BTS donated about $100,000 to them at the time.(Bighit also struggled financial problems then). Recently It revealed that BTS visited them too. It's very sensitive issues so celebrities very carefully act to avoid political things but BTS didn't care as usual. That's why I love & respect BTS.

Armies call this song the QUEEN of all BTS songs...
Namjoon and Yoongi really are masterminds to write such a masterpiece with such deep meanings in every single word of the song. This song has never left the melon charts in SOUTH KOREA. Spring day to absolutely loved by the citizens of south korea. Spring day is still played at public places like cafe, parks etc like a remainder of what happened.

If you watch the documentary you'll cry. It made me so sad, that citizens had to volunteer to dive to retrieve the students dead bodies in the sunken ship cause the government wouldn't help do it. There was only like 1 diver who consistently kept diving all day for a couple of days to get all of the corpses. In the end I think the diver killed himself cause he couldn't handle seeing all of those students corpses.

I can't believe the government was that callous. You would think they would at least care about their image. Why on Earth should anyone but the government fund and organize the retrieval of the students? That's a whole other level of messed up. Rest in power to all who passed.

Spring day is considered the Queen song, as even up to now after 3 years it is still in the charts. That's why BTS is great because their songs, lyrics and music videos are different from the others because of the messages. Genius guys! Most of their songs have explanation videos from dkdk tv channel and bookish theories. You can check out RM's Intro: Persona, Suga's Interlude: Shadow and Jhope's Outro: Ego. And its explanation video by DKDKTV channel. Those 3 songs are part of the Map of the Soul 7 album are all interrelated.

You should google the Sewol tragedy. So many school children died because the captain and crew kept telling them everything was ok and to stay in their rooms while all of them evacuated the sinking ship. It was a horrible tragedy that didn't have to happen. And God Bless BTS for bringing more light to the tragedy and to try and help the victims and survivors move forward to a new spring.

Every song of theirs has meaning and substance unlike most artist these days. They can tell a story to show their pain or happiness like no other artist can. The end result is a masterfully done video or song for the entire world to enjoy. The fact that they don’t write garbage songs to appease people is what has drawn me to their incredible work!

Well at this point it is no longer a theory,It is confirmed it is true, I would love for you to continue making this kind of reaction, BTS is more than 7 handsome boys who sing and dance well, they always say that their music has 3 layers, 1 for which wants to hear something good, 2 for the one who likes to enjoy the lyrics and 3 for the one who really wants to analyze all lyrics and music, because his videos and lyrics always have so many details that if you don't see explanatory videos they are simply overlooked, I think That is why we Armys are so passionate about BTS because there is no one, no artist at this time who achieves such a level of genius, in terms of music, lyrics, content and quality as BTS does

Many BTS music videos come to life with the aid of an explained video. Few of us are geniuses and I am guessing most listeners are not Korean so explanation videos can be quite enlightening. And they won't be as sad. The Spring Day music video is their saddest though the actual song now has been repurposed as a song of hope in the Covid crisis. I particularly recommend explanation videos for Idol, Ddaeng, Ugh, On, Persona, Shadow, Ego, Baepsae, and Spine Breaker as they are chock full of goodies and I am sure your viewers will love watching your reactions as you gain insights.

As yoy knew, 'Spring Day' is a song with many stories. In Korea, there was a tragedy called the Sewol Ferry incident in 2014, and nearly 300 adolescents were buried in the sea. The cause of the accident was corruption and the government officials who aided him, which led to a dismantling civil revolution. 'Spring Day' is a song dedicated to commemorating and paying tribute to the youths who died innocently.

Korea - til this day the demise of the 250 students is not forgotten - the high school held an honorary graduation for the students on the year they would have graduated --- im not from South Korea but song and Sewol event is forever in my thoughts - BTS is really amazing.

Thank you for your reactions to this moving song, one of my favourites
At the time of the disaster, the govt tried to cover up the truth, and actively blacklisted anyone who tried to speak up about it and reveal not only what happened but the place of corruption contributing to events. A number of artists were blacklisted and lost their careers. Many were justifiably afraid and stayed silent - BTS took a different route, managing to give support to survivors and their families and (just) avoid blacklisting - but they had to act extremely discretely. They donated money privately (their donations are always private and only become public if the recipient discloses them somehow), but we have just been told that shortly after the sinking they also made private visits to the families along with the company CEO, Bang Si Hyuk. Those families have never forgotten, and say that to this day, they celebrate the members' birthdays as their own family members. This is in Korea a very powerful statement. These acts were at the time extremely dangerous and could have led to BigHit, BSH and BTS losing everything. Extremely courageous.
Perhaps that is why this MV needs someone to interpret it - which this does very well I think.
No one has mentioned this, but the pile of clothes - both in the Boltanski art installation and in the MV - reminds me of piles of clothes, shoes, spectacles, teeth, suitcases etc found at extermination camps when liberated by Russian and Western troops at the close of WWII - those also evoked the millions of lives lost in the camps in very concrete ways. It's a deeply powerful image, even though I have no idea whether this link was intended when making either the installation or the MV.
There is more than one YT video explaining the actual events - this is one ... ruclips.net/video/5_A8dq2fA5o/видео.html The govt supported the ferry company to try to silence families.
I recommend you explore a bit more to understand more deeply just why this song has such a presence in Korea to this day, never once having left the charts since it was issued...

