A lot of E90 owners are shocked to find out that their rear seats don't fold down. It turns out that folding rear seats was an option and not all E90's have them. In this video, I show you how to install folding seats and the release levers.

We kept finding we needed a folding table. This is so easy to store. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxStL0QRChBju4aQlnTrRgBZvafFog0KU3 Opening and closing is easy as well. It has a great handle for carrying around the house. Its pretty lightweight and slides around easy. We bought it for our daughter’s first sleepover. Breakfast was a blur - but 12 7-8 year olds fit at the table with room to spare. We used it at thanksgiving and 6 adults fit comfortably on each side plus 2 on either end for a total of 8. Super easy to clean up afterwards as well.

Actually it is said to make the rear stiffer, something like a "natural strut brace". At least in cars that have a metal plate under the seat back ;)

@@damonf9475 that’s because pos Corolla should have folding seats. It’s a every day transport car that millions own. Every bmw has rear seats like that so it’s harder for the average person to modify lol 😂 under the rear seats is the convertible motor and transmission cover and wiring harness lol and it’s better to have fixed seats that looks harder to tamper with but also fixed seats with thick leather side boosters are high quality looks good and comfortable for passengers and it’s what makes the car more stable and stiffer. That’s why Z BMWs have a roll cage on their seats. But I agree and get what you are saying yeah folding seats isn’t luxury but for a bmw adding folding seats is an expensive upgrade option that no one wants to do therefore “luxury”🤣🤣😭 yeah I wish my BMWs had folding seats but I don’t really care because all of my BMWs trunk space is huge anyway especially my 7 series n 5 series trunk is more than enough space it’s so long it’s way to big way bigger than 3 series like I don’t need anything bigger the only thing I would need folding seats for is like a surf board or a whole bike but I just put bike or surf board on a bike rack I can fit a bike in the back seats too it doesn’t matter but yeah folding seats is really cool I would like my seats down so it looks more roomy and cool I’m adding folding seats when I sell my 530i and buying M5 I’m definitely upgrading to Folding seats it’ll make it look way bigger inside 😍😍😍😍

@@YoungCarWiz if you just go up by one year you get updated engines with more horsepower, a better starting point for tuning I would believe. But 2006 cars also come with perks, since they're equipped with longitudinal dynamics management units which you will need if you're planning on retrofitting adaptive cruise control

I got myself 2006 325i, it doesn't have folding rear seats. Originally it had Dakota Lemon color, I swapped all of them for Dakota Black., but still without folding option. I did a lot of modifications, yet it's not M Sport and I wanted to get bumpers and side skirts from a scrap one. However people in England drive terribly and nearly all cars for spares or repair are really wrecked, with broken bumpers, and terribly scratched wheels. And I won't pay 300 for a bumper that needs another 300 to straighten it and color.
I just finished installing mine from watching this video. I had assumed they folded down but when they didn’t, I wasn’t even sure if I could drive the car with all the stuff I need to move around regularly, especially coming from a Honda fit. Luckily it was easy to install.

I just bought a used F10 and noticed the stripped down models didn't have folding rear seats -- totally insane!
Now all the garden rakes and Ling lumber can tear up the nice inside upholstery when rattling around.

I have a Greenworks 2300psi pressure washer that I was using today to clean the deck and siding on my house. It works great and I was tired of trying to keep my gas powered washer running.

Justin Buice Nope, Just mainly for the car. I use a snubby gun and a canon.
Not sure how well of a known fact it is but anyway, usually on the left side, if you remove the rear seat bottom and flip it upside down, usually just poked under the leather in the front, you should find an a4 sheet of paper with the original factory order, used in the factory to spec the assembly. This will also have the exact date of manufacture and all the option codes. Hope it helps someone.

