This is a really cool build. I made a giant Connect 4 for my wedding in August. For cutting the holes I marked out the centers of each hole and used a 6" hole saw (that was used for making Corn Hole). And just used a simple bar in the bottom to insert and remove to play. It went a little awry when my discs (cut with a 7" hole saw) didnt line up perfectly with my holes the farther up the board they went.
Super cool build, Jonathan~! I've seen others built, but this one rocks. You mentioned adding bolts along the edges. Maybe contrasting color dowels instead? I know it's just a game, but I think a few darker color dowels would be a cool accent. Just my 2 cents worth. :-)
Love the video. Was thinking about building one and like your design. For those that live near an Ikea the trivets are half the price in store compared to amazon.
As you say, woodworking is about fixing your mistakes. For the solid wood pieces to this build that twisted after milling before you could continue, what did you do to fix it? Did you end up with smaller parts, glue new strips and remill or some fancy steam treatment and bend to your will? Also thought I'd suggest that it would be nice to add to your plug for Bits&Bits that the code is ONCE per account. I didn't go whole hog on my first order since I wanted to try out the astra coating, but now that I want more I got to be creative if I want the benefit of the discount again.
thank you Katz . i had a bit drop out of my router , was not used that much ( got it in 74-76 some where in there ) i pulled the collet out and it was dirty lol go figure i have not had a need to use it yet but i am guessing that fixed it oh and i had not used it that much at the time
I had a Makita trim router that was new, throw a roundover bit on me. The bit was new and clean. The collet was clean too because I'm overly meticulous about keeping clean tools. Additionally, I know that I seated it and tightened it too. I was uncomfortable using that router again. I actually purchased a festool OF1400 later on and was happy that I did. The collet design on the festool is immensely better and you can see that it seemingly 'bites' into the shank of the bits better. I fully understand that festool is polarizing for people because of price. I'm not going to argue that point. Mechanically, it's a better router. It's a little big for delicate work but there are smaller routers from festool. Be warned that if you like it, your attention will mostly shift toward that brand of tools. Pricey, yes. Minimal dust, better design, and no fiddling to make the tool perform at 100%; it's all you at that point. Go find a brick and mortar retailer that stocks festool and ask to test the tool. Be sure to remove the nut and collet to examine how the splines press firmly into the shank. I promise you that it's impressive, even if you decide against the purchase. Anyway, I'm glad you didn't get hurt. It's scary as hell to watch a carbide bit fly out at cutting rpm. Stay safe and keep on building.
Great work. Do you recommend that Triton router? I need a new one and looked at that one. Or do I need to just save up for the festool? Thanks for the advise.
No! Hahahaha that thing is a beast and I have two. I hate them for up and down accuracy but they have a ton of features like micro adjust and a beast motor that allows monster passes. It has about an eighth inch of play up and down and good luck with the locking knob not vibrating loose every couple of months. I love the dewalt I was using for everyday stuff and it's only 200 bucks.
Really cool build Jonathan! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 ......🤔 ... Perhaps the T's and P's Chad was thinking about were Toilet and Paper, that would explain you resulting in a wipe out! 🧻😁
my router bit did that when I was flattening my workbench. Scared the living bajeesus out of me and also costed me a foot of my bench. I'm not sure how new the router is that you used but the one that slipped on me was pretty new and I couldn't get myself to trust it again after I fixed it and it did it a second time. I no longer use it.

Real Nice!
Love the philosophy of "being a woodworker is not to be the best, but to fix your mistakes"
Thanks bud! Words to live by

I’ve built 2 of these in the past and I’m kicking myself for not doing the release mechanism like yours. Definitely the beat I’ve seen. Great job.
Jono - omg, clear easy to understand instructions,!!! and positive recommendations !?! cheers bro #1
AM I the only one who noticed Sandy already won!?
I've been using those pistol grip rattle can thingies since the late 80's. You're one of the first people I've seen use one on the tube of you's.
Great invention
Great video. I made one with the hole saw method and fried two batteries and a corded drill. The router is definitely the way to go.
It’s my first time playing this
Cool project and the music was awesome
AMAZING IDEA BRO
I DID MINE BUT IT WAS 4'7
IT WENT AMAZING

Awesome !!! I wanted to make one of these for my wedding reception, it looks like a lot of fun, I just ran out of time. :/
Thanks for sharing!!
Foam floor mats, colored already
Bed rail slide in connectors on the sides for flat storage
Very informative and entertaining...as always! Thanks for sharing.
Dude, that thing is excellent!
Thanks Dan the man
Sandy had already won the connect 4 game at the start :( The black diagonal from the bottom left to the middle
I know lol. That was terrible plot continuity on my part hahahaha.
Hahaha I was thinking the same
Man what a fun build! Thanks!
Awesome job

That looks awesome. Amazing build! Thanks for the share.
My pleasure bud
And now I’m going to build it

I just kept re-milling it until it stopped moving

Hey I was just wondering how thick is the plywood that you're using?
This is great.

Can you purchase the instructions?
@7:10 where’s the square in the leather pouch
On the bench I'm sure

Jonathan Katz-Moses that’s great to know. Haha. I’m going to check out the DeWalt now. Thanks and love your videos and your dovetail jig.
Hello! Aren’t t cork discs too fragile? Did I miss how you cut cork discs?
You should consider selling the router jig as well.
I sell the plans in that video
@@katzmosestools - hey is that supposed to be linked to a video by April Wilkerson?
The link is working right now. Great fix!
Growing up if you tied playing tic-tac-toe it was a "cats game". If you tie in connect 4 is it a Katz-Game?
Lol
Hey! Do you sell giant connect four games?
How easy are the plans to follow for a mid level DIY guy? Aldo do you have a estimated cost of materials on this project
Really cool build Jonathan! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 ......🤔 ... Perhaps the T's and P's Chad was thinking about were Toilet and Paper, that would explain you resulting in a wipe out! 🧻😁
Lol probably
So do I need to sign up for something to get these plans?
Nope US $5.00 on their website
You should talk to The Wood Whisperer about calling your project Connect 4! Marc had to change the name to Four in a Row.
He only did that because it was a Honda commercial.
What kind of blade was that on the Makita? 😟
Awesome project! Is this for a bar or something like that?
My personal game palace

Are you worried about the paste wax for the slide ever wearing down?
No
Supp Buddy awesome job...
Just wandering, what was the built time?
How long did this take to make?
Millenial Bars all over the nation: Take my money.
Great build.
Hahaha so true
Dude. I had nothing to do with the bit coming out. Everyone always wants to blame Chad. 🤣
Just ordered my Dove Tail Jig. Maybe a how-to video using the router jig? Cheers from Idaho!
I linked the video in the cards (top right corner of vid). Cheers my friend
I wish I could get someone to record me at work at a keyboard and add cool music too...
Giggled when you said knob, trim, and wax at 11:24. What can I say... it’s the 12 year old in me 🤷♂️

Aren't the discs officially called checkers❓ That's what I call 'em.
Clean up your desk :-)
