Not sure how coincidental this was, but the guy playing Parsons (Dick Schall) was married to Valerie Harper, who of course played Rhoda. Schall was on a couple of episodes of MTM, too.
Good eye. I recognized his voice. Richard Schaal was married to Valerie Harper during the MTM show, and the Rhoda show. They eventually divorced, but I enjoyed seeing them interact on these shows.
Bill Idelson, who plays Herman is also pretty good writer. While watching a lot of these old shows like M*A*S*H or Andy Griffith his name will pop up as written by.
Who could blame Sally when Herman always puts his mother first and allows her to control his entire life and everything. It's one thing to care for your mom and listen to her opinion but Herman's mom is all in his personal space and dating life, coddling him and everything. It's amazing the guy could even get a girl. Or breathe on his own without her trying to put an oxygen mask on him. Reminds me of Howard's mom on the Andy Griffith show. Way too overprotective, manipulative and controlling. I wonder if guys and their mothers exist like that in real life? That's a pretty sad existence I think.
@@garyfrancis6193 They were talking about Howard, Mayberry's Hall of Records guy (I think), the "momma's boy" on that show, not Opie. Howard's parent was all in their face just like Herman's of this show, hence the parallel and Esmeralda's comment.
Yes. The series was filmed from 1961-1966. Her husband passed in 1964. She wore colorful bows in her hair before that. Her husband was a fan of her signature look. When he passed she chose to wear black. Very sweet
@@stephenstumbke1721 Yeah! Leave it to the good old classic sitcom to normalize toxic relationships. I just watched that episode where a guy is sexually harassing Laura I'm front of Rob and then they end up all "Aw, shucks, I just feel sorry for this guy!". An amusing show but a lot of it doesn't age well.
And to Kristabrewer6736, that's messed up. I can't say I blame her. Would You want to go on dates with your boyfriend and his mother tagging along? And when you want to sit together she forces her way in between you and sits between you every time?
Agree. Never thought of that. Nice catch. Ernie Borgnine McHale’s Navy. Although Ernie had some pretty awesome dramatic rolls back in the 50s. From here to eternity, and his academy award for Marty.
No wonder there is such violence. The horrific commercials advertising violent pretend beings infesting my screen is partially guilty for all our crime. Sadly, it's embedded in the s0-called brains of America. So sad. Dick Van Dyke is the era I grew up. Sadly, respectful people don't exist anymore!
One of Mel’s better clap backs “Because i don’t know what you are!” 😂😂😂
You know you can't be replaced? Classic. Lots of laughter.
Rose Marie was a very undervalued performer.
They loved her in Vegas
I love Sally.
I don’t.
@@garyfrancis6193 That's good. Lol.
@@garyfrancis6193 I like Sally, but there's very good reason not too. I could actually FEEL Herman's hurt. Sally's always treating him so rotten!
She is fabulous

Mary Tyler Moore was the cutest girl ever!
Jennifer Connelly early 90's !!!!

Thanks for the upload.💜

Really? Oh that’s so cool
I love when people share fun facts like this. These old shows are way before my time.

there should've been more sally centered episodes. this one is so funny

He even won a writing award for an episode of Get Smart.
God we didn't have remote controls for our TVs til the 1980s in the UK 🇬🇧
If Herman got some balls, I'm pretty sure he and Sally could have been a good couple. His letter to her was very heartfelt.

This would have been a perfect episode for them to announce that Sally and Herman we're getting married this would have been perfect
Sally's perennial search for a husband. I think she was a good catch.
Does anyone else hear, " and Larry Mathers as the Beaver" as conclusion to opening ditty?
Great plot twist
It is sad that Rose Marie's husband actually passed away in 1964
Isn't that why she always wears the black bow in her hair? In memory of her late husband.

It's a show, sweetie! Unfortunately, people aren't respectful any longer! I grew up in this era. It was a sacred generation!
Keep in mind you guys that this was filmed in the 1960's. Pedophile and abusive behavior was normalized. Or swept under the rug for women.
And to Kristabrewer6736, that's messed up. I can't say I blame her. Would You want to go on dates with your boyfriend and his mother tagging along? And when you want to sit together she forces her way in between you and sits between you every time?
Herman's the one that should tell his mother off so he can marry Sally. Even though it's just a show I feel bad for Sally mostly.
The tv host was played by Dick Schaal....Valerie Harper's husband. Later was on the MTM show.
Her future husband!!!!😃
Classic
Do they ever actually work?
Do you want to watch 25 minutes of people making skits and writing and thinking
5:30 ha ha the music
I love the hairstyles and the clothes, but the 1970s are coming to ruin it all
Sally is the female Ernest Bourgnine

QUIT INTERRUPTING!!!😐
Sally's constant desperation to find a husband is extremely annoying.
She’s not that desperate it was just a joke at first. She didn’t expect to get any real replies.
It's all part of the comedy makeup of the show 🤣
Larry Mathews was a poor choice for Richie he was a lousy actor
Larry Amsterdam?
@@garyfrancis6193
No. The name the OP of this thread gave is their correct name.
@@garyfrancis6193 Amsterdam is Morey Amsterdam. He played Buddy, Rob's coworker. Larry Matthews played Richie, Rob's son.
To me Richie is THE most annoying of all the sitcom kids in this era. Ed Haskell is less annoying than Richie. 😂😂😂😂
C'mon, he was a cute kid and even cuter singing, "Little Drummer Boy" and "The Mommy Lisa"