Sometimes small things can make you laugh for me the " Can we take a moment to appreciate this beautiful hinged technology " along with his facial expression made me burst out laughing had to watch it several times, on a side note it is rumored BMW once thought of making the steering wheel an optional extra.
A Toyota corrola comes with folding seats man, shame on bmw for charging extra for everything. I just bought the whole folding kit for my e90 not much for convenience but because I plan to put two 12s in the trunk in the future.
Luckily in the E90 there's already a passthrough there... on earlier 3 series models like the E36 and E46, the rear bulkhead is different so retrofitting folding seats involves a lot of cutting. That's why you don't see many E36/E46 folding seat retrofits, it's usually not worth it.
Hi from Europe. BMW sells cars with a lot of extra equipment that you have to pay for. One of them is folding rear seats. The same was with F30. Don't know whats about G20.

There's so much marketing pushing innovation, smart technologies, and performance; I agree, these are inexcusable omissions. I could understand if these were super deep sport seats (kind of like on the 6-series) that physically couldn't fold. But the 3-series is BMW's "bread and butter" car. You can't possibly expect every 3-series owner to "know a guy" with a truck ... it's too bad my 525i wagon didn't turn out to be the reliable car it could have been!
Cost me $100 for the bench, $203 for the back folding part and $95 for the sides..so $400 for everything on ebay with shipping. My e90 came with grey seats, A B and C pillars, center console, black and grey dash, door cards, and grey carpet. I wanted to swap everything to black and personalize it with carbon fiber pillars, trim, and kick panels. My girls like "why didn't you just buy it that way instead of spending all that money just to change the color🥴" my reply was for the same reason your boobs didnt come the way they are when they're in a bra..its an added feature
No cap They made trunks not fold down for when people trap people in the trunk so they don’t escape or for people who have valuables can have a piece of mind that there stuff is secured and safe from people breaking in the car … I don’t complain I’ll jst do what your doing and convert it 💯💯🏆 great video
Many Mercedes from the 90s and 2000s like the W210 or W220 didn't vome with folding seats either. So it was like standard for German luxury limos from this era.
I have folding seats on my E46 from the factory aaaaand... Because of that I can't find sport seats that I'm looking for because they're mostly non-folding or in terrible condition 🤦♂️ Folded them maybe once when moving house to fit the TV.

Having owned an audi a4 estate for 7yrs before the 520d i was do used to bootspace. The none folding seats in my 520d is the only thing i didnt check when i bought it as it never crossed my mind and the only thing that rubs me up the wall about my car. That has haunted me till this day.

Also, with regards to the power washer, make sure you don't leave it outside when it freezes. I did with mine and it cracked the pump. The color of the new one is nice, however...

at least you did not need to cut out the sheetmetal like when you do that conversion on the E46
The reason for this being an option is partly about noise and comfort. Without the folding rear seat, there are no gaps for the sound and air to travel into the cabin. The boot noise is high, something I always realise when the seats are folded. When some people add subwoofers in the boot without the folding rear seat, the sound can't really get into the cabin.

About 20 years ago I bought a Saab 93 instead of a 3 Series as folding seats were not even an option, but standard on Saabs. I now have a 335i e91 (Touring), so not an issue. Not sure if e91 n54s were made available in the US. True “street sleeper”.
Damn wish this retrofit was possible for the E46 sedan. There's metal cross beams part of the unibody in the opening.

My E90 folds down plus there is a pass-through at the armrest for my skis.
I think what kills me more is the amount of plastic vanity covers in the engine bay instead of proper silicone tubing for the vacuum system / air intake.
Yes, I changed all the hoses, including the ones that go down to the engine mounts, how could you tell?

Lol i have the same problem. The funny thing is that my e90 before me buying it, had the folding rear seats, because the quick release handles are present inside of my trunk. But somebody swaped all of the seats to the leather ones and the rear seats cannot fold down anymore.. Thanks for this video, will be useful

Yeah it does piss me off that the folding rear seats are an optional extra, it probably costs them a whole $8 in hardware at the factory to put that in and they charge like $400 for it. I love bmw but they their model is definitely pay to play. Btw does anyone know if you can do this with a 6 series? I would love this for my f13
