I absolutely love club fitting videos Gaz and this one doesn’t disappoint mate, awesome facility and an awesome club fitter, thank you so much for filming these for us
This is a really interesting point raised. It’s all very well seeing all these new driver reviews and we pick a stealth over a Paradym because it might go 5 yards further - so much better off going to one specialist and getting properly fitted - normally the Ping shows up as being a little bit shorter but, probably not if you get 5he right head / shaft combination
Man, this video was pure gold. Why wouldn’t anyone take the time to be properly fitted. Wish we had access to this fitting facility in our area. I’ve played golf for over 50 years and I know my Ping driver is not optimally set for me. 40 years ago, I was hitting my drives almost 90 yards further (balata balls, persimmon driver with steel shaft at 43 1/2’’ long) 🤷♂️. Even though I still hitting decent at 63 years old, I know, I need a fitting. Thanks for this video and pointing out this fact. 👍 Cheers from Canada. 🇨🇦
Thanks Gerry. I hope fittings become more reasonably priced and accessible in Canada in the future! If you’re ever coming over to the UK, get in contact, and we help arrange a fitting for you 👍🏼
I went through the same process with the G430 heads Gaz, (my driver speed is usually 107-109) and it was an expensive day for me too lol. Walked out with an LST head on a Mitsubishi Kai'Li white 60g stiff shaft. Almost $1k CAD all said and done, but worth every penny mate.
A little spooky! I was away testing drivers last week, hadn’t seen the Tour Black shaft either and ended up loving the G430 LST, same loft, shaft & flex as you! Then saw this today! Cheerio TS3 hello LST next week!
Great Video Gaz. Always wanted to gl to Ping for a fitting. Just a small comment on the audio of the video, can you maybe think about the placement of your Mike as your breathing comes across quite loud.
Hey Rob, I will of course have more fittings in the future. Only my irons had been fitted, so I was sold on the Ping driver as I saw such an improvement on my launch and ball flight. When I’ve got the opportunity, I will get fitted for other brands so we can see their process and make an opinion about which service is the best and of course, which product. I did specifically want a ping driver, and I’ll explain the reason why when I do my first playing vlog with it 👌🏼 thanks for watching 👌🏼
Thanks Garry, looking forward to the other brands processes. It just gives us an incite to how they fit and also it gives us an idea of who we'd like to go to for a fitting
Now that you have a fitted Ping G430 it becomes your benchmark. When you do any other driver tests please always hit a few shots with the G430 so there is a real comparison on the day between your benchmark G430 and "test driver". That way you can see the gains and losses. Otherwise, it just becomes another stand alone test.
Great video-really enjoyed it. It would be interesting to see what your current TSi3 driver with more loft via the hosel would do. Also, a TSR 2 11 degree (std) driver head with the Hzardous Black 6.0 shaft would be interesting.
Fantastic fitting. One thing I would prefer though, is if a golf ball agnostic brand like Ping, had a range of balls and then tweak this fitting even further. For example, he could have still done with 200/300 rpm lower. That's where a ball like the Srixon diamond or Left dash would be helpful, just to get those marginal gains. I appreciate he would then have to move to hitting in a net possibly.
@Gary You should try a red profile shaft. The softer tip should give you a bit more launch. The HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX 60 in 6.0 or 6.5 is a stock shaft for Ping.
He’s used to loft to help launch and the shaft to control spin. I think if I’d had gone with an rdx red, I wouldn’t have needed as much loft, but I’d of created more back spin. It would of worked if my backspin had been too low, but that needed to be lowered. Thanks
@@garymartingolf Understood. Give it a try if you get a chance. As you showed in your video, not everything is as it's expected. While you would assume what you said about a red profile shaft is true, it may not be the case for you. It's all about how the shaft affects the delivery of the head. With your negative angle of attack it may not necessarily increase the spin. Give it a try. Nothing to loose except maybe 10 minutes of your time. 🙂
Nice video Gaz, when you say self fitted do you mean just took clubs out on the course and saw what you liked or was you using launch monitor data? personally from that fit I wouldn't buy a new driver, If your going to work on technique and hit up on driver then very soon that driver is going to be out if date for you. Work on driver delivery as you are leaving many yards on the table.
If I practiced and played a lot, I’d completely agree, and that goes for anybody else striving to improve their technique. I’ll answer more on this in a vlog because it’s a very good talking point. 👍🏼
Hi Gaz, just watching your fitting for driver and is the ball towards middle of your stance? Looks nowhere near inside of left heel. Just an observation not having a go 😀
Gary it just goes to show you why you go and get fitted for clubs, because the unexpected happens that you would never would have tried, alters your mind and posture on what you think is best for you.
I was listening to the fitter's voice, trying to remember where I had heard it before. Suddenly the penny dropped -- it's Alan Partridge, moonlighting from his radio job! 🤣
First Steve Johnston now Gary Martin both get fitted into a 12° driver after both fitting themselves into sub 10° drivers pride is a terrible restrictive thing
In his case, I would imagine he likes a strong ball flight being from Scotland 🏴 I’ve personally just always tried to focus more on trying to hit up on the ball instead of just swinging natural and letting the club do the work.
I also had a fitting in December. Pro had me in a stiff shaft ( always been Reg) and Mizuno STx225 at 12degs. It’s transformed my driving , so consistent now
Something is not right with the data. My swing speed is 95mph and I carry 250. You are at 109 and carry virtually the same? That original driver was so ill fitted to you. Crazy what fitting can do.
I absolutely love club fitting videos Gaz and this one doesn’t disappoint mate, awesome facility and an awesome club fitter, thank you so much for filming these for us
I have really enjoyed watching these club fitting videos Gary. Thank you for sharing, it’s a real eye opener for anyone thinking about upgrading.
Looks like you're going to give me a game this year, good fitting 😎
I’m ready now 😬
Nice one Gary. 👍
Thanks Paul
Really enjoyed that, very interesting to see how altering specs can make such a difference
World is full of people using 9°drivers with xstiff shafts who should be using a 12° head with a regular shaft 😂
Fascinating! Massive difference. What driver are you turning up with, tomorrow?? Ha ha.
Ping!!
Good ball speed. I’m surprised you aren’t carrying 280 in this video.

