fun fact, it's actually fairly common to feel attracted to relatives if you don't know they're your relatives. that's why you see so many stories about two adopted people who are/about to get married finding out they're closely biologically related. the theory behind it is that separating siblings at birth (or at a very young age) forecloses the Westernarck Effect, which is responsible for desensitizing sexual attraction to biological relatives and makes you vomit at the thought of sleeping with your sister
I've read that they mistake their familial connection with love. You meet someone, just "klick", everything fits and you're great together, it's like you've always known each other, etc. Those feelings are natural between biological family, but are easy to confuse with romantic love if you don't know where they're actually comings from. Now just add the effect you've mentioned.. Yeah makes sense why it happens so often.

Woman said foster father was nice but foster mother had mental issues, drank, and abused them. Confirmed by a priest.

that's the most realistic reaction i have ever seen in a law and order episode. usually it's the opposite which is more f'ed up. him tossing his cookies, is the most realistic response to have. i actually hate when they all act like this is ok and walk off. this kid, is the best actor ever with the most endearing response. he's one of the first legitimate human beings i have seen on a law and order episode.
The teen / kid actors on this show always blew me away - this one I remember watching the night it aired. Also for every over the top angry Stabler moment - he had moments like this that made him one hell of a cop.
Personally, I think the only true victims in this case is actually the children cause they have to suffer because of their parents lies, particularly the son, the daughter and the other son. And most of the blame goes to the father.
Well it seems to happen more then we think about, from guys needing some extra cash and go to a sperm bank to husband /wife cheating because they are not getting the attention(love) from there spouses.
Midsommer Murders did it too :) There's an episode of a woman and a man who find out they are siblings before their marriage. She ends it but he turns to the Gods to find consent from the deities to love her and marry her - He gets shot by an arrow It is definitely not a new concept at all :) It's very real and honestly a scary thought.
While Aidan's reaction learning that his girlfriend was his half-sister was understandable to be fair both of them were ignorant to the fact that they were blood-relatives, this all the fault of their father.
8:07 - the weight in Stabler's voice when he says 'I believe you' is so awful because he knows, as the audience does too, that he is about to drop a nuclear warhead on this poor kid's whole life
I find it kinda funny that they immediately jumped to the conclusion that Jason was the same person as Barry rather than Ms. Coyle cheating on her presumably distant husband. I mean they were right, but that’s one of hell of an assumption to make
The kid who played Aiden was good because i remembered this episode specifically because I couldn't watch the clip of him finding out she's his half sister again 💔
"Do whatever you want with him" is NOT the reaction of a mother who just saw her murdered daughter's body. My mum lost her daughter, killed age 20 so I KNOW how it is. She then lost her son. There's just me now.
Everyone talking about Aiden and yes he is going through alot but no one is talking about the other boy who is also a victim he was accused by his own mother to be in an incestual relationship with his deceased sister and that she was pregnant. The poor boy didnt only lost his sister but also falsely accused of such horrible things he now knows he has another sibling and his mother is a monster who sacrificed all 3 in order to save herself I am assuming she was the one who killed the guy and even her own daughter??
This episode has some of the best acting out of the whole SVU series! From the mother to Aidan and the extras in general, everyone was on their A game for this one!
One notable aspect of this particular episode is that it had tow big-screen movie stars appear in it - Jane Seymour and Helen Slater (I got to meet her at an Armegeddon Expo show a some years ago as she was one of the guest stars there,, I was struck by how beautiful she's in person also according to her I was the first fan to ask about her SVU appearance).
One of the CSIs had an episode where a teenage couple got pregnant only to find out they had the same dad who was living a double life. The teenagers killed him when he demanded they abort.
I can't believe that the mom knew and then freaked out at her son like that and was willing to throw him away and let him take the blame wtf also gross just omfg
Patrick John Flueger's performance was stellar in this episode. Not only his reaction to finding out his girlfriend was his sister, but at the end just the subtle nuances of his facial expressions when the realization hit that he has a brother and what that entails. Interesting that Stabler told Aiden he was the only one his brother had left, when really it was Brian who was the only one Aiden had left.
Imagine being the brother, being accused of getting your sister pregnant - knowing FULL WELL you didn't do it - and having your own mother not believe you
The only thing I can think when I see situations like this is why weren't they more honest with the children in almost every movie or book I read are watch the central Factor that brings about all the tragedies starts with a lie, every time the lie could be as simple as I took a walk in the park but that small little lie always creates an opening for which evil can come
There are also cases in which a fertility doctor secretly impregnates dozens of women. Netflix had a documentary on it (“Our Father” 2022), and one of the L&Os had an episode on it.
