Revelations was never intended as a religious text in the first place, but the council of nicaea wanted a good bloody cataclism to cap things off, and this coded letter about ancient roman politics was just sitting there all ready and scary. Ehh sorta. Prophecy in dreams tend to be symbolic. The bible interprets the bible, you can compare the beasts, horns, the lamb, etc to elsewhere it is referenced and find that beasts are nations. THE beast with many heads and horns is either a nation with multiple leaders or potentially the same nation throughout time (Bablyon for instance).
Imagine your perspective suddenly becomes timeless and completely accurate. It would be bewildering.

The problem with that theory is that someone can claim this about practically anything to reinterprete whatever one wants.
"It says x, but it's really a code for y".
I have seen the theories but often they're taking a few lines and ignoring the context or consequence, namely events that are prophesized to occur but didn't under Nero.
I think most in general miss 1 John 2:18
Children, it is the last hour. And as you have heard, “Antichrist is coming,” even now many antichrists have come. We know from this that it is the last hour
There are multiple antichrists. People in the likeness of the antichrist or people in general opposed to Christ. Nero was a "type" that is a person fitting the theme of antichrist, often themes, people, events repeat throughout history.

Nina Paley's work dazzles me for a multitude of reasons, but the highest high point for me is the jaw-dropping economy with which she packs so much symbolic meaning into her biblical iconography. "A picture is worth a thousand words" is just a nice-sounding bit of bullshit when an able writer contemplates a mediocre picture. . . but Paley is exceptional, and can fill your head with multiple overlapping meanings in just a few deft strokes. She is the picture-making equivalent of a great writer, and "a thousand words" are simply not nearly enough to exhaust what we might meaningfully observe in one of her pictures.
As a sometimes-noted writer, I'm so fucking jealous. That bitch!

I know that Nina does not believe in these stories, but I don't get why some people find her stuff "offensive", She never really attacked their beliefs or them for believing in their stuff, she only used their myths to express herself and make genuinelly interesting art.
I mean, I am a Shakta/hinduist and I found no offense in Sita sing the blues, it was her personal interpretation of the tale of Rama and Sita and she is allowed to do that.
My parents are christians and they found her animations of the exodus entertaining, even tho Seder masochism was an open criticism of the role of women in the various abrahimic faiths.

I’ve seen people commenting on the perverseness of the singers’s glee. Some people have responded with “well, they don’t think it will happen to them”.
It goes a little deeper than that. These singers are probably Protestants, but this issue of how one should feel about God’s wrath reverberates throughout Christianity. A key point in Dante’s Inferno is that Dante initially grieves for those in Hell and the extremity of their punishment. Later, Dante concludes that those in Hell deserve their torture, that everything God does is worthy of praise, and that to *not* rejoice would be to question God’s impeccable judgement.
Compare this to, say, the Westboro Baptist Church and their claims that they rejoice in God’s wrath against soldiers, homosexuals, etc. It’s about suppressing whatever ethical inhibitions you may have because those challenge God’s authority.
