I remember getting this on launch (PAL) and seeing the online banner at the bottom of the case hoping that there was online play. Sadly not for us PAL people, I've recently played it online and unlocked a different red safety car.
Playing with the official dreamcast steering wheel so glad can change the sensitivity
Great mini review
Oh link to daytona USA 25 years in video description isn't working
Thanks dude! Cheers for the heads up about the non-working link in the description, it should be working now. That's cool that you've recently got to play it online for the first time!
@@MrThunderwingno problems seeing as alot of traffic (get it racing reference) will be heading this was for your video thought I might give you a heads up. If you want a DreamPi to get your Dreamcast online, I'll be happy to pop one in the post for you
@@Itsmuchmore Ha, traffic, see what you did there 😀
That's a very kind offer with the DreamPi there my man, but in all honesty my actual Dreamcast has been in storage for years now, I don't think I've even got a way to plug it into any of the SCART socket-less TVs I own now. My very (very - like once every 2 years) occasional dip into PS3 online Daytona games scratches that particular itch for me.

All we wanted was blocky cars, 60 fps, and no clipping with original everything. The handling and 00s cheese voices ruined it.
Handling can be improved a lot in settings
Great mini review once again Mr Thundering 😊
I think it's about this time of year you organised a Daytona USA PS3 online battle again. slowtrain 👍
Thanks man! Initial Dale's taking the lead on organising a game now, there's possibly something occurring this month. Your best bet is to check the Discord link in the video description of the Daytona video I published earlier this week (I'm a member, but I don't really ever use Discord myself).
@MrThunderwing It is the "Hornet" but I wanted it to look more like the blocky original.
They got Dreamcast back online years ago using a Raspberry Pi to interface with the modem and route traffic through modern internet. They have been working on restoring games for years. The project is called DreamPi. I haven't checked since the plandemic started but it looks like they finally got Daytona USA 2001 back online, thanks for tipping me off!
I only played online once or twice before SEGA shut the servers down back in the day. Someday I need to get a Dreampi setup or see if I can play with people online using an emulator. I was generally happy with the game after choosing the right tires and sensitivity.
Noooooooooo we can't leave the 32 bit Era behind
As a fellow PD University member, I thought I'd stop by to see what other members were doing.
Greetings!
My only complaint is that they did not have the original Hornet. It should have been there at least as an unlockable car.
@@agent109g8 ...? The original Hornet is playable right from the start. No unlocking required.
Any thoughts on the Daytona 2 port in the new Like a Dragon game?
I haven't actually played it. I haven't played any of the other Yakuza games, so I'm not really desperate to get it. By all accounts the version of Daytona 2 I can play in Supermodel is superior (wheel support, FFB, widescreen option, multiplayer, live cam network). I might pick up the Yakuza game at some point, but I'll probably wait until it's on sale.
It’s £32 for the steam version on CDkeys at the minute. Better than £45 on steam itself.
I'd probably just get the PS4 version.
Well, the only version, I have nothing bad to say (including original arcade) is the Xbox 360-version, on Series X. Don't have it on PS3 or - 5,so cannot say about them. But on Series X, they have "fixed" the only thing I had bothering me. Anisothropic filtering on road. On Series X, I think it's 16X. It's perfect.
Without redoing the whole thing, this is it.
That's fantastic and it took it's bloody time!
Hey thunderwing; i saw a video about the hyperarcade systems hdd for all the emu a guy could want; do you have one and do you recommend it? Looks amazing! Thx
I've never heard of it I'm afraid Scott mate, I couldn't tell you anything about it.
No worries thanks!
La meilleure version de Daytona Usa 1. Il manque juste un mode 4 joueurs en écran partagé ainsi que l'usure des pneus sinon c'est parfait.
Infogrames instead of AM2.
Not impressed.
All that extra fluff and content, but no original handling, original audio or original Arcade mode.
Infogrames were one of the joint publishers, but the game was still an in-house development by the Sega AV team led by Toshihiro Nagoshi (the lead developer of the original Daytona). I think the Infogrames/Hasbro thing is literally only there because of some NASCAR license issues or something like that. As I mentioned in the video, the handling is actually pretty damn close to the arcade if you use a wheel.

Yes. A huge error, along with the missing Model 3 ports.
If Namco did that with Ridge Racer, they likely wouldn't have gotten to the 8th game.
If Burnout was that way, we'd likely have stopped at the first game, as it would have flopped. Burnout 3 / Revenge / Dominator / Legends & Paradise under EA, likely wouldn't have happened.
I can only imagine what would have happened, if Forza on the Xbox, and Gran Turismo on the PlayStation were near unplayable with a pad, before the PS3/360 days of online updates.
MS/Sony would likely have reissued the game to fix it.
It's simply a massive failure by Sega, unfortunately.
It's nice that it can be rectified if a wheel can be found, or hoops jumped through using emulation.
The company was in a death spiral - no quality control. Poor management.
A tragedy - it really was.
