You can also check for voltage potential at your various wiring stages. If the system is running in 2nd stage, you should be getting 24V at your Y2 terminal on the board. You won't have to disconnect any wires, essentially saving you an unnecessary step.
thanks for sharing. So you place the clamp meter on one the line voltage coming from the disconnect box? Could it also work, if I place it on the common wire coming from the compressor?

Amazing! This is exactly the info I was looking for!
Question?
Do the pressures read the same whether in First stage or Full capacity ? Many Thanks Great video Not to many about 2 stage compressors.
The stage doesn't affect system pressures; it only affects your indoor & outdoor motor speeds, along with your compressor's pumping capacity.
You guys are awesome, thanks.
Does the compressor fan (outside) run faster in stage 2? Mine only seems to have one speed.
Thank you!

Duh..
My HVAC contractor said that, my TRANE 4TTX8036A1000AA XL-18i is not 2 stage, he said for two-stage you have to have 2 compressors. Is he correct?
Or one compressor
