    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  Месяц назад +1

      Hi my friend. Yea, there is a temp sensor to detect the overheating, if EPS motor is overheating, its duty will be limited to 40 percent until it gets back to normal temperature.

    In an older car with EPS in which the control module does not show up on a scan tool, how can a calibration be performed? Are there self calibrating units? All other control units show up except for EPS and even the FSM does not mention about EPS except for hydraulic PS. P/N is 28500 AN000. Excellent video, thanks.

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  14 дней назад +1

      Hi my friend. Generally when there is EPS system, we should have it one scan tool too. Sometimes you don’t see the calibration (as it used to be a manual calibration on some early versions) but you must be able to read the codes and live data. If you can see the EPS assembly but there is nothing on the scanner, there could be two cases, either your scanner doesn’t cover the software correctly, or EPS is aftermarket and someone had it installed. If car is too old (like the very early versions on EPS) there is a chance that calibration can be done using ABS system.

    Great video. Just wondering how does the steering wheel turn when the power off? Because you can't transmit that turning motion back to the motor due to the screw gear. Is there some sort of slip clutch between the screw gear and the steering column? Thanks.

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  14 дней назад +1

      Hi my friend. mechanical steering will be still available. On the steering column (inside the torque sensor) there is a torsion bar which gets twisted when you turn the steering wheel (only less than 10 degrees), by this rotation, torque sensor detects the torque and direction, and EPS will assist. If torsion bar gets twisted but EPS does not assist, after that steering shaft keeps rotating and mechanical connection will rotate the steering pinion.

    • @jix177
      @jix177 14 дней назад

      @@AutomotiveDiagnosis Ok, so that means the steering shaft is able to rotate even if the EPS motor does not rotate. I'm just wondering how they can disconnect when they need to. Thanks for responding.

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  8 дней назад +1

      Hi there, you can’t find the part in the part shops but you can install a good known torque sensor from another EPS assembly that was replaced for other problems. For example if there is any EPS with EPS motor problem, you can use its torque sensor, but EPS must be exactly same number.

  • @MarzNet256
    @MarzNet256 Месяц назад

    Cool. I would imagine the motor changing direction would be by reversing the current. However, I noticed on the scan tool that the current did not change sign with the direction like the torque sensor. Is it just showing the absolute value? Is the motor changing direction while current is not?

    • @SunshinesElectropedia
      @SunshinesElectropedia Месяц назад +1

      Current value is absolute value. If it is a brush motor the direction is changed by H bridge controller(4 mosfet) via programming. If it is brushless motor, then direction is changed by switching the inverter circuit (6 mosfet) according to hall sensor value via programming.

    • @SunshinesElectropedia
      @SunshinesElectropedia Месяц назад

      Its all about programmjng. Torque value is calculated without |abs| value because to know the direction of turn. Suppose torque value is 2Nm. There is a lookup table. For 2 Nm suppose target current is 16A. Here current value is caluculated abs(current) so that PID controller can reach the current in any direction. In PID controller the target value is positive. Here current is the target which means how much power the motor will give.

    • @SunshinesElectropedia
      @SunshinesElectropedia Месяц назад

      At high vehicle speed, minimum assist required. At low vehicle speed max motor power is required. Its programmed like that. If driver apply too much effort torque sensor detect it and produces high motor power.

      i am a 67 year old tech and the only cars that i can remember seeing without steering is back when i was in cub scouts and we raced pine wood derby cars - they had no steering. - before that, when i was 5 years old my dad had a little nitro powered model car, it was to be tethered to a spike in the ground with metal cables, you started the engine and let it go, it ran in circles until it ran out of fuel - it had NO steering !

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis

      Hi my friend, if brake fluid is not reaching to two wheels it could be from the relevant valves inside the ABS module. I don’t recommend to bypass the ABS, the best thing is to replace the ABS module if faulty

      @@wakeupvamsi5950 My condolences to you my friend. Have you or your mechanic checked the master cylinder? I'm asking because you said two wheel are not braking. Master cylinder provides two hydraulic pressure through two brake lines which both go to the ABS module. Each of those two brake lines provides fluid for two wheel (which happens through the ABS module). Also inside the ABS module there are two pistons (primary and secondary pistons) if any of them fails, hydraulic pressure from that piston will stop, causing no brake in two wheels.

      Some units have a rotary encoder, but they all have a torque sensor that measures the twist of the shaft as force is applied when the wheel is turned.

      Yes, bcoz this is rotary encoder. EPS module calculate speed and rotation angle same time.
