I love that River's actress had no idea why she said half of the things she said in the library, and yet she seemed to understand it completely. Looking back at it now, that whole episode feels far different from when we first saw it.
Actually her notebook prop has an outline of most of their story in it. She knew exactly what she was saying. What made it fun was David wasn't told about her character so he was genuinely confused about what was going on.
@terozu5440 Even with the notebook, I'd argue Kingston's playing of River throughout the series was downright impressive. I've watched the River/12 special, then jumped right to the Library episodes, and it feels genuinely coherent, like she Knows the Doctor as a person. Between Kingston and the writing, every moment between River and 10 feels like a callback to future episodes and their relationship.
alex kingston is amazing ❤ i think if it was filmed in her timeline (she'd filmed all she said in the library before and then went to the library episode). she would have struggled to film it...watching her penguin books yt video...she gets super emotional watching the singing towers clips
I mean she has a point to be fair, if he died in The Library, it would likely rip the universe apart. Remember that River is the daughter of Amy, who only met the Doctor during his 11th incarnation, and River was only created by The Silence to kill the Doctor. His death this early would mean River was never born, River never entered The Library and the whole scenario in The Library was impossible. Even something as small as her handing him her packed lunch would be gone. Obviously she could never tell The Doctor, but her death was a fixed point simply because of how vital of a role River played in The Library, and the universe as a whole. Even if the Doctor was right, and he survived The Library and regenerated into the 11th Doctor earlier it would've destroyed the universe. This is because the 10th Doctor's death would've led to the death of the 11th Doctor which without the extra regenerations granted by Rassilon would've meant the Doctor's death entirely. This would've been devastating as the 11th Doctor would've never met Amy or The Silence, therefore The Silence wouldn't have ever been created, meaning once again that River Song would've never been created. Once again, this all leads to a paradox and the destruction of the universe. A fixed point cannot be altered, and the universe will go out of its way to correct this, as proven within The Waters of Mars where Adelaide Brooke killed herself to prevent the entire future of humanity from being altered.

Just save someone. In Day of the Doctor, 11 was dealing with a Modern Day Zygon Invasion that tied to one 10 was dealing with in the 1560s. They worked together to fix everything. The first episode of 12's run, Clara is finding it hard to accept that the new face is still the same doctor. Best combination of modern Doctor Who was when Davies was showrunner and Moffatt wrote great episodes like this one. I doubt it will happen but it would be awesome if Moffatt and Davies collaborated on the 60th anniversary.
River Song is the best Doctor Who character ever. I can watch her episodes over and over again without getting bored and that’s not true for any other character. Who else would carve Hello Sweetie into an ancient cliff or write it on a space cruiser home box, in old high Gallefrian, but Melody Pond aka River Song, the Doctor's second wife ( spoilers ). 😁❤️
Mind you, it makes sense ... but I've always wondered, what kind of parents is ok with their baby girl married to the Doctor? He's fantastic, but not altogether sane, and a happy ever after would never be in the cards. She burned brightly, but she was never going to die of old age.
You forgot the time when River faces down the Dalek and it tells her she's The Doctor's companion she wouldn't hurt a fly. Then she tells it, I'm River Song look me up. And then it says something to the effect of "Mommy" before it gets shot. And then the time when she faces down Nazis and tell them she's one of everyone of the people they labeled, sorted, collated, tagged, and then put into concentration camps or gassed in deadly showers. Then her regeneration knocked them out when they tried to shoot at her. All of this after they put Hitler in a cupboard and she poisoned The Doctor.
yes! also love the moment of "I was taught [to fly the Tardis] by the best, it's a shame you (referring to the Doctor) were busy that day", as well as the hallucinogenic lipstick moments (both uses such as with a guard and mentions such as the deleted timeline where she uses it on Kennedy or when she becomes Cleopatra), and def the Dalek begging for mercy, there honestly should be a part 2 cause this is missing so many iconic moments!
29:50 - That moment when you realize that while she may not remember who the Silence are to her, River is getting revenge on her abusers in a way. They and Kovarian took her away, robbed her of her childhood, and turned her into a psychopath. The same Silence who took Amy while a young Melody in a space suit watched are now getting murdered by a grown up River. 100% iconic. Also, the butt bump she does to the Doctor while she says "Shut up and drive" makes me laugh every time.

Her death in the library, the kiss on Trenzalore with her data ghost, and The Husbands of River song. Three different Doctors, three different goodbyes.
