I know it's been 2 years, but I just wanted to say that it sounds weird at the start because the song starts on the II chord naturally, which would normally be in Minor if the songs key is in Major, but when swapped to Minor, the II chord becomes diminished, making it a very dissonant (unpleasant to the ears) sound. Although it's not a chord playing, it's technically an arpeggiated B diminished chord, rather than what you normally hear; an arpeggiated B minor chord.
How to describe _Take On Me_ in Minor Key: Imagine having the best time of your life. Your friends and family are laughing and having a wonderful time. In fact, it's actually your Birthday Party. You go to the bathroom to relieve yourself, and suddenly you start to feel a weird sensation. You feel a slight pain in your chest, your breathing becomes very shallow. You can't speak because there isn't enough oxygen in your lungs to make a sound. The bathroom is upstairs, so no one can hear you struggling to breathe. You've come to realize.... you're having Heart Attack! Not only that, but it's happening on your Birthday. Of all days to have this occur, it had to be this one. A special day in which you celebrate the day you were brought into this world, now you're about to leave without so much as a goodbye. You begin to sink into a pitch black abyss, you see everyone you know from the party from underneath. You call out to them, but no one hears you. You've already crossed the threshold of death. You sink lower and lower, until they're nothing but a speck of light faintly shimmering from far above. You let you mind wonder as the abyss takes you, your eyes slowly begin closing.....The End.
This gives me the impression that the singer is fighting, keeping himself reassured with thoughts of getting back to his loved one, but in his heart he knows he's completely outmatched and is not going to get out alive.
This sounds like a small inconvenience slowly growing into a big unmanageable problem that is somehow seriously life threatening to you now and the more you struggle against it the worse it gets and slowly you realize it when you're inches away from death and can do nothing as you see your life slipping away.
