this was so helpful. We are building a new home and have been debating about going with the builder kitchen upgrades (tremendously expensive!) or installing IKEA once the house is built. I feel more confident now about moving forward with IKEA. Thank you!
I am happy with my ikea sektion kitchen. Yet, I need to let u guys know that if they discontinue the cabinet doors and u hv a damaged door that needs replacing, even with the 25 yr warranty, they r unable to honor the warranty. I have laxarby cabinet doors. They discontinued the product 1yr after I purchased them. They did managed to source and get me 2 doors to replace the damaged cabinet doors but after few more months I had peeling paint on the profile edge of corner cabinet doors (i assume may hv been due to sitting water on the profile edge). But they wrote to me saying it is "normal" wear and tear and they can't do anything about it. Had i known they discontinue products that fast, I could hv bought additional doors where I expected the most issues may come upon. So keep in mind the discontinue of their products. Also back then I designed the kitchen mixing different door styles weren't all that popular. But I now wish I did my bottom cabinets to be slab style instead of an edge profile. On a slab door the water will not sit unlike on a profiled edge door.so if u r designing pl be a ware of these cons too. I cook a whole lot. 4 people in my household. The rest of the kitchen has held up really well. I designed and installed my kitchen. Fyi, The closest Ikea for me is a 5hr drive.
You can add the push openers to the cupboard on the back of the island. I did the same thing. The push openers are super cheap and easy to install. I actually used push openers on all of my doored cabinets and only put handles on my drawers.
With you cabinets under you're bench, change to the little push locks. I don't know if that's what they are called. But it simply allows you to push on the door and they open. Super easy. That's what we have.
My husband and I have been planning to renovate our kitchen. We've been debating whether we should get it through Ikea or not. Watching this video helps us quite a lot with our decision making. Thank you for sharing.
Such a lovely and functional kitchen, would love to see a kitchen org tour. For you cabinets on the island, the back side one, you can try to add in Ikea's push and open options, they can be added on top of your cabinets and hardly cost anything, given the amount of efforts you need to put in to open the doors
Hey there! Just install the push closures for the island cabinets where you sit... you push the door and it pushes open... or do little knobs/pulls on the top corners to pull open. It won’t be in the way of the feet ;)
Small suggestion. Why don’t you use the push pop out for your island cabinets. You push the cabinet door and it pops open😊 I love your kitchen, I think I’ll do an ikea kitchen myself! Thanks for sharing your knowledge
For the door without handles they have a mechanism that allows you to open the door by pushing it in and getting it kicked open by the mechanism. Also now they have neat doors with build in handles
Your kitchen is beautifu!, have you considered the same horizontal pulls you have on your drawers at the top of the island cabinets, they would not be touching anyone and still aesthetically pleasing.
On the island cabinets put knobs at on the doors at the hight wear it doesn't effect the legs. Get someone sit at the bar to find the perfect hight for the knobs so it doesn't hit your knee that should help to open your cabinet doors. I enjoy your video thanks.
on island table (05:00) you can install handles or push/click door opener option at top edge of door or just below countertop (hidden and not affected by someone using chairs)
I saw that others were recommending the push open mechanism for cabinets without handles. Another option would be flush mount door pulls. You would have to have the doors mitered to accommodate the depth of the flush mount pulls but the look and function are great there are many different styles. Before wireless devices, I constantly ruined earbuds by getting the cord caught on a cabinet pull, or worse, catching my pocket on a handle and ripping my pants. They were more expensive and the installation was much more involved but the results provided the function and the look I wanted. Well worth it in my opinion.
Loved your Ikea Kitchen cabinets review! We are meeting with kitchen designer this week and will definitely keep you thoughts in mind. Wonder if you can have "touch to open" catches installed on the cabinets that face your island seating since Ikea cabinet box fittings are standard. Yours should be able to accommodate. Your vent hood is a work of art! Just gorgeous!
Your kitchen is beautiful! Would you mind sharing if there were other costs like electrical or plumbing upgrades that were needed please. Did you demo the kitchen yourselves or pay an outside service to do it? Where did you get your beautiful counter tops? I am trying to research approximate costs remodeling my kitchen. Thank you for making this video, it is very haelpful. Stay safe.
A 2:06, it pops up on the screen saying they demo the kitchen themselves. It actually looks like they just renovated it as it looks exactly like it did before, but with new appliances, cabinets and such. The only thing I'm not sure about is the double oven. She doesn't show that side of the kitchen with before photos.
sorry, feel like I’m commenting on all your vids. I really think as Americans we get weirdly snobby, yet so many are in heavy debt (I might know about that, I was likely one of those people for a lot of my life ha). Ikea kitchens and cabinetry are a norm in a lot of European homes and American homes. Quality is fine. Love your step by step of what the process was like. Beautiful kitchen.
Nice looking kitchen! I'm not a big fan of spices in drawers, however. That seems difficult to ogranize and keep neat. For people that like them hidden, I prefer to use the spice racks that are either built into the back or added on to the back of one of the cabinet doors. In my kitchen, I simply have the fance McCormick glass jars in a rack stained to match the rest of my woodwork.
Your kitchen is lovely and I'm so glad you had a good experience with IKEA. My hesitancy in going with IKEA is only that they are so far away from where I live and also that I live in a turn of the century home and we want to avoid any disharmony with our craftsman/farmhouse architecture.
Kitchen looks great. Never thought to go with IKEA. With regards to the under counter cabinets. I have similar set up. I have knobs at the top of the doors. They don’t bang the knees. Then again, my husband and I are on the short side.
Your kitchen looks beautiful. I love the backsplash. I’m surprised you did not select a counter depth refrigerator though. We renovated our kitchen this past June using off white bodbyn ikea cabinets and bodbyn grey island. The bodbyn doors are painted and not foil wrapped like many other ikea doors. I love my kitchen. I too would highly recommend ikea kitchens.
