The Mindset That Changes Everything

  • Polymathy isn’t just a relic of the past-it’s the future. Society has spent decades forcing you into a single box, telling you to specialize, to find your niche, to stick to one path until you retire or die. But what if that’s the biggest lie you’ve ever been told? What if the key to success, creativity, and survival in an AI-dominated world isn’t hyper-specialization-but the ability to master multiple fields, to connect seemingly unrelated ideas, to think in ways that machines and single-track minds never will?
    This is the mindset that changes everything. From Leonardo da Vinci to Elon Musk, from the collapsing myth of the expert to the rising power of multi-disciplinary thinking, this video is a call to arms for the curious, the restless, the rebels who refuse to be just one thing. If you’ve ever felt torn between interests, if you’ve ever been told to "just focus on one thing," this is your proof that you were never the problem-the system was.
    It’s time to break free. The polymaths are taking over. Will you be one of them?

    “A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. I've always been interested in so many things. In the end, I know a little of a lot of things, but I'm not a specialist in anything in particular. I never thought that that could be useful in any way. It was mere curiosity that drove me to never stop learning. In any way, the world forces you to know a lot of things from different fields anyway in order to prevent yourself from being screwed over by companies, officials, lawyers, craftsmen... you name it.
    What scares me is not knowing or learning a lot of things from different areas, it's the lack of time to get a certificate to prove you do, because everyone wants proof for your expertise and knowledge. It's the lack of being able to put down theoretical knowledge (as "experience") in your CV. But I am adaptable.
    I just hope that those, who have a say in this matter, agree with you.

    • @ArtificiallyAware
      @ArtificiallyAware  5 дней назад +5

      Polymaths are not preoccupied with certificates. Instead, they leverage their diverse knowledge to craft unique and innovative solutions. They nurture meaningful connections within their minds. A true polymath does not dwell on their current job; they flourish in the time they have left to explore. Work is simply a means to fund their pursuits, not a path to climb the career ladder. So, set aside concerns about certificates and immerse yourself in what truly ignites your passion.

    My dad has pounded the "Renaissance man" archetype into my head since I learned my first words. He saw it as a necessity and a freedom and the crux of genuine and honest leadership skills. It doesn't necessarily mean you need to be an entrepreneur, but you need to be able to make decisions based on a broad base of information. Think like a language model and you won't be thrown out by scrap.
    Understanding the polymath concept is understanding how little you or anyone can truly know and seeing this as a beautiful gift and not a call towards specialization.
    Never be a one trick pony and you will be more valuable than your bank account ever could.

    • @johnoshaughnessy670
      @johnoshaughnessy670 День назад

      Very well put! Your dad is a wise dude. Mine never emphasized any renaissance man ethos but has always been talented and productive in several areas- sports, music, writing and all the social skills that go into being a successful salesman. My mom is much more into the 'be safe and pick a career' mindset, which I simply cannot do, though I understand her anxieties. Money is a real thing and not picking a single career has real monetary consequences, so she is being practical in wanting me to 'play it safe'. But the ruling principle for me will always be to follow my heart and trust my process. Its the only thing that can work for me, ultimately.

    • @apollo.gemeni.project
      @apollo.gemeni.project День назад

      @johnoshaughnessy670 Well, anytime anyone wants me to just play it safe and act like wanting something more out of life than the standard is dangerous, I just remind myself that there's nothing wrong with lacking the comforts that life brings you.
      So what if I have to live off of canned food and noodles for a year or two until I break into what I want? Starvation used to be a reality for me so this is nothing compared to that.
      So what if I don't currently have a wife or a girlfriend? The girl I love is also on her own ambitious path as well. We both don't have time for what could happen further down the line. Do I need to be a father and husband right now or do I need to be building a meaningful life and learning what being a truly decent person is instead of, like most people, pretending to be one?
      Death, loss, pain... they don't really scare me anymore. They make everything all the more beautiful so if the path I am on leads to any or all of those, so be it. In the movie Troy, Achilles said in one of the most beautiful quotes I have heard in cinema "the God's you worship are jealous of us" referring to the fleeting nature of life and the degree of beauty every moment has in store because, at any moment, we can die.
      I don't really want an easy "safe" life. I never asked for one and I fear that more than I do discomfort, mockery, loneliness, and even temporary mediocrity in the face of developing a new skill set.
      "Memento Mori" is all I have to say to people that tell me I should be playing it "safe." When you do that, you are in danger of waiting until retirement to truly ever live.
      I don't care how absurd it seems to other people to be spending 8+ hours a day writing and learning investigative journalism and living in sleep deprivation because of it.
      I don't care that people fear my obsession with psychology and forensics. I'm not doing this to expose any of their secrets lol
      I don't care that people think wanting to make a positive impact on society is a "waste of time" when it's literally my civic duty if I were to consider myself a true patriot and someone who truly loves the people around me.
      What's the point in wasting your life with a singular skill set? Would you ever want to die depressed and dissatisfied or would you want to lay down to take your last breath in appreciation for the world you got to experience?
      On the other hand, this doesn't necessarily justify disorganized and impulsive behavior either. Goals are the only thing that makes polymathy worthwhile or else you are just wasting your time "finding" yourself when in all actuality, the course of your life was just you all along and there is nothing more to it.