Each of them is perfect.
If she comes back to Doctor Who, it will only be a tragedy (Which do we really need to see more angst with these two) or overindulgent garbage where she shows up for pure nostalgia bait.
I can pitch an idea if youd like
My personal favourite : “it’s a shame you were busy that day” … dying, murdered by me. That my dears, is how subtle and kinda salty Moffat’s writing was :)
Miss them both
Oh! I just made the connection. Hahaha
When you see all the episodes with river song, we fondly look back on this episode as the episode that started the story of River Song. All the moments where she references the future gets made into episodes further down the line. Truly brilliant writing.
Oh they took it one step further than that. According to the actress, the actual prop she had her first time on set had a ton of stories of her travels in it. Almost all of them became actual episodes.
I love how the first time The Doctor snapped and the tardis opened, it was a big moment. Then, later in the series, he does it multiple times without flinching while arguing with Clara
When the music plays over Doctor Moon’s speech…….you can totally imagine he’s a future Doctor as Moffat suggests
🙂
I like to imagine he’s the very last one, going to settle down with the only women that he loved and was remotely like the doctor until he died. When he died river song escaped to when we saw her in the name of the doctor.
@@elijahmitchell9944 that was the idea. Doctor Moon was to the final incarnation of the Doctor, the one that River spoke about, who died before she did. He sets up the whole thing so they can be together in CAL forever. However it was a bit constrictive so it was brushed aside. Still a possibility though.
Love the weird connection that 10,11 and 12 share. They just casually help each other out sometimes.
10 being the memory used for reminding 12 to save people
10 helping 11 with the zygons
11 calling Clara for 12
12 helping 10 save river
12 helping both save galifrey
I love this
And then there's the Master who repeatedly tries (and occasionally succeeds) to kill their past and future selves.
Can you explain this more? Im not too familiar with 11 and especially not 12
@@jake384100 in order of how they are written.
In one of the earlier episode for the 12th, He's trying to come to grips that he literally CAN'T save someone due to the laws of time. He then realizes the reason that he shares the face of someone the 10th doctor met is because the 10th broke the rules to save him anyway. The lesson was Always save people, no matter what.
So 11 calls the future to tell her it's still him and he's nervous too, and she accepts it.
12 was the doctor that Gave River the Sonic 10 uses to "save" her in the Library.
In Day of the Doctor, when all of the doctors are saving Galifrey and working together, 12 was there even though he likely didn't have to be since 11's calculations were under the assumption he would never regenerate again.
Hope that helps

Those damn ninjas cutting onions!
River Song is my favorite character! She’s the reason I started watching Doctor Who as a kid. I was so excited to learn who she was.
That scene where he says there's a first time for everything.... and she says "and a last" ...
gets me EVERY TIME!
River was such an unexpected perfect compliment for the show. I love her character.
I love that this is over half an hour long. That says so much about how awesome River is.
over half an hour and sorely incomplete!
@@jeffreymontgomery7516 Yeah they need to add "part 1" to the title of the video. Since it ends only about half way thru her appearances on the show.
this video isn’t supposed to be 34 minutes. It’s supposed to be every single one of her appearances
it's also suposed to be announcing she's finally gettign a spin off of her own as a limited series where she teams up with lady vastra Jenny and Strax
@@WardNightstone that could work if we didn't see her entire timeline
@@WardNightstone if anyone, Russell will make it happen
@@WardNightstone i really hope this happens cause this is great! I really want to see more of river but i feel her character is over in doctor who. If they ever bring her back they are going to have to end the episode with river having her mind wiped of the events in the episode because she wouldn’t remember that doctor’s incarnation in the husband’s of river song. Which to be fair I wouldn’t mind if they did that for one more appearance, but I wouldn’t want that done more than once.
Having that series would make me so happy. I love her character so much and the paternoster gang.
@@omegagamer4124 we’ve seen pretty much her entire time with the doctor, not without him
She better be back someday, she's literally the best character from Dr Who
River song and Donna Noble are iconic women of the Doctor Who series
She needs to come back!! Most iconic character ever
River Song was the most iconic figure in the Doctor Who universe..... loved her complexity and Alex Kingston's performance......
River Song's role and the actress that plays her, are a match made in heaven. She should 100 percent have, her own weekly science fiction Doctor Who spin off TV show (smile...smile).
Totally!
