The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.
Nice hat. I saw a lot of those during my two tours in the Nam!!
Were they VC 😂
love this
Hahaha
Did you like getting your ass kicked by the vietnamese?
Will Rogers god bless u sir and thank u for ur service
Loving your signature hat 🥳👍
Love your channel bro just got into kayak fishing 2 months ago caught my first halibut last weekend, 47 inches 40 pounds unreal experience, I’ve been told it’s all downhill from here hahaha
Fresh caught mackerel is some of the best tasting fish i'm so jealous .
So good!!!
A very well done fishing video! Your perseverance is above and beyond! Also, your narration is what makes me keep coming back for more. May your Karma keep growing!
I remember fishing on the marin coast and farallons back in late 90s early 2000s we caught these "horse mackerals" that were like 2-6lbs and fought great. never ate them but I bet they would be really good.
I’m from Southern California but my family lives in Spain and I fish for horse mackerel all the time there. They taste pretty strong but they’re really good. Maybe they’re different in the Atlantic than the pacific 🤷♂️
Great video! Thanks again for putting in the time for your video. I’m fishing through your videos, just healing from a knee replacement.
Stay safe.
I have caught some mackerel that large in Southern California fairly often. I do like eating them, as long as they are bleed well. Cut Mackerel works good as well.
Make cooking video showing us what you do with Mackerel👍🏽👍🏽😊
That's why a net is a better option than a gaff . Gaffs and cramped quarters and a rocking boat are asking to get impaled .
From SD. Fishing NorCal looks so much funner. Love your channel, love all your videos. Especially the hat u rockin
More catch and cooks! Congrats on the great looking fish.
Good call not gaffing a questionable size fish even if its close, there are more out there.. Mackerel is good eating, in the carribean there called king mackerel or spanish mackerel and they're giants.
U can gaff a fish in the mouth and it’s fine. Just like putting any fish on a stringer.
marcus larwa uh nah, don’t be a kook
what i dont get is if hes in a akayak why not just use a net
@@marcusevonblade2804 Nets are great on the smaller halibut but it appears Adam was looking for a bigger halibut than 23 inches and just decided to give this one a second chance,. A thinner male halibut at 23 inches would weigh around 5 lbs or so, no big deal sending them back with the limited 3 fish limit.
@@marcuslarwa9098 Sometimes you just let a few small keepers go as part of the process. On the water we set 25 inches as out min size given the 3 fish limit on Calif halibut.
Here in Scotland Atlantic mackerel (Scomber Scombrus) are highly regarded as a food and as a bait fish. They are gaining yet more popularity as it it more widely advertised that they have twice the Omega 3 oil of salmon. We like them fresh, smoked, salted or made into pate. They also make a very good bait for crab or prawn creels.
Nice macks! I love those things. Great fun on light tackle. Super healthy too, loaded with omega 3s and no heavy metals. Butterflied and grilled w/salt and pepper, citrus, and olive oil--oh man good stuff.
I wish you lived in Carlsbad, I’d pay you to go out and fish 😂 Great videos and thanks so much for doing what you do bro!!!
*CRAZY* those are really good roasted, to counter act the fishy flavor, try adding ponzu or other citrus. Definitely score the skin a bit, not too deep but just through the skin. I noticed that you didn’t have a pool noodle on your rod. Taku is definitely getting the hang of the kayak it’s cool to see you guys linking up
You rule Die Hard! Do you mind plugging the rod and reel combo you recommend? Preferably the one "lucky" rod that catches you all those monsters. Thanks man.
Wholly mackerel literally Adam . Was thinking serious Thresher shark bait and it is sorta that time of year for them to start showing up. A nice 6-7 foot thresher would be a epic catch off Nor cal waters on a Kayak.
Also forgot to say the boys tossing the big plugs at Sea cliff have scored some big stripers. Not sure if you remember Kenny from when you were younger fishing Sea cliff, he has scored both a 36 and a 40lb striper this year!!
Might be a dumb question being I am an east coast fisherman, but why not net a questionable size fish?
exactly my thoughts.....
Probably didnt think of it
I find the smaller mackerel are the better eaters. Filleted, rolled in plain flower and lightly fried all as soon as possible after catching as they are not the same too long out of water or frozen.
I caught a few big macks a couple weeks ago out in moss landing before catching a hali.
Dude this was awesome. Good on you for not gaffing that butt. I’m planning a road trip your way soon, maybe we can go out and fish together 🤙🏻
What a beauty of a place .. well done on the pieces
Grilled mackerel is amazing!
Digging the new hat Adam!
To the 1% of people that see this have a wonderful night, stay safe and be grateful for everything in life. 👏
Sashimi mackeral ; good eating ! 😀
Wholly mackerel! What's up with the straw hat? You looked like a rice farmer! Lol! Nice catch and video, Adam! Mackerel are delish!
I think people forget how big mackerel used to get in the UK before they were overfished. The rod caught records from boat and shore were both over 6lbs. As a teenager in the late 60s I caught a 3lb 9oz mackerel on a trout spinning rod. Most of the mackerel now are well under 1lb in weight.
That is a nice Maciral Really nice video. Are usually freshwater fish but watching a saltwater fishing video was really cool. Keep it up
Okay Adam add the hats you your merch and I’m all over at least one!! 😜
Great call, not gaffing the fish, but... ya gotta net, swinging back there in tha breeze..lol
I like your Vietnamese hat. Nice mackerel.
Good catch and good call Adam!