I'm not sure if it was based on real life, but I remember a TV movie probably in the 90s in which Melissa Gilbert played a mother impregnated by a fertility doctor. Her son and one of the doctor's children both had Lazy Eye Syndrome and that led to his being found out.
In that kinda situation, you pretty much become dead on the inside. To lose your father and girlfriend are one thing, but finding out your girlfriend is actually your sister and she was pregnant would just make you wanna kill yourself out of shame.
Patrick Flueger is from Red Wing, MN which is were I'm from too! He and my sister went to school together, but she graduated 2 years earlier than he did. I never knew him but I was friends with his younger brother, grew up in the same neighborhood. I do hope to meet Pat one day.

I knew a woman who got brutally raped by her older brother. I think he was 17, she was 13-14. Ruined her life. He went prison, now lives in NH. I dont think she knew who her father was. Pretty sure she had native indian in her. So probably from small local tribe. They were in foster care, mother gave them up. Woman said foster father was nice but foster mother had mental issues, drank, and abused them. Confirmed by a priest.
@@jsas2047gee I hope this means that this woman Ive loved for 20 years, never any relationship between us, isnt my daughter!! She doesn't know who her father is.
that's the most realistic reaction i have ever seen in a law and order episode. usually it's the opposite which is more f'ed up. him tossing his cookies, is the most realistic response to have. i actually hate when they all act like this is ok and walk off. this kid, is the best actor ever with the most endearing response. he's one of the first legitimate human beings i have seen on a law and order episode.
Aidan is played by Patrick Flueger, who also plays Adam Ruzek on Chicago PD if anyone's wondering
I liked him in the 4400
The actor playing Aidan-WHAT a performance!! EXCELLENT!
The actor playing Aiden was terrific. His expressions changes were actually scarily accurate.
So this is the father’s fault cause he lied about having a second family?
And Shanon’s mother
Yeah, it is. And Shannon's mother.
@@michaelcollins2030 Yep.
@@leeammorris1268 yeah she was a piece of work. Especially when she wasn't upset that the dad killed Shannon.
@@1talldaddy or when they
Thought her younger son raped Shanon
Even then didn’t tell the truth And tried to
Attack him
9:05 aidan actor performaned really good. His facial expression captured his emotion well
The guy probably didn’t know that she was his half sister and watching him cry is sad
The acting in this last scene deserves all the dang awards!
Brother/sister unwittingly dating each other must be a trope by now. In House MD, among other places.
Well it seems to happen more then we think about, from guys needing some extra cash and go to a sperm bank to husband /wife cheating because they are not getting the attention(love) from there spouses.
Look at Flowers in the Attic, and unfortunately that's a trope.
Midsommer Murders did it too :) There's an episode of a woman and a man who find out they are siblings before their marriage. She ends it but he turns to the Gods to find consent from the deities to love her and marry her - He gets shot by an arrow
It is definitely not a new concept at all :) It's very real and honestly a scary thought.
@@Loveless0012 Don't forget the OG Oedipus, and most myths about gods.
@@mevan883 Naturally! I was just going with movies :D
There is so much to life, myths, legends and religions
Poor aiden,…he didn’t know,….the terrible news hit him like an arrow on his chest.
While Aidan's reaction learning that his girlfriend was his half-sister was understandable to be fair both of them were ignorant to the fact that they were blood-relatives, this all the fault of their father.
Their mother too, lol.
8:07 - the weight in Stabler's voice when he says 'I believe you' is so awful because he knows, as the audience does too, that he is about to drop a nuclear warhead on this poor kid's whole life
Phenomenal acting by the guy who played Aiden.
The actor who played Aiden was so good that I had to go watch the entire episode and let me tell you, that was a doozy. Fantastic acting all around.
1. That boy is going to need therapy, a lot of it.
2. His dad has some explaining to do.
His dad is dead bruh.
I find it kinda funny that they immediately jumped to the conclusion that Jason was the same person as Barry rather than Ms. Coyle cheating on her presumably distant husband. I mean they were right, but that’s one of hell of an assumption to make
So wait she never had a husband ?
@@sharnagrayson9649 no since they would probably caught trying to commit bigamy
Ive always been confused about this!!!
I don't think they meant there was no Barry at all. Just that Barry had nothing to do with the murder or the fetus.
This confused me too! Anyone care to explain 🙈🙈
I never forget the performance of the kid who finds out his girlfriend was his sister it was crazy good💀😭😭
The kid who played Aiden was good because i remembered this episode specifically because I couldn't watch the clip of him finding out she's his half sister again 💔
The adults in this episode ruined the teens lives. .
