Loved our old D9G , nothing like the feeling of getting the blade loaded and pulling that throttle ... Rumbles through your body as the torque builds and the earth moves !
I jus' luv' dis' type of dozer work! I grew up on ranch that needed grubbing of thick under brush and rocks. A good running CAT dozer makes a smooth & steady sound even when it's digging into the ground or pushing heavy materials.
I don't know if it's a generic thing or just peculiar to my own childhood memory. When I was watching this clip, it immediately brought to mind the very special smell of freshly-bulldozed earth... there is no similar association with the smell of other disturbed earth, such as excavated foundation trenches etc. Perhaps it simply related to the local site surface vegetation, but nevertheless, quite a strange yet happy experience, sitting here in my study 50 years later!
yes! Every time I smell freshly cleared soil it takes me back to when I was little and would go to work with my pap in the Backhoe! God do I miss those days!
Impressive looking older Cat D9G clearing land. Yes, the smell of freshly-bulldozed earth takes me way back to childhood on the farm, dad and his John Deere.
I never forget every time I see a D9G I think of my dad him driving and me sitting on the fuel tank. He would let me lower and raise the blade. Miss you Dad 😇😇🙏🙏
I grew up on a ranch, and my first experience on a dozer was when my uncle put me right next to him on the tool-box, and his words to me was "watch & learn".......well, I did "watch & learn" and that was when I was like 12yrs.old. Today I'm 63yrs.old, and a retired Construction Fleet Operations Supervisor and I wish my uncle was alive today, so he could've seen my career accomplishments, and it was all because of him!...I miss him so dearly, if it wasn't for him to be hard on me at times, I would've been just a regular ranch-hand, not saying it's bad, but, he thought that I could accomplish & further a career that would've been beneficially for me on the long-road in life.
Nice to see some old iron at work. This particular dozer has always made me feel nervous. Perhaps it's the fact that it was showcased as the evil machine in the cult classic movie, "Killdozer". Starring Clint Walker. Which, by the way, is available here on youtube. The D9 was big, but is rather poultry sitting along side it's much larger cousin, the D11T. Still, the D9 in this configuration, is very intimidating.......🔧🔧
I remember yrs years ago, when I'd make a pass clearing vegetation, or just the trees and grass, the Bird's loved it, didn't notice it til I looked back, there about at least a 100 or 200 getting bug's an worms, fast free meal
Kill Dozer? Clint Walker vs an out of control D9'er. Love this big kick ass machine. Serious power, torque. Can move heaven and earth. One quite literally. The sound of it is terrifying, but totally cool.🚜🚜🚜
You may want to considder a root rake for the blade. I pit one on my old international td8c and it is great for clearing fields and brush. You can leave way more dirt in the ground.
In 46 years, loaded many excavators and dozers on low beds, muddy tracks, icy deck you name it, never slid one off. Kills me when I see a video of a Dozer climbing on trailer with the blade high! Yikes!
Fabick Cat that Push Cat was a Mo. dozer @ 1 time. i live Just north of Memphis & my family used to buy some equipment from Fabick Cat in Mo along w/ Riggs in Ar. & Taylor Machinery NOW Thompson Cat since the early 90's when Thompson bought Taylor out .
Tip a 50 gallon drum of sump oil ; old dead batteries; worn truck tires anything that will burn on that heap throw a match in then happy days..Gets rid of pesky rubbish and replenishes the dangerously low CO2 levels we suffer from.
tdshaker, the machines are actually balanced better without a ripper. A D7G sucks with a ripper like that on the back because they at already too light up front.
too cool! i'm a second year automotive apprentice in victoria british columbia canada and have never seen anything like this! makes me want to switch to heavy duty!
Serious inquiry as you guys seem to have quite a collection of these old beasts, around this time next year, I hope to be puchasing a decent sized plot of land (20-40 acres) and would love to aquire a functional older cat as both a resto' project and workhorse. Nothing that large, maybe an old D4 with a "pony motor"? About how much would you be looking at pricewise, both for initial purchase as well as typical maintainance/upkeep on something like that?
Very good congratulations I am Gean Souza I live in Brazil and here there are many treadmill tractor, here in Brazil we call ourselves this machine valeu
Roll more dirt out of the brush. Bring it around and when you get close to the pile tilt the blade all the way over so the only dirt that's left is a little bit in the corner.
The whole premise of the high track design was to keep the drive sprocket out of all the dirt, sand, rocks, and such, thus reducing wear. Granted, as you said, the design cut down on the surface area of the drive sprocket in contact with the track itself. I believe that I read somewhere not to long ago that Cat was considering going back to the low track design in a few years.
Would you like to buy a good D9G like this? I have one with a rebuilt transmission and new Cat undercarriage. Selling because we don't have work for D-9s anymore. Otherwise, we'd never sell it.
I'm From Alberta, Canada. We want $45000 CAD for it. Genuine Cat undercarriage is $60000 here and it measures out to be only 4% worn. We rebuilt the torque and transmission within the last 100 hours and put $12000 in it. We actually rebuilt a D9H transmission for it which is better. It is a long ways to bring it but the exchange on the money would make it at least $10000 less in U.S. Dollars. This machine has had an easy life as it's only ever pulled a scraper for us and only ever pushed motor scrapers or pulled a scraper in its previous life. And we've never worked it on frozen ground.
Jack Nicholls they didn’t work that hard back in the day just pushing some brush and a little dirt. Plus doesn’t seem the guy operating knows how to clear that well anyways. We have a D11 and that bitch is monster
McGee TV I’d say this guy can get more work out of a D9 that a lot of operators can do with a D11. Don’t judge by the amount of throttle he’s got open.
Nonickname I couldn't agree more with you. Running them wide open and hard is hard on them. Let them work at their own pace, and they'll last a long time!
Loved our old D9G , nothing like the feeling of getting the blade loaded and pulling that throttle ... Rumbles through your body as the torque builds and the earth moves !
Overkill is underrated. He's doing all this at a high idle and not breaking a sweat.
I spent a good many hours operating a machine just like this one ,,,,brings back alot of memories , thanks for posting this !
Just rolling on idle and nothing stops it! Love it ❤❤❤
I worked construction for two years operating one of these, so fun, great memories, thanks for sharing!
You sir are a lucky man 👍🏻 What a nice machine the D9 is. Especially this one.
Music to my ears!!!!
That in line 6 made history!
love the power of a D9 looks in good shape!