I would of never bought that spec in a million years! I now know it’s down to me now 😄
@@garymartingolf it always is Gary 😂😂
Nice one Gaz. Hope the new driver works out for you
Thanks Davy 👌🏼🔥
Yah great, make sure fitters are measuring the same club data when comparing changes in the club

did you end up in 9.0 or 10.5 head
I ended up with the 430max on the kali x flex but only swing 102-105. Barely miss a fairway with it, it's so stable

Haha 😂 Well I must say, I’ve gained some Confidence off the tee since receiving the club. 🔥 thanks
Great fitting could see you were shocked with the extra loft
Wasn’t expecting that 👀

Yeah, I did notice it. It was that round neck top, I couldn’t put it as low as normal 😅
Great vid - almost inspired me to go for a fitting. You’d have been mad not to buy that set up - it worked for you!
Hope you try other brand drivers and go for fittings. Would like to see them.
Would love to see a pxg driver fitting with how adjustable they are

Steel preferred of plastic preffered, no wood.
@@garymartingolf has to be steel as plastic can’t take too much wrist set…
I just bought a driver off the shelf thinking I knew what I needed. Guess what...I really needed a fitting...
Nobody can judge. We’ve all done it. I’m sure if you get on a launch monitor, you could optimise loft to help.
Gaz I remember 4-5 yrs ago you used to hit your 3 wood past Robo's driver. What do you think changed your launch angle?
Like I've said before your shoulder tilt is too level. Prevents driving your right shoulder low to hit up on the ball!
got the LST 430 ❤ it
Yea!
Why was the spin rate so high when you were delivering low loft ?

Hi Gaz, just watching your fitting for driver and is the ball towards middle of your stance? Looks nowhere near inside of left heel. Just an observation not having a go 😀
Just upto the 11.5° driver. Is that potentially not hitting up on the ball if it's not on your inside heel?

Perhaps you need to start hitting up on the ball, spin will drop at least 500-700

The loft was too low, so the ball wasn’t travelling very far through the air. Cheers bud
And then get a new club that works few months later 😂
True!

Not to get off topic, but have you filmed the budget club challenge with James Robinson yet?

I can’t bloody catch-up him! You’ll have more chance of doing a video with him atm 😅He’s in the US 😀
It costs ping in between $70-$100 Cdn to build the G430 driver. It sells in $810. I can’t believe people are buying this over priced club
Is there any driver you’d like me to test / try ?