It would *have* to be called Spoilers
@@Ph03n1xx Ha ha ha ... well, as someone that lives in the USA the BBC always has me "shaking my head". They created a multi-season TV show with the actress that played Miss Shara Jane Smith targeted for Middle School and High School students. And even cast a female actress in the role of Doctor Who. Then, why not just create a spin-off TV show for River Song as Mrs. Dr. Who. If they did, I would even sign up for an extra streaming service, just to watch her adventures (smile...smile).
@@transitengineer that's what I mean, a spin off, but called Spoilers. Mostly because she says it so often people would remember it really well
First time I ever heard "SPOILERS' ever. Loved River, really passionate actor. Too bad River & Dr travel in opposite time lines
I don't think they were in exactly opposite timelines, but it probably mostly was backwards which was unfortunate.
12:00
River : "Everybody lives"
11th Doctor : "Wrong, wrong, bit right, mostly wrong"
No one could be a better "River Song" than Alex Kingston.
Best character, best love story. She is amazing
I really wish we had more episodes with her and the 12th Doctor or even at least one with the 13th, 14th, and 15th Doctors. It would have been nice to see a reunion between River Song and 14.
at this point give river a season 😭 or two or three
on big finish they have,I think theres currently 8. You should hear her interactions with the classic doctors, especially 7th, its hilarious
Best River Song moment is the one where the Dalek Begs for Mercy when it hears her name, second best is where they reveal who her parents are.
Who else would carve Hello Sweetie into an ancient cliff or write it on a space cruiser home box, in old high Gallefrian, but Melody Pond aka River Song, the Doctor's second wife ( spoilers ). 😁❤️
The queen of the show
There better be a part 2 because this one’s missing so much!!
"Spoilers..."
What happened to the Dalek?
And a lot of "extra" stuff here should be edited out.
the fact they made one...
@@CharlesEzakichi It died
The best was when she told to his parents that who is really her. I cried that in the past and the music was going to help it to be more dramatic.
Mind you, it makes sense ... but I've always wondered, what kind of parents is ok with their baby girl married to the Doctor? He's fantastic, but not altogether sane, and a happy ever after would never be in the cards. She burned brightly, but she was never going to die of old age.
Oh, imagine River returning alongside with the 10th Doctor and Donna!
Her whole arc is perfect example on how epic sci-fi should be written.
" and in the day... When he looks at me ..
And he wont even recognise me , the more i know him... The less he knows me and it will kill me "
29:50 - That moment when you realize that while she may not remember who the Silence are to her, River is getting revenge on her abusers in a way.
That "One last run!" makes me cry EVERY. SINGLE. GODDAMN. TIME!!
I love River Song! She is a awesome character and a awesome actress.

"You and me, one last run!"
And i'm already tearing up for some reason.
by far my fav doctor who character, amazing how she only appeared in 15 episodes and still made her into one of the most iconic character ever created!
I was born as soon as Peter capaldi became the doctor but rewatching the series since christopher she is one of the best characters
She said her last goodbye to the 10th,
Had an affair with the 11th,
And met him for the first time as the 12th.
We were shocked and left empty with David,
Happy with her relationship with Matt,
Devastated with the truth with Peter.
She watched us run at the end,
Had a wonderful life as we knew more,
And knew only so little when we knew her end.
You watched us run River Song, as we watched you run over the years.
Thank you for an amazing experience and a character we will never forget, Alex Kingston.
What are you talking about she met the eleventh doctor first in the show. Unless you mean some book or audio drama or something
Also she “said her last goodbye” to the eleventh doctor as a ghost in The name of the doctor
@@orbital151 she met David Tennant, the 10th doctor, first. She said goodbye to him then, but he said goodbye as the 13th incarnation (Capaldi)
@@Ph03n1xx hmm no. He met her in his 10th incarnation. She met him when he was in his 11th incarnation. From her perspective she met 11 and 12 before she met 10. And then as a data ghost she said goodbye to the 11th doctor. So her final goodbye was to 11. And he saw her as 12 but that was before she went to the library and became a data ghost.
@@Ph03n1xx no. She said goodbye to 12 before 10. (From her point of view )
I love the three playlists in the description, good old LINK HERE, LINK HERE and LINK HERE.
Yeah they’re pretty good but imo [LINK HERE] is just better
Every River Song's moment is iconic...She's the best female carachter of the Nu Who!
