    I have the Away Aluminum roll aboard. It’s sturdy, looks great and is durable.
    This new bag looks quite nice, and I agree Des, it reminds me of Rimowa.
    Des, a suggestion, I wish you had a small cube light or something off to the side for the part of the vid when we are looking into the bag.
    Also one thing I really like about this bag, the closure locks are recessed, unlike on the Away where they protrude above the outer wall of the Away bag. On the other hand the Away locks are also Aluminum.
    As for the colored bags, are they anodized? Will that scratch off?
    Great vid

      @ItsDesmond  Год назад +4

      Hey. Great suggestion. I was thinking the same thing for my next review. I’ve usually got a cube light hanging around somewhere.
      As for the the MVST - it’s a Aluminum-magnesium ally vs an anodized aluminum. I know that the combo improves strength and durability but not sure how that impacts the color or the method in which the color is applied. So far - I’ve not seen any signs of paint chipping or scratching off the suitcase.

      I’ve filled them both up and used them on trips. But I can’t say I spend much time sitting on my suitcases. Usually it’s from the car to the lounge onto the plane. I don’t see either having much problem with doubling as seats. But if you’ve been able to do this with a polycarbonate suitcase in the past - expect this to hold up as well considering the strength of aluminum vs polycarbonate

    • @ItsDesmond
      @ItsDesmond  Год назад +1

      The large version is a great choice for check in. I personally prefer carry on sized. But if we’re talking about other aluminum suitcases - away, Tumi and Rimowa all make great alternative. Tumi and Rimowa are at a whole different price range. I’m not wowed by the design aesthetic of the away ones.

    • @incogomomo
      @incogomomo Год назад

      @@ItsDesmondhey Des, how do these hold up? I want a Rimowa, but if these hold decently and are just as good, I will purchase this instead. What are your thoughts after having for 10 months?

    • @ItsDesmond
      @ItsDesmond  Год назад +2

      @@incogomomo the suit cases have been holding up well. But I can’t say it would be a fair comparison to a Rimowa suitcase. I personally love my Rimowa Cabin. It’s 3x the price - so I wouldn’t put these two brands in the same category. When it comes to Rimowa - it’s a lot about the brand, build quality and also the process, design and a bunch of other factors that would make the Rimowa - arguably a better suitcase. BUT it’s in a luxury price category. So I would compare it to other products in that range.
      The MVST is a much more approachable and affordable alternative that uses a different tier of materials, manufacturing processes, assembly and other things. It’s definitely not the same build quality of a Rimowa cabin - but I don’t think that’s the intention of this suit cases. It’s about making a good looking, attainable option that still gives you most of the benefits of an aluminum carry on.
      I think if you WANT a Rimowa - it’s probably for more reasons than just a great aluminum suitcase. It’s about the brand, the iconic design, the bar they set with build quality and QA. Plus their warranty and the decades of development experience.
      I think the MVST is an awesome option for those on a budget. But if you WANT a Rimowa or something like a Rimowa - this will not scratch that itch.

    • @incogomomo
      @incogomomo Год назад

      @@ItsDesmond Amazing breakdown! Gives me a whole new perspective. I will go with Rimowa. As it relates to storage for a weeks vacation, will “check in” suffice or should I go more for the Trunk Plus?

    • @ItsDesmond
      @ItsDesmond  Год назад

      @@incogomomo 🤔 hmm depend one’s how you pack! I usually go with my Rimowa Cabin - carry on size for my trips + a backpack or duffle. But I travel so frequently I’ve got a bit of a system for minimal travel.
      One recommendation would be a Rimowa for your carry on - I don’t like to check my expensive suitcases very often. But I will check a cheaper poly carb suitcase instead. So you could spring for the Rimowa - as a carry on - something that stays with you and then go with a lower cost poly or aluminum check size bag from MVST. Easy to replace - durable and not something I worry about TSA destroying or losing.

It seems like the great thing about this suitcase would be that it looks amazing and it's relatively rugged - so I'd hate to have to cover it up, and besides I feel like those things offer minimal protection. I'd prob still use it at first anyway though lol

      It’s definitely thinner and lighter. The Rimowa is a much sturdier feeling suitcase in my opinion. But is it worth the $1k difference in price? That one is tougher to answer. The MVST is definitely a lot of value for the price. Great build, design and modern features. For less than $400. Honestly worth getting as just a go anywhere carry on.

    These bags are just plain crappy. I took the bait and bought one last year and had problems from the jump. The build quality sucks. The case fitting gets out of whack easily, and it's a pain to get the bag to shut properly once that's off kilter. And the telescoping handle gets stuck in mid-position, requiring a complete unpacking of the bag to correct. The bag was less expensive than others like it, which only offers further support to the old saying, "you get what you pay for." My advice: spend a few more bucks and buy a quality suitcase.

    I decided to try a MVST suitcase and have had a poor experience, unfortunately. The suitcase got badly damaged in first check-in (with a “fragile” sticker on it!). It’s not just dents - the suitcase now wobbles and wheels don’t move properly. MVST says they won’t refund it even though it’s clearly a major quality issue, and they can’t replace it for 2 months, so I don’t have a usable suitcase and I’m down ~$500. I would advise caution people to stay away.

    • @ItsDesmond
      @ItsDesmond  11 месяцев назад

      Hey! Thanks for the comment. I haven’t checked one of these suitcases yet. Personally I don’t check any of my carry ons - usually because I’m worried about what will happen to them in transit. With that said - sorry to hear that it didn’t hold up to the checked bag process and your experience with customer service.
      Brands aside - I might recommend using a nicer aluminum carry on as a carry on only - and then a cheaper poly carb or even nylon checked bag. I’ve always had more peace of mind checking my big cheaper plastic or fabric luggage knowing it’s flexible and replaceable