Yep same here. It’s intoxicating in its own way.

They will never make Machines like this beauty anymore.
Period.

the older machines sound better than the new ones hahahaha in my book at least
What do you consider an older machine?
Kill Dozer?
Clint Walker vs an out of control D9'er.
Love this big kick ass machine. Serious power, torque. Can move heaven and earth. One quite literally. The sound of it is terrifying, but totally cool.🚜🚜🚜
It's just like the one that chased Clint around on that west African coast island.
Ahhh the D9...the Chuck Norris of dozers.
They have a unique sound all of their own.
You may want to considder a root rake for the blade. I pit one on my old international td8c and it is great for clearing fields and brush. You can leave way more dirt in the ground.
GREAT - like the short film
Now thats what I call a decent BBQ!

Those old dozers just look tough all you have to do is start them up and every thing in front of it gets out of the way!
Tip a 50 gallon drum of sump oil ; old dead batteries; worn truck tires anything that will burn on that heap throw a match in then happy days..Gets rid of pesky rubbish and replenishes the dangerously low CO2 levels we suffer from.
The old oil on pallets is the best.
@@johndemeen5575 yep but still needs a dozen or so burning truck tires in the bush on the other side of town to attract pesky fire nazi s
Looks and sounds like kill dozer
The big ol gentle giants of the forestry
Powerful dozer
Seems like they were just built better back then
awesome decelerater control. I didnt see a track slip one time.
My uncle used to have one... My dad had a 996c....still does! I love old caterpillar... Build to run forever
Treu , those things are metal gods compere these machines to the new ones, these machines Will run even over 50 hears from new
996 doesn't exist
@@thermidorlevrai65 . correct! I mean 966 c
In its day it's a work horse old but good
That rear mounted ripper attachment added stability to the machine, to equalize the weight, and allowed the machine to push better.
tdshaker, the machines are actually balanced better without a ripper. A D7G sucks with a ripper like that on the back because they at already too light up front.
She’s graceful 🇺🇸🍀🤙🏻
Dont yah just love to see the world changing (forever) before your eyes

Boy does anything stop that awesome machine? I could watch that all day long. It doesn't have a shiny blade so it must not be run much though.

Nothing beats the sound and smell of those old cats.Had and old D4 7u,presently own a D69U.

Good cat
Seems like those old cats rev so slow... sounds like its only at 1200 rpm lol
Well there at full hp output around 1500rpm back then
My old D7E is the same way.
Is it common to sell the trees or just burn? Have land I am looking to clear.
that's how u get things done
d353! still its roaring like its young!
Love Cats best dozers
How do I contact you about using a portion of your video in a nonprofit video?
Some old cats maxed out rpms at 800
Fernando
Big D9G?
How come nobody ever videos a small or normal size D9G?
Power!!
@oilerman9406 they do rev slow! some of those big old diesels will never pass 1200 or so rpm.
That thing is a hoss the largest dozer I've run was a D8K
Liked the movie
Did you not watch the whole video dude?
Barely working that monster.
@fishingcanada1 , Haven't seen that movie in about twenty years, horrible story line, great old iron footage.
Say,hows the salmon run this year ?
not much fun in an open cab when you come across a beehive though, dust sucks too, big nose nuggets.
@twal1011 The old highway belongs to the land owner who we do dirt moving or tree pushing jobs for.
Looks environmentally sound
Love the old de4sign. The chain is wrapped 3/4 away on the drive sprocket. On the new dozers, only 1/4. Lame Cat, very lame.
The whole premise of the high track design was to keep the drive sprocket out of all the dirt, sand, rocks, and such, thus reducing wear. Granted, as you said, the design cut down on the surface area of the drive sprocket in contact with the track itself.
