Yup! I was sure I was the next big thing!! 😆😆😆 High, high hopes!! Thank you, Sandy.
I remember these drawing ads, especially Winky. I don’t remember the mystery grids though. I love it when restaurants had sheets to color an image or draw one and they would hang it up on a wall. The winner would get a free desert of some kind. I love your drawing of your sweet pups.
Those were my fav art as a child. Thanks for going down memory lane
This is an ah ha moment for me! I look at projects and get overwhelmed at where to start so I don't. I get intimidated by the total process because I don't know where to begin. I love the image of the Jack Russell it looks just like my son's beagle, Shiloh!
I remember those course things …I never sent in but I did do the sketch’s for fun …. I love the grid method of drawing with the post it notes … I also absolutely love your Gotcha Day drawing … Happy Gotcha Day to your pups ❤️❤️
I remember those ads for “art scholarships” and my friends and I all drew the pictures! Fun times!
Wow, you opened up a memory box in my head! I remember something similar and I remembered suddenly I won a prize with a drawing made with stencils. The stencils were free with 'blue band' margarine, maybe one of the first English named brands here in the Netherlands. This was long before 1972, maybe 1963. Thanks for bringing that memory back, only won 1 time after that again!
My husband bought the Famous Artists Course books in about 1962. We had them until about 1990. Wish we still did.
Oh, I loved this! This reminded me of a portrait class I took using the book
“ Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain”. I still try to only concentrate on lines, value, and shapes only. It helps get your preconceived ideas get out of the way. Thank you so much! I never saw puzzle pictures growing up. I wish I had because I went to such a small school that really never had art and I loved to draw as a kid( and an adult still). Thank you for making your art so accessible!
I remember drawing winky back in the 70’s and taking the class they offered through the mail. Thanks for the memories Sandy. 😊
You are so welcome
What fun. I hadn't thought about those drawing challenges in a LONG time. Several of my old puzzle books have the mystery boxes. One is called Skill-O Gram. LOVE your critter paintings!
Lol… I drew winky… and won, a gentleman came from Minnesota. so much for winning. I signed up for the course took it for about five months and couldn’t afford it. This brings back a lot of memories. I actually still have some of the course in my garage. 50 years later!🤪Thanks for the memories Sandy! You’re awesome and thank you for sharing🤍
Id love to see photos of what I missed back then if you find them... apparently my work didn't warrant even sending a brochure to ask for $🤣
I drew Winky in about ‘68 or ‘69. They also came in the mail on a blue flyer. That was the one I had, and for some dreadful reason, my mom never sent it in!! I’m so happy she didn’t, because she put it in my baby book and I still enjoy looking at my first “competitive art entry” today❤❤😂 Mom made the right choice. My Winky is a Winky only a mother could love. She did & now I do; I’ve got him hanging in my studio❤
Awwwww!!!!!
@@SandyAllnock1 we were raised well. Absolutely wonderful video!!
I remember both the drawing contests and the grids. LOVED them both! Thanks for the stroll down memory lane, Sandy!
You are so welcome!
I remember drawing Winky!! I did the Pirate for the Art Institute. Lol!
I can't believe it's been that long since these pups came into your life! I remember like it was yesterday!
I know!! They're still my babies, no matter the grey that's starting to show up....
Somewhere a few years I found the Famous Artists books online as PDFs. They are pretty good teaching tools!
Love these. Am a dog person too. Sent in a drawing when in high school from a match book and a guy actually showed up! Of course it was to sell art classes not a scholarship 😂
Yes I remember this.
I remember 🙋🏽♀️
OMG, never seen a puzzle like that, looks like fun
Go download and give it a try😀
I loved drawing those pictures from the ads but by the time I was old enough to draw them, the ads were many years old.
Did you know they still make puzzle books that have those mystery drawing grids in them? If you flip through the word search/crossword puzzle type books that have a variety of puzzles in them, you’ll often find them in those books!!
Good things never go out of style! I'm.going on a trip, I think I'll pick up as puzzle book for the flight😀
I did that too❤
I don't remember mystery grids but I did try Winky. They didn't write back to me either. lol
Hello from British Columbia Canada
I remember the pirate the deer seems familiar didnt do the copying ...probably wouldn't have been allowed to have a stamp. Popsicle 6 cents
I drew the pirate, I charcoals was fun.
Haha… i also (as a kid) practiced drawing with those ads.
I wonder how many of us did😀👍🏻
@@SandyAllnock1😂😂😂
Me too!
I drew the pirate, and to this day I have no idea why. Winky was so much cuter.
I think I drew him becuasevit seemed more grownup to draw a cute animal?
I filled that coupon out and sent in my drawing and then had a salesman come to my home. My Dad and I had a long conversation after the guy left , lol! Embarrassing to say the least
In person?!?!?!
