I kept singing this to myself in school much to the annoyance of those in my class. I was almost 10 and in Primary 5. One day when I was singing it my teacher said “Yes Missy. We know. You never are giving up are you?”
Lol, same but loads of my friends loved it.
One of, if not, the best orchestras ever in the ESC.
And also one of the worst stages. It looks like an industrial warehouse
@@morbidsearch didn’t Terry Wogan say it looked like the inside of a giant toaster - spot on
Agreed, it's better than the recorded version.
Totally agree! Everything was perfect, from the singing to the dance routine, the song itself and who would have guessed that it even sounded better with the orchestra who did a fantastic job! Not always an easy task with a dance song (see Gina G's Uh Ah...).
Они хоть на людей похожи
The early '80s British entries are probably the most exhilarating set of songs ever sent to the ESC. Plus, most of them can be the perfect soundtrack for a sitcom intro
Not only is the song great, but also, so is the choreography! Simple, elegant! Eurovision needs to return to that!
This! Is! Fucking! Pop! Quality!
One of my favourites from the UK ever at Eurovision.
And that orchestra nailed it.
Love from Switzerland 🇨🇭
The only UK entry in my opinion which deserved to make it to the finals.
Best orchestra ever that year, and one of their best moments of the evening (along with Israel and Belgium). This piece is as pop as it gets, and they sound great on it.
The 80´s rule!!! This was great!!!! I love it!!!! Such great childhood memories with this song!!!!
Same!
This was a great song. Wow. Back in the days when UK was my favorite ESC country....
Back when Eurovision was fun!!!
It's not the same anymore unfortunately
I have nice memories singing this as a toddler: " I'm never giving up not giving in"
This should have won. This is my first memory of Eurovision and I still love this song. The falling chairs...
@@jonathanfurzeland4740 Me too, but I was six. Nearly had a heart attack when I discovered the lady in the middle was Carrie Grant of Pop Idol and Fame Academy.
A catchy number, and cute choreography, yes -- but a bit overproduced and safe, compared to the other entries of the night. It deserved higher than 6th place, yes, but the first, third, and fourth place winners of that night were definitely better (in my opinion).
@@IDontWantThisStupidHandle I was probably biased as I thought the guy singing was so cute..
A classic ;)
How I miss the live orchestra!
Javier Bilbao Absolutely. A wonderful pop song, a live orchestra and not a CD backing track in sight. This is why I loved Eurovision back then.
@@simonluckin1402 and singing in one's native language!
such a catchy song should have won
still remembers that beautiful song !
I've looked all over the place to find this song. When I was a little girl I made up a dance with my sister. Thanks for posting.
One of the best UK entries
Watched this so many times but have never noticed the confetti thing until you mentioned it!
@@enanob2559 hey did I mention confeti?
Ah,Terry Wogan, miss hearing his wonderful voice these days, such a great loss. I don’t think there’s ANY Tv or radio presenter nowadays that can match him,or ever will.
Lourdes baby Me too! Terry would have me in stitches and i always thought one of the best things about Eurovision was Terry.
God bless him
He completely destroyed Eurovision in the UK. . Couldn't stand him.
@@Muswell Agreed, he was often rude with his commentary against competitors, countries, and even hosts he did not favour.
@@Muswell 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
1983 has got to be one of the strongest eurovisions ever, literally every song is fantastic. sweet dreams were just that, a sweet dream! carrie, helen, and bobby all sounded great and i loved this song's production. my 2nd of this year behind ms. ofra haza! :)
Taste ! To me, Ofra Haza for Israel (with the fabulous "Chai" !) was much better than Corinne Hermès who represented Luxembourg. And I say that even if I'm French.
100% agree
@@DanTony68How? Chorus is boring. Corine has unbeatable voice.
@@djomla7 Ofra's voice is way more colorful and expressive than Corinne's one. And the chorus of "Chai" is much better than the winning song overall.
@@DanTony68 If we talk about colorfulness and expresiveness, then Carola eats them all for dinner. Ofra's chorus is basically tra la la. I enjoyed Belgium's repetitiveness 10 times more than Israeli song.
Such a catchy song, deserved higher placing. 1983's ESC, like 1986's, was stand-out for me, when the ESCs still majored on songs rather than SFX, and orchestras were still live. Many non-UK folk even sang in their own languages!