Beautiful kitchen!!! We have a gray and off white Bodbyn kitchen with cabinets hidden on both sides of our island that I wanted to blend in with no visible knobs to the side panels that flank each door. We added a flat door pull that is mounted to the top of the doors hidden from eyesight by the countertop, but makes the cabinet accessible without an effort. No special installation or adaptations needed, just screwed directly to the top. Less than 2 minute installation. I don’t think the fee to have the cabinets built and installed is a bad option. I just wanted to use that money to fund other projects in our renos.
You can add a push open system for your cabinets that are in front of those chairs...I am sure ikea has those. Happy ro send you a photo of what I have if you like
Really pretty. We are going to go w/Ikea cabinet boxes, but purchasing the cabinet fronts from Semihandmade. As far as the double oven goes, it was put up too high. Probably due to ordering a cabinet that was taller than what was needed. An oversight possibly.
We have corner windows with a sink in that area. I’m curious how the inside of the cabinet looks. I’m not sure how we will deal with this. Thank you for any help! Your kitchen looks lovely
I think a built in 24” drawer microwave installed at waist level would have been a better alternative. You could have placed it at a different location so not to interfere with your oven especially during holiday dinners when there’s 3 cooks in the kitchen. The convenience of the pull out drawer makes placing and taking items out of the microwave a breeze. Of course being at waist level you have to make sure the microwave has a child proof lock option. Other then that flaw I think IKEA knocked it out of the park. Also have you thought of putting leather pulls on your island cabinets? They are super soft and don’t have to worry about knee injuries.
Hi. Just watched your IKEA kitchen video, beautiful. We remodeled our kitchen at the end of last year and always had door placed on both side of our island. There’s lashes that are available to install not IKEA but I’m sure you can get. They lay flat on top and you just pull open the door. It’s not an eyesore either. You can’t see it unless you look for it. Should you like to see them let me know. I have pictures of them but I don’t know how to upload and share with you.
Trying to figure the cabinets out and all those accessories is daunting. Good luck getting an appointment or help ...... especially when there’s no ikea in your town. I tried and gave up and bought Cabico
I think the $8K is only for the IKEA cabinets, lighting and appliances (see min 6:55). The installation is done through Traemand (contractor). If you see her receipt it cost $4,259.75 for installation (see min 6:26). Overall, it's a reasonable price for cabinets. I also have the Sektion Ikea cabinets in off-white and I love them. We paid about $4500 for a 10'x10' kitchen and a 5ft island. We bought our cabinets during a 20% discount promotion that IKEA was having. We bought ours in 2017. My husband and I decided to assemble the cabinets to save money and buy the counter top. After trying to figure out how to build the first cabinet, the rest were easy. The problem we encountered was leveling the base cabinets because our floors were not leveled. Our kitchen was chaos for 2 months because we had to wait to get the countertops installed. It was worth the wait. I love how easy they are to clean especially with having kids getting everything dirty. I also recommend the IKEA cabinets 👍
I would think you could put a small knob up high on the doors on your island. They wouldn't have to match your other hardware if they are tucked high up under the counter top. They wouldn't even be visible.
Hello, thank you for sharing your experience. We installed finger pulls on our island cabinets for the exact reason you mentioned, we didn’t want people hitting their knees with regular cabinet pulls. We bought off of Wayfair. Look up finger pulls, they are easy to install and makes it easy to open the cabinets.
Thank you so much for sharing. I just made a appt with ikea. I'm so excited to remodel my kitchen. A few people have told me they're not good. I just love how they're so many options and I love the drawers.
Ikea kitchens are amazing for their quality and affordability, and you made some beautiful choices in yours. Why didn't you use Ikea for the counter tops?
Thank you for the review! I’m looking at an IKEA kitchen too but have had the hardest time finding anyone with a corner sink to look at, so I was very excited to find a sink and pantry just like my kitchen! Do you know what size unit was used and what size your sink is? They said I’d have to build it out, did you IKEA contractor do that part for you? Everything is a little more confusing now because they don’t have in person help with shutdowns. I had almost given up hope in figuring it out, but yours looks so great! I also love the idea of your focal wall ❤️
If you have any questions about the process, leave me a comment! I would love to try to help you in anyway I can! 😊
A Charming Abode love it
Hi I am wondering where you you purchased your vent hood? So pretty!
I was also wondering where you got the hood from it is absolutely beautiful !!!
Hi! Thank you for this informative video! I was wondering what style IKEA cabinets you chose for your kitchen & where did you get your backsplash?
I only just saw this video. I loved the breakdown! Btw, you can additionally install Touch-Latches to your island cabinets. It's a latch that you push in 2 mm and it releases the cabinet door open so no need for external knobs!
I am an ikea kitchen designer and you can add the push openers to your island cabinets and so then you just push on them and they open right up!
I'm not a designer and that's exactly what I said when I saw that part of the video
knobs would work too
Can you maybe tell me what corner cabinet that is to put that large farm sink ?
That’s what my first thought was. It’s a really simple and invisible design that’s been around for years.
@@esgee2464 it’s not a special corner cabinet, it’s just a regular cabinet set at an angle.
We have the same cabinets, for 4 years now, and they have been great. Solid build and easy to keep clean.
How many kids do you guys have? I wonder if it holds up to a large family. Thx
You can fix the island cabinet problem installing push-and-open devices. IKEA sells them so you would only need to push
solution for you: For the cabinets on the island, you get matching knobs and put them higher than knee level (very top corner). that's what we did for my parents kitchen. we have wide pull bars everywhere except we put T shaped knobs on the island cabinets in the same color.
Would you be able to add a “click to open” type system where to tap on the cabinet and it’ll pop open?
@@elicsu2094 Ikea also has the push to open things you can buy.
That is what I was thinking too, small knobs in the top corner.

