BTW something I saw on one of the dresses I bought and I have been doing on all my sequin fabric since then is taking some of the base fabric, about an inch in total and unpicking all of the sequins then adding that tube so the sequins don't dig into my arm. It's very small but really helpful.

Got to love Barbie. My niece's special needs daughter wanted a Barbie themed party for her 18th. Barbie pink was the theme colour, so I was able to purchase a pink shirt, and then made a vest using Barbie print fabric for the front, and a hot pink for the back. I had enough of the hot pink satin left to make a pair of long pants to finish the look.
Following your example, I made the same items Barbie sized so I had a matching doll to carry.
My neice was blown away, and her daughter immediately took the Barbie to add to her collection, grinning from ear to ear as she did so.
FYI I'm a 64 year old male, with the beard and body of Santa, so I certainly stood out.
One more costume to add to my collection that I properly will not get to wear again.

You never cease to amaze me! The way you jump into complicated drafting & piecing projects with temperamental fabrics and smile all the way through is beyond my skill on every level. You are very brave and amazing!
I subscribe to a channel (Victoria and Albert Museum) here on RUclips that posted a video today that immediately made me think of you. Remember the movie Moulin Rouge? They did a feature of Satine's Diamond Dress designed by Catherine Zuber for a stage production. She designed it for an on stage quick change & has one of the most clever front bodice closures I've ever seen. You literally pull out what looks like a single piece of covered boning at center front & the whole gown falls away to reveal a modern take on the costume. They give a really good close up of the mechanism & how it works. I thought you might be interested because you make some of your own stage clothes.

Thank you! And that quick change actually kind of sounds like the rig that Cinderella has in the production I'm part of. It's all released when she pulls a zip tie.

Really like this format, working on different projects simultanuosly and giving updates as you go, rather than having the whole garment in one go. Feels more 'real' - this is how we would experience a friends progress and I love the connection it creates!

4:15 you're just like me! haha! I did literally the same thing. I decided to buy Peaches and Cream Barbie and, like you, didn't realize how sought after she was. I ended up finding one that had been on display, never played with for $82. Everything else was either missing pieces, like the belt and stole, for around $50 and up, or brand new in the box for over $200. I don't make cosplay, but I make cabbage patch doll clothes. My latest was the Day to Night Barbie outfit.

I think one of my friends had Peaches & Cream Barbie (along with Malibu Barbie, etc). She was a Big Deal when I was about 7.
I've never been a fan of dolls, but it's cool to watch the problem solving process of how to go from an outfit on a nonhuman shape (Barbie is shaped like Barbie, LOL) to something which has the same look on an adult human. Cool.

  • @Siansonea

Oh yay! Barbie cosplay, I'm here for it. 😊
I am a longtime Barbie collector, and Peaches 'N Cream has always been popular. Even when 80s dolls in general were undervalued in the 90s and early 2000s, Peaches 'N Cream Barbie was always commanding higher than average prices for comparable dolls. Also, 1984 is PnC's box date, but she was part of the 1985 catalog year. I always go by catalog year, because oftentimes the box date is the year before or more than one year before (like if a box is reused for several years). I like to collect the retailer catalogs as well as the dolls so that I have a more complete understanding of each year's product offerings.

Absolutely my favorite Barbie of all time. I was going to ask if you're doing the stole too and very excited to see you! I had this doll when I was a little girl. I went to a Catholic grade school and the nuns talked about true charity and how you should give up what you really love, not just what is easy. And I tearfully put my treasured doll in the Xmas donation bin. My sister found one through a collector who was in a Barbie book and bought it for me. One of the best gifts I've ever received a friend later gave me one in box. Mattel did release a redo of the doll that could be cheaper to find.

I've wondered (for quite a while) if a bra would work with a corset. Seems to me, it would transfer some of the weight of the girls to my waist, and the deep craters from bra straps would be diminished.

That's what I do & especially my thread snips because I trim A LOT of my felting fuzzies with them. I'd not try it on my fabric scissors, at least I haven't but it might work there too while waiting for a professional sharpening. Looking forward to seeing your upcoming projects.

It looks really good. The thing you want to avoid is to have sequins anywhere near your skin. I bag line everything with sequins. and put binding at the arm holes and neckline. You are smart to add sleeves so your arms don't touch it. I ended up with friction rash on my inner arms the first time I wore anything with sequins.

  • @elizabethw.6154
    @elizabethw.6154 2 года назад +1

As an additional help, you could rip the sequins off the turned in seam allowances, so as to not shred your inner undergarments underneath it, since they won't show.

I have a very soft spot for Peaches n Cream Barbie because it was my second Barbie ever and definitely was the prettiest with the most accessories that I ever got. (Though I was probably too young; I still have the doll but she is absolutely TRASHED and missing everything except maybe a stole.)
I can tell you she never had a bracelet but she had single rhinestone earrings that matched her ring and she had a necklace made of clearish plastic with a single rhinestone for a pendant.

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions

I don't, at least for these, since I'm not technically working on them simultaneously. Like, I got Aurora to a point where she just needs the hem, hanging sleeves, and neck decoration. And then Barbie needs everything except the basic bodice. And I won't be going back to either of them till I finish Felicity.

I was thinking about the sleeve for Barbie. A goes really well with the ruffles. That might just work to cover things and still stay flowy. Just a thought. It would also disappear in her wrap pretty well too. It’s looking great. I don’t have my peaches and cream Barbie anymore. And my brother had ripped the over skirt off of mine when angry one day. Oh well. It’s fun to watch you remake her outfit though.

Good call on modifying the Aurora bodice when the one you tried first didn't want to play nice with that corset.
I hear you on the shifty fabrics, I was poking through the online store from which I got some fabric from for a christmas gift I made, and saw that very distinct fabric again... it wasn't cotton, it was rayon voile!! No wonder I couldn't cut or sew it in a straight line! At least the finished product is pretty, and I made the facings out of something far more sturdy (actual cotton!!)

It didn't hit me until this video, that I had THAT barbie! My mom made sure to toss all my barbie dolls/their stuffs, NKOTB Dolls too, when I was about 15ish, because I was getting "Too old" for them. I was so mad. I would probably still have them if I had my way. Somehow, MC Hammer survived(along with his boom box, which still works if I put batteries in it). Were my mom still here I would be sending her this video to say, see I told you it could be useful sometime! I would have gladly have sent you the dress/stole at the very least(not sure what barbie dolls survived my youth). Very few were left intact, especially into my teen years. That dress tear was in the exact spot and depth as mine, so seems a common rip point, due to stress or something.
On a side note, for the sleeves situation, You could make the stole attach to a bolero jacket with similar ruffle, worn together for public outings and (modesty) comfort (Hiding an Eye loop on the stole should be fairly easy, have the hook on the bolero to avoid scratchiness), or Detached and Stole only for professional photoshoots/Accuracy pics. Feel free to steal this Idea if you like it. Much Love, Thank you for the memory jog, I am smiling, happy.

Only suggestion for sleeves, to make them still look like "straps" but be more like sleeves it's making a very wide gathered strap that you can then pull over your shoulders. I know short sleeves aren't your thing but I wonder if you'll be as concerned with the shawl thing as you would be otherwise.
And just so you know, anyone who comments on your arms in any negative way can take a hike into a deep wood without a compass.

That was my childhood Barbie. I kept it until old age (and child play) destroyed it

Surprisingly, the reproduction doll goes for just as much as the original!

Sequins in the armpits SUCK. I wore enough tap costumes with sequins in horrible places in the 90's to verify that.