    Lovely, lovely ... the ability to fly mentally, look upon the knowledge banks from above .. and the buzz ..... A buzz when the connectivity flashes .. fast , fast .. and a new concept emerges out up into the open of the outer mind. Analogy is .. a dandelion clock. The seeds collected in the centre ... the seeds of knowledge ... . each connected to a parachute of connections radiating outwards. These each touch another ..and another .. and when the connectivity occurs .. it is like a lightning flash of realisation across the whole outside of the dandelion clock .. realising so very much .. for a moment at least ! A HEADY experience. Mentally flying high and fast.

Even with medication it feels like I can’t even achieve one thing and it bogs me down. I feel lazy, and it’s often something I am told. I would say one of the most impressive yet, in mainstream talk now a days, underrepresented polymaths of all time is Benjamin Franklin.
    If only people actually looked into just how many things the man could do.
    Same with Albert Pike.
    Polymathy is the end goal of Masonry if you look at it with honesty and understanding.
    Social institutions that pushed us into polymathy as both our right and our duty as Americans, and those of you who are not, modern people as a whole are fractured and only a shell of what they once were. Even our political parties are no more mediocre than our dying fraternal and sororal systems. We have come to fear indoctrination so much that we embrace the simplest and least fulfilling paths in life. What do we have teaching people multifaceted thinking anymore? The military? The political pipeline? Imagine a society of people who treated their careers like a homebuilder treated his base of knowledge and network of support. Imagine if accounts could have competent conversations with engineers, doctors with patients, and contractors with their governments. Imagine if the epistemological walls that hold our progression back were broken down and we stay on the same page with people of all walks of life?
    Slavery is a concept that will die. Indenturing will be all but an impossibility in the future. Then and only then will we have choices, to become knowledgeable in all things and valuable intellectually or to fade into obscurity and pure poverty.
    The world cannot advance and we will never leave our solar system and venture into the great unknown if the common man isn't taught to be multifaceted and multidimensional. It's just not possible.
    We were never meant to be a few bits of information contributing to one large societal computer that can only really pull off a small fraction of its true potential. We were all meant to, via the clear and everpresent natural narrative of evolution, become like super computers ourselves, tied into a global network of extremely advanced problem solvers numbering in the billions.
    The human condition is only as high as the most broken and nihilistic individual in any given instance. They aren't dead weight though, they were taught to give up and taught to take comfort in it.

    the problem is does the world only have as much as the general populace knew ? like just money and resources. maybe authority, fame, etc.
    or there are more than the materialistic side...something beyond our understandings which could lead to unimaginable outcomes.
    if it's just money and stuffs, it's just a zero-sum game with our current system.
    if it's more than that, we're reach for the unknown.

    No, no, no. Do not look at Elon Musk, do not look at Steve Jobs, there are only a very small handful of humans like them. There are billions and billions of people, they cannot all be Steve Jobs. Specialization in a technical field will give you the greatest odds of success. If you know a little about a lot of things, but you do not have deep knowledge about anything, then you will be absolutely useless in today’s world. Step one is to specialize in something, then if you have mastered that one thing and have additional time then consider learning other things. Don’t specialize in a technology like a graph arts program that will be soon replaced. Develop first principle knowledge of the technical field that you are in and you will be flexible. I’m an engineer. The engineers that picked a field , specialized in it and stayed for like 20 years are called subject matter experts and can basically write their own ticket. This is bad advice, be warned.