"Do whatever you want with him" is NOT the reaction of a mother who just saw her murdered daughter's body. My mum lost her daughter, killed age 20 so I KNOW how it is. She then lost her son. There's just me now.
Jesus christ that last scene... Thats a LOT of information to absorb in a 10 second span. 😂
9:37 Yeah that’s pretty much how I imagined he’d react, bad luck buddy
Everyone talking about Aiden and yes he is going through alot but no one is talking about the other boy who is also a victim he was accused by his own mother to be in an incestual relationship with his deceased sister and that she was pregnant. The poor boy didnt only lost his sister but also falsely accused of such horrible things he now knows he has another sibling and his mother is a monster who sacrificed all 3 in order to save herself I am assuming she was the one who killed the guy and even her own daughter??
This young actor is excellent. What a fucking nightmare.
Yeah therapy for life for that boy. That’s a lot of trauma to go through.
Both brothers
“Okay, 🪛 You, you’re under arrest…” 😂
it's giving "we got this guy, Not Sure" from idiocracy XD
Still some of the best acting on TV!
In the earlier seasons the actors were so good, like the young man right here
I can't believe that the mom knew and then freaked out at her son like that and was willing to throw him away and let him take the blame wtf also gross just omfg
He find out she was his sister they have the same father.
Adam Ruzek from Chicago PD plays Aidan here, guy is a really good actor.
I’ve never felt worse for a fictional character than I currently do for Aidan
Patrick John Flueger's performance was stellar in this episode. Not only his reaction to finding out his girlfriend was his sister, but at the end just the subtle nuances of his facial expressions when the realization hit that he has a brother and what that entails. Interesting that Stabler told Aiden he was the only one his brother had left, when really it was Brian who was the only one Aiden had left.
Well that took a sharp turn 💀💀
Man Aiden’s actor was so good he had me crying 😭😂
I really liked Olivia's short haircut as IMO it really suited her.
The parents were awful for lying about all of this. This could have all been avoided if they weren't so selfish.
This kid should have won award. Truly amazing actor he is. All the young people are that are on this show. Bravooooo 👏👏👏👏
SVU has the most fucked up episodes and I cannot stop watching them 😂
That kid was phenomenal in this episode. To find out your gf is your sister and was having your kid….
That would wreck my existence.
A good relationship became toxic relationship
A heartbreak love
Oh wow. This acting was phenomenal. I'm sitting here crying
Imagine being the brother, being accused of getting your sister pregnant - knowing FULL WELL you didn't do it - and having your own mother not believe you
No amount of therapy is going to fix Aiden
Awwe that’s so sad :( 9:15 omg his acting 💔
The only thing I can think when I see situations like this is why weren't they more honest with the children in almost every movie or book I read are watch the central Factor that brings about all the tragedies starts with a lie, every time the lie could be as simple as I took a walk in the park but that small little lie always creates an opening for which evil can come
That actor who played Aiden was incredible!
The actor that plays Aiden is so dang cute though.
Heartbreaking performance by the actor who played Aiden. I fully believed his shock and pain.
This episode was insane…I know years later House had a similar episode.
I hope the Coyle family won't left without heirs.
All these years and this episode is what gets me to me the most
This would have made a great episode of Jerry Springer.
This episode made me say OMG a thousand times
Where can I watch full episodes for free doe❓
Yeah, me too OMG!!, good thing I never got married and had any kids!!
Aiden’s actor was AMAZING. The lip tremble, the slow break down, all of it.
So does that mean Shannon’s mother lied about who her father is?
If police would tell me that "Your daughter is dead. Also she was pregnant, oh and one of her relatives is the father" I would probably kms.
Maury: Our DNA results show..... You ARE the Brother!
I miss Stabler. So much!
Who blames Aiden for throwing up? Because I don't
OMG, when the dog pounced I was not expecting it to be the start of THAT iconic episode of SVU where Olivia says this famous line!!!
Great acting by the actor who played aiden
Favorite episode ever. So messed up. Season 5 episode 15 “families”
So many people are like this episode is so good. Didn't tell me they episode. Thank you for understanding what the comment section is about.
This was one of the saddest Law and Order episodes that I have ever watched.
"Name?"
"Screw you"
"Screw you, you're under arrest"
Love the sprinkles of comedy in a tense moment
A therapist could buy a gulf stream with the amount of work he's going to need...
Patrick Flueger is from Red Wing, MN which is were I'm from too! He and my sister went to school together, but she graduated 2 years earlier than he did. I never knew him but I was friends with his younger brother, grew up in the same neighborhood. I do hope to meet Pat one day.