Covid has made it near impossible to buy a kitchen from IKEA
For the doors on the island, you put push openers. Push to close, push again to open.
The vent hood color contrast with your cabinetry is spot on! My very favorite feature is you corner sink and windows❣️

What a gorgeous kitchen and wonderful video explaining everything! I’m convinced that IKEA is the way to go now :)
you should put little leather pulls on those island cabinets to solve your issues

For the back of the island, you can put in push-close cabinets. They pop open when you push them. You can install those in the lower corners.

For the island, you need to change the hinge to the push to open one, so no need any handle. Ikea has that type.

@@anaascencio158 no, it was for the installation too.
Gorgeous kitchen..Have a wonderful and Blessed weekend beautiful Leslie.
Thank you so much Blanca! ☺️
I would think you could put a small knob up high on the doors on your island. They wouldn't have to match your other hardware if they are tucked high up under the counter top. They wouldn't even be visible.
5:17 You shouldve gotten those pre-spring loaded openers. you push them and it pops the cabinet open
Magnetic push latch for the island cabinets, you can buy them at the hardware store
Great video! Super detailed and well explained.
This was really helpful and I will go to IKEA to sit with a designer. I was not aware of the 25 year warranty!
You should put leather straps on as handles for the cabinets on the island
It looks fabulous. What is the square footage of your kitchen?
Thank you for the review! I’m looking at an IKEA kitchen too but have had the hardest time finding anyone with a corner sink to look at, so I was very excited to find a sink and pantry just like my kitchen! Do you know what size unit was used and what size your sink is? They said I’d have to build it out, did you IKEA contractor do that part for you? Everything is a little more confusing now because they don’t have in person help with shutdowns. I had almost given up hope in figuring it out, but yours looks so great! I also love the idea of your focal wall ❤️
Back side of the island: look into finger pull “knobs” if there is a large enough gap on top of the doors.
Leslie, you would make a great host on QVC!
We've had some since 1997 with no issues.
You could put little knob handles at the top of the door underneath the countertop then you would be able to open the doors with ease
Lovely kitchen and I love those cabinets.