I've come across this song was too young when it was released nut I've had it on repeat ever since I love this song😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Singing with Bucks Fizz now and they sang this, brought back good memories and i loved the song too
So... much... 80s goodness!!
The dark-haired girl is Carrie Grant (Carrie Gray at the time), now a vocal coach to the stars and TV talent show judge in the UK. She was 17 then.
17? I thought she was older. Would she be allowed to compete now?
@@itsjemmabond An artist must be at least 16 years old nowadays, so I can answer your question with Yes
@@timoherrmann2818 Okay. My cousin was supposed to compete in Eurovision this year and she's 17, so that makes sense.
@@itsjemmabond oh wow! Who is your cousin?
@@Texaslawhorn Her name is Destiny. She was on Britain's Got Talent a few years ago, and she won Junior Eurovision in 2015, representing Malta.
Catchy song
Munich 1983 and Duesseldorf 2011: Germany is a perfect host for remarkable Song Contests!
A good happy song for Eurovision. Love it. Great song. Great vocals.
Pure Eurovision and very polished for 1983 ! Superb orchestra
Bucksfizz were the climax for Britain in euro vision. U cudnt beat that. Cheryl bakers legs cudnt be matched
Pure 80s fabulous. What is not to love. And a stool slide I mean!. Plus they were head to toe in dash. If you are mid 40s in 2022 you'd know Dash!
12 points go to the bar stools!! Loved that era when happy, cheesy songs did well at ESC
This was so '80s! How did this not win?!
Well performed - great entry
My favourite moment of this, I think, is at 2:06 when Bobby McVey, having forgotten to let go of his confetti when he was supposed to, tries to discreetly push it over the front of the stool. Great song though, 1983 was such a great year.
I'm wondering if he was meant to stand up as early as he did on the first chorus as well.
1983 music videos playlist I've put together: ruclips.net/p/PL6oCQqv2KW6WTjSBpavnnkILla2nhwwrV
I don’t think he forgot to throw it, it was on the stool because he had dropped it 😜
I'm surprised they didn't have the camera showing them all sprinkle the confetti
@@spannamatronic I think he was full of energy that night and bless him for it! Boy he lifts his leg up lol
♡♡♡ the 80s!!!!
The best entry for UK in many years a well balanced vocals.
No kidding. This is just great.
AMAZING PERFECT PERFORMANCE. GREAT SONG. MY 1983 WINNER. MUCH BETTER THAN 1981 WINNER. Greetings from Spain.
Better than bucksfizz?.ithink not. Pretty girls but not a patch on Cheryl bakers legs
I adored this at the time certainly. Glad Bobby is singing with The Fizz.
0:36 me in the taxi room, end of the night after a skinful.
socks with heels, YEP welcome to the 80's
Min favorit det året
It deserved better than 6th to be fair. Bobby is a fine singer. Xxx
Had totally forgotten this... But it's great. Even though it was a strong year this should have won! Maybe Europe didn´t want another up tempo song from UK after Bucks Fizz.... Can´t figure out any other reason. And I'm a Swede...
Wonderful song.
So catchy. So Eurovision.
Carrie was especially cool.
We had a run of really strong foot-tappers in the ‘80s.
Some excellent bar stool choreography.
So catchy
just managed to get this on 7" vinyl last week(did originally have it in 83) still such a brilliant catchy song
I love this song... totally undervalued. Sure the ending is crap, but the melody and counterpoint of the bass... is awesome!
just heard this on cheesy fm, shazam couldn't find it :( great song, reminds me of Bardo's, One Step Further :D
Back when eurovision was great
wow it's very good
United Kingdoms best ESC-song👌
I Still love this song❣️🥰 🎶 🎵 🎶 👍🏼👏🏼🥰
great song. greetings from Spain
Guilty pleasure :)
This is the music!!!!
I am from the UK this should have been top 5 at least
It should have won.
Benjamin Christensen this, Israel, Yugoslavia, or Sweden
Vicky Tate Israel should have!
Best UK entry of all time in my opinion.
i was litlle child here in Portugal i think they should have won
it was a sad night to me :)
Wonderful
I need this on Spotify
Everything about this SCREAMS 1983! Also it can’t have been easy performing inside a giant toaster !
I always loved the setting ❤ and still do.