As you can tell by the bamboo hat he wearing. A true Vietnamese Fisherman 👍🙏👏. Nice catch. Congrats! Bro
Sometimes u need to give some back to get some good fish karma. That Mackarel is such an under rated fish. Tastes so amazing and not too bony as well. Tight lines brah!!!
I agree!!!
Mackeral and halibut that's some dream fishing right there .
Hahaha your hat selections are on point!
Always love sashimi Mackerel! Way to double down on them! Spanish Mackerel are my favorite. But any will do. Good stuff.
New sub btw! Thanks for the killer content!
Appreciate the support, thanks for watching!
I saw a handful of good sized fish jumping out of the water at Pacifica Pier on Wednesday, but I didn't know they were mackerel until my dad sabiki'd one up. I didn't think they got so close to shore! There have been a lot of bait fish (anchovies) near shore the last week, so I guess it makes sense that even slightly larger predators like mackerel are chasing them too.
Yeah, Taku set the Bar WAY too high for me now for catch and cook. I don't eat clams or heck much fish but he's made me change my mind. And I'm in freakin east coast. U guys are so lucky to be so close to the ocean with so much fish. Enjoying every minute of em. 👍
I love Mckerels too , good fish for fish stew
Nice fatty mackerel to start off your day. Shiyo yaki Saba (Salt Broiled Mackerel) one of my favoritest things to eat. Just add grated daikon radish, and hot steamed rice on the side.
I'm with you on the Mackerel buddy! Great eating fish.
Oh hell, he's gone hat on us. Getting super-serious now!
Would a wearing a sombrero out on the yak be offensive?
@@SpamMusubi308 It's 2020, of course it is
@@sydthegoat88 yeah figured as much just thought I'd check I was hoping to get a hat thing going like a top hat or bowlers guess not thanks Syd
Nice Hali. Hey man, Tuck the rod under your left arm, it will make a world of difference in the power you have on the rod. You don’t want it tucked in the elbow of your reeling elbow
You should get some bogu grip or fish lip grippers for potential short fish you don't want to gaff.
Smoked mackerel my favorite
Just saw Taku's video u guys are dope
I don’t understand why you strip line.
You should come down to dana point! We have been catching like HUGE Mackerel, even caught a 4 pounder!!!!!!!! It was INSANE and fought extremely hard!
wow those are huge macks!
Could have passed that off as fishing around Hong Kong with that excellent hat
Love mackerel I go tomorrow good job bro
It's all in the hat brother. Nice...
Addicted to your videos! May I ask what kayak you are using? Thanks! Be safe , keep up the awesome videos!
What a true sportsman - nice call on anything questionable!
I just started seriously halibut fishing. Love your stinger rig video!
Beautiful spots on that fish
Adam A very different location from many of your last launches ...north shore aspect was not the same. Maybe that's big Mak territory? 8 hours in a yak?
You should use the big makerel for bait and the smaller ones for dinner.
Loving the attire
Thx for the vid bro mackarel are good eating fish imo.🤙🏿
That hat is like a parachute in the wind!
Great video and I'm digging that hat.
I caught one at crab cove before
Nice halibut! Haven't eaten Mackerel... think I'll pass and keep using em as bait. Big ones... ah... I spose they'll just get released. Thanks for posting Adam!
We have ca halibut here in oregon theres no size limit her and your allowed 25 a day
Is that where the saying, *Holy Mackerel"* comes from?? Hahaha
Loved the Mackerel fishing..
Hahaaha, I was laughing when you said the halibut that got away, was about 22 inches.. Im willing to bet a certain someone, with a name similar to a month 😉🤣🤣 would have said that was easy 30 plus inches 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for taking us out..
That 4 hr drive back, NOPE! I woulda shot my flare and asked for a tow, ahhaa
Is there AAA for boats that are stranded in the water? 🤔
There is something similar to AAA its called towboat us, or you wait for the coast guard, or you can also call a fellow boater, most people who are fishermen and see a stranded boat they'll help them out, you will find a douche every now and then lol
The baits look like awesome dinner to me
WE CALL BIG MACKRELL RUNNERS. BEST FOOD.
Those are little mackerel’s. I’ve caught Bigger & I have not seen any bigger then what use to be on the water before . I guess they are taken home young !
Cool hat.
Thats funny cuz I didn't see you toss anything back like you say you did.. and all of a sudden it was a keeper.....lol 😆 🤣 😂
"raiden goes fishing"
Shime Saba! Grats on 40k subs
What type of fishing you have brand name and the length!!! Is it good for casting too sorry for asking
Those size Mackerel is fun to catch on lite tackle
Sweet video!!! That rod is always so deceiving lol between the heavy weight, the natural bend from you trolling and or the weight of a fish it’s always doubled over 💀💀 good rod
Thanks for watching!
Love that Monterey bay great place to fish
We catch 25 inch mackerel here in Florida
I live about four hours away from the East coast of the Carolina beaches are those the same as our Spanish macro
The east coast mackerel tastes alot better.
Another great video!
Excellent content 💗💗❤
Mackerel is awesome!!!
I love catching and eating mackerels. They are so fun and strong if you have 3 or 4 of them. Is this Monterey or santa Cruz? Thanks Adam for sharing. Safe fishing.
I hit them yesterday. Had 5 on at one time
i love mackerel, wish i had some. a bit oily though.. yummy. put some on my plate, lol
SABA! If you notice my handle, that's one of my long time favorite fish long to catch.
Nice Hat👍
Love your channel.. wishing you continued success. Was curious where you get your frozen squid. Did you catch it or store bought?
Tight lines
Godbless always 😁😁 Master happy fishing trip I always watching your videos from Philippines