Thank you so much for watching the explanation video for Spring Day. As others have commented this song is very special to South Koreans and has not once left their music chart.
We all call her our "Queen" and Yoongi calls her our "Zombie", the boys had to be subtle when writing this as the Korean government was blacklisting people who supported the families or spoke out about what happened.
I would love for you to continue to react to the explanation videos for BTS songs, several of them have very clever wordplay in them however they are rooted in their culture and we wouldn't understand fully.
Ddaeng and Ugh are 2 other songs which have explanation videos, as does several others.

It was really sad to see in the videos, how you could see the guys trying to break the windows, as it sank, you could see them. But the rescuers couldn't do anything else.
A teacher who saved some students felt so bad about being alive and his students were not, that he committed suicide, and many students who were saved did the same.
The government tried to hide that they acted badly.

Also, an article came out a couple of weeks bfore 2020 was over, the truth around of the released of this song, the boys and BangPD (their "father") visited the families of the victims, while there was a rule for it (the government back then forbit anyone to open up the story again, to visit the foundation of these families. Especially for the public figures. There were real punishments, like send into the prison, if anyone dare to cross the rule)..
The news that we got years b4, was just the fact that the boys & their agency just donated huge amount of money for the families, secretly, and that's it. We didn't know that they did more than that! And just put this in mind, they just tasted a little success back in 2016 (Spring Day's released). They had no huge influence nor fame like now. Imagine how brave they were to against the gov, & how great they heart was even with little things in their hands at the moment, but they sacrificed so much already for the people

This always bring tears to my eyes but I have to say if you want the full effect of spring day and the sewol disaster then watch the documentary about it, how they just all sat on the boats and watched the ship sink with all those people, how they pretended to pump air in because the president was watching and it caused the boat to sink quicker, and how civilians had to dive to recover remains because the government wouldn't. How it was so traumatic for the divers that at least one took their own life. And try your hardest while you watch it not to swear at the screen as well.

Rotten Mango has a video talking about the tragedy, giving details on the events. During the tragedy, a 16-year-old boy was the first to call for help, while the others were talking to their parents, he was on the phone with the police, unfortunately, he did not survive the tragedy. When the parents asked why he hadn't called them, they were told that he was on the phone with the police, trying to save as many people as possible.

It used to be just a theory, but recently it was confirmed. In fact in that accident if there were many injustices, this fine the captain was sanctioned but the lives that were lost in the accident and after him as a consequence is not able to "reward" (the director of the institution attended by the students committed suicide because he felt guilty of sending them on that trip) the worst thing is that the boys (the students) did not understand well what was going on and took it to match and they only obeyed the first order of the captain who was not to leave of their cabins, they later gave the order to evacuate but by failure in the Seowol the boys did not listen and they all died along with teachers and other passengers, thanks to the insansanity of the captain who decided to leave the place and leave the others to his fate

If you look up what happened...what the captain and most of the crew (not all. Some stayed and tried to do the right thing by helping the passengers) did is despicable and they deserve all they got and more. The government and media deserves just as much. For them to tell the families the kids are okay, but then a couple hours later tell them they are all missing...I can’t imagine the absolute devastation. So many died. Hundreds of kids and teens, crew members that stayed to get as many off as they could, divers even. And it wasn’t a mechanical failure, it wasn’t weather. It was entirely human error that caused the disaster. And those humans took the life boats and left innocent schoolchildren to die.

The Italian Army documentary provides much more detail of the tragedy, the boat carrying 3x it's weight and being in disrepair, the rescue attempts, the corruption in the media and the government, the blacklisting of people who spoke out, and riots. The documentary has film clips, news articles, and interviews. The end result was the President of Korea was arrested. BTS didn't speak out directly because of the political atmosphere but this was their response, as well as money and visits. I had to mute the Italian narrator a lot of the time because she spoke so quickly, but I was able to put it together with subtitles and frequent pauses. I was in tears any time I spoke to a friend about it for a while after reading/seeing that documentary. It was a sickening tragedy.

I wish they watched the Italian army explanation that explained more about the sewol ferry tragedy and the strategic choices by using snow piercer and the ones who walk away from omelas…… bc the stories are a prefect representation of a lot of the problems in the Korean culture that helped lead to the sewol ferry tragedy, the massive mishandling of the sewol ferry tragedy during the sinking and after the sinking with the cover up and blacklisting of any journalists who dared to speak up about how things actually happened… it’s devastating and this is the actual reason for this song… it’s not a theory anymore… I don’t think the creator of this video connected that the movie and book were used to symbolize the sewol tragedy before it happened and after as well…. Stuff like this is exactly why bts is my ultimate group… and how special they are to really use their platform to highlight the injustices they see and are very much touched by. The MV explanation only covers the very surface details of this horrific tragedy unfortunately and not the full truth and the incredibly cruel events that had happened and I really wish more people would read or watch videos about the full story like Rotten Mango's video about the Jewol Ferry Incident to learn about what had actually happened and how cruel and horrifying it actually was.
More people need to be aware of this incident and far too many people only know about the basics of this tragedy by watching short videos like the Spring Day explanation and that is a shame. This wasn't just a freak accident, it was an incredibly monstrous series of intentional events that had lead to the deaths of hundreds of innocent people that had lost their lives way too soon.

Hi, so not that you need to react to it, but if you have the time I would highly recommend the following explanation video for the MV. It does cover some of the same ground as the one that you watched, however it puts the circumstances of the disaster into a much clearer context and describes what the members themselves have actually said and done with relation to the tragedy. While no one explanation video is 100% complete, I have found this one seems to provide clearer ties to the imagery represented. ruclips.net/video/FrT4a_Fw6pE/видео.html.