The way Rivers arch was set up with her dying when we first met her was brilliant
Seeing this uploaded so recently gives me hope we will see her again.
River being so protective over her mum in the angels two-parter is really obvious in retrospect
River knew the Doctors name, and when she died her mind and knowledge was uploaded to the database of a public library. Are we sure the Doctors name is a secret still?
1. You'd have to know she's in there
2. It's a sentient computer so probably resistant to wireless hacking or doesn't have wireless features.
3. In order to get to the physical data bank you have to dodge shadows that will eat you
River Song: "You might want to find something to hang on to."
*flies and floats away gracefully into the sky*
Donna n river song,
My favorite companions.
Her and the doctor were the best duo.
It's been years since I watched this show, and I still remember almost all of the iconic alien species that the Doctor encounters but one. Is it a coincidence that the one I totally forgot about, including their name and their special gimmick, is the Silence? Hmmmm....
No like, the way she described it "He looks through me and it shouldn't k*ll me but it does" breaks my heart
River Song aka Melody Pond, What a woman!!!!
Tennant’s 14th Doctor NEEDS to have that scene with River
Or at the very least tell Donna he finally figured out who River was to him.
River is the best Doctor Who character hands down with the best lines
31:22 I love the fact that 11 is like 'OH oh okay HANDS' HANDS THE HANDS I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE HANDS!' while kissing River. ahahahha
Every River moment is an Iconic River moment and I for one would Love River to come back and give us more iconic moments😌
According to her Wikipedia, Alex Kingston has written a River Song novel! Definitely going on my Amazon wish list.
her iconic moments were each time she was on screen
Damn skippy
River Song is a fixed iconic moment in time that can't be rewritten.
Not one line
@@haddy106 don't you dare
River was everything
i’ve been waiting for this one!!
I think I have loved River Song since I first saw her. Some companions are pretty, but River Song is beautiful.
And at 77 years old, I STILL think she's sexy...
I still feel so sad for Donna tho. She never found her husband in the end.
It breaks my heart every time!
But didn't the Doctor erase her memory in a later episode? She became normal, and found 'another' love of her life.
@@hunnybee971 Well l, yeah, but just cause she doesn't remember doesn't mean it's not sad.
It would've been nice to see her confrontation with the Dalek in The Big Bang where they're absolutely terrified be included as an iconic moment. Because it reminds the viewers that not all of he Doctors' companions are cuddly and nice.
For the most iconic River moments she isn't in a lot of this video.
And you even missed out her show down with the Dalek!
_River:_ Doctor, can you sonic me?
I need to boost the signal so we can use it as a beacon.
*SONICS*
_Amy:_ Uuuuuhhh Doctor! You soniced her!!
Best moment.
Gods, I love River's look after Donna goes "What of it?" Like, "What's with the attitude?!"
The product of Amy and Rory was bound to be iconic
I'd love to see Alex King make a return to Dr. Who as The Doctor.
If The Doctor could take the form of someone he'd rescue (Caecilius in the Fires of Pompeii (2008)), then The Doctor can take on the form of (an older) River Song. 😎
I mean, that's kind of a cool idea, but 1) it wouldn't really be River, it's The Doctor. 2) I dunno, I feel like The Doctor taking the form of their wife is a bit, strange.
1) Yep, it would be The Doctor.
2) Yep, that's The Doctor all right.
😁
River Song is the embodiment of girlboss
Would River return in the 60th anniversary special, or in series 14?
It was always a treat when she was a part of the storyline, I ❤️ this actress.
It's so sad that River was in her final days of her 24th year with 12 so she sent him this message, her husband, expecting 12 to show up - and then there's 10 instead. Slightly disappointing, but it's all right, that's still her Doctor -- then he has no clue who she is. Doesn't even recognize her. Doesn't trust her. Poor, poor River.
HOW DARE YOU PUTTING 34 MINUTES VIDEO AS HER ICONIC MOMENTS?!!!!!
all of her moments are iconic
She is my absolute favorite character. I was sad to see it end. The 10th and 11th doctors had the best companions
26:56 can't believe they set Matt Smith on fire just for that one scene. Truly a dedicated actor.
I miss you sooooo mutch!!!😭😍😍😍
River will ALWAYS be iconic and one of my fave companions😍 no one is as badass as she is👏
How dare you not include the time she made a Dalek beg for mercy
"if we're gonna do this, let's do it properly"