Thanks
This was UK Entry for the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest which was held in
Germany & won by Luxembourg,, our song finished in 6th position, it was awarded maximum points by Sweden
So catchy, saw Bobby with Former Bucks Fizz a couple of years ago at Let's Rock Exeter :D
Very better than the winners of 1981 Bucks Fizz and "Making your mind up"
Much better*...
@@nacht98 grammar nazi
Bobby McVay was in a reformed Bucks Fizz a few years ago with Mike Nolan, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston. They toured, including this track in their set, plus Making your mind up of course, and recorded a new album as The Fizz, called the f-z of pop, which did quite well. Bobby features on the singles Dancing in the rain, Up for the fight, Amen and Home for my heart. They’d known him for years anyway as he used to go out with their wardrobe girl. He left as he had to keep commuting from his home in Italy for gigs.
this is one of the best batch in eurovision but if they joined in 1981. they could easily won.
Good song.
A good start to the song, singing in Germany, your first lyrics are "Waaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
So 80s!
They sound much better live, the studio version has very weak vocals especially from Carrie in the middle, this shows her vocal ability far better.
Liked that song
Like most Eurovisions until rather recently, it was not shown in the US live, and only sometimes on tape. The song lives on though; Bobby McVay sings it these days with Cheryl Baker, Jay Aston and Mike Nolan from the UK's 1981 winner, Bucks Fizz, who are now known as The Fizz. Bobby does this here with Carrie Gray (now Grant) and Helen Kray.
lekker nummer
Wish dancing could return to the spontaneity of those days
This is one of the best UK entrees ever!
Thank goodness they had radio mics unlike the SFE,great song and performance.
This gives me very Mario & Sonic in the olimpic games vibes
I think this sounded and looked better than Bucks Fizz. Love from Greece.
yep, NDR usually repeat some ESC stuff during the ESC season in May. I think the video poster here used the BBC sound for the introduction and then switched to the NDR sound track for the song because it is in stereo. The 1983 contest was completely produced in stereo.
Yet starting at 2:50 the left channel sounds dull.
@@JayDeeIsMyName Could be the recording...
I don't remember this one...but it was rather good. Should have been a strong contender to win.
Have no memory of this song.. preferred days of the orchestra and own conductor
Una gran canción muy a la época, con aires de fama, buena coreografía y buenas voces.
I know people make fun of these sort of things, but it does take talent to do a great job singing while doing a complicated dance routine, especially involving chairs. I certainly couldn't :)
Fantastic song😍🎶🥳💯💞 can't get it out of my head👍 should have won💯
I loved this song so much
Pitch perfect this was. Fantastic. Should have won in 1983. We came 6th.
Yeah we was better than the actual winners.
that's correct ;)
The woman on the right looks like Gemma Atkinson
One of the UKs best entries.
How that came only tenth I’ll never know
They ranked 6th. Not 10th. There were no 10th that year because twice 9th.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest_1983
Plus those of us in the Repressed Catholic Schoolgirl Club agree that whoever was responsible for putting Bobby in those trousers deserves only good things.
As cathcy as hell remember this ss a 9 y.o, should have won.
The introducer of the singers sounds exactly like the introducer from the 1967 Eurovision introducer! Is it the same lady?!
isn;t this close to bucks fizz "my camera never lies" ?
This was British anime but if it was in live action but on Eurovision aka I love it!!!💙😁❤️
Did this classic song 🎵 from 1983 get put onto a compilation album ? I have never seen one if so . I thank god i have the 7 " inch vinyl 🙏.
So awesome! Why isn't this on Spotify?
I know right?? This song deserved to be on Spotify. The bass is my eargasm.
Kindaichi Shoutarou Totes! It makes my Europop playlist rather incomplete.
IDK why but that made me laugh..Thanks
thesun collective147 because it’s crap
The conductor looks like David Cameron's dad. And interesting early work from Carrie Grant there.
better than the winner!
Are you tone-deaf? :/
uhm for me that song fromYugoslavia is really good, and in any other year could be top-3, but in 1983 in my opinion, is a bit less good than the other 4 songs...1983 was a year with a lot of good songs!
Was carrie grant the singing guru in this band
0:40 : looks like the cameraman lost control of his engine 🙄😊😁
It's a catchy song. The male singer has a good voice.. I'm not that keen on Carrie's voice.
