Wow. Going into this movie, and knowing about how Bond is with women, to hear him say those words is just wow. To see him this vulnerable, realizing how if Vesper hadn't betrayed him, he would have devoted his life to her. It's both beautiful and heartbreaking.

Bond loved Vesper so much, losing her is literally the reason he has so much trouble in the rest of the films. He's legit broken by her death.

    • @ericbrown1101
      @ericbrown1101 Год назад +70

That was one of the most important parts of the character as Ian Fleming originally wrote him. The story of James Bond is a tragedy. He is defined by loss. In the books, he is a deeply melancholy figure after Vesper's death. We don't really see that in the films until Craig. This is why I find the criticism of the ending of the last film shortsighted. Bond's was a tragic story that they ended tragically, but in a way still triumphant. He finally found peace.

Just watching their scenes together the romantic connection between them was amazing. You can tell in the film how much he fell for her and that he truly loved her. Out of all the girls Daniel Craig's been with as Bond, I think he had the best chemistry with Vesper. Its a shame her character died but I loved their story together.

I always felt the bits after this really hurts the flow of the film. It's like a 'fourth-act' which wasn't uncommon in movies but at that point I have invested so much in LeChiffre and the Casino Royale storyline, but it all ended here, so it's kinda 'resolved', so what happened later just did not really have me 100%. I mean Vesper dying is tragic but IMO you may as well end this movie here and move it to the beginning of Quantum... It's like you had a big meal then you have little appetite for the dessert which isn't as good as the main course and leaves a little bit of bitter taste in your mouth :'(

One aspect that adds to the complexity of Vesper’s character is that she has a string of betrayals-to her country, to her boyfriend, to Bond, and to Mr. White and Quantum. Each betrayal is her adaptation to changing circumstances. Believing herself to be in love, the ambitious Vesper betrays her country to save her boyfriend’s life. She in turn betrays her boyfriend by falling in love with Bond and making a deal with Quantum for the money in exchange for Bond’s life. Of course, she betrays Bond by handing the money to Quantum, but she also betrays the organization by leaving her cell phone and providing James the number for Mr. White.
Each betrayal was motivated by where Vesper Lynd believed her heart belonged most. She was placed in an impossible situation, or at least she felt she was. It was a battle of survival that eventually turned to protecting the person she loved most. Whether she gave the money or not, she understood that her own life was doomed. She had been involved in too much, and there was not much left to gamble with in her own life. Instead, she chose the guaranteed outcome, the outcome that Bond would live while sacrificing herself. The great sadness punches you in Quantum of Solace when you learn that her boyfriend was never in any danger at all. Vesper and Bond were robbed of their happiness.
Did she actually love Bond? She may not have intended it, but slowly and surely, she found herself more in love with Bond than with Yusuf. As Bond is recovering after Le Chiffre’s interrogation, Vesper exclaims that if all that was left of Bond was his “smile and [his] little finger, [he] would still be more than any other man [she’d] met.” In that moment, you can see the pain and heartbreak in her face as she realizes how much this man loves her, how much she loves him, and the impending betrayal she knows will happen. She continues to wear the love knot Yusuf had given her until her final moments, signifying that her love and her actions are for James.

She must have also felt that James is all the things that Yusuf could have never even imagined to become. It must have completely altered her perception of what true men really look like.
      > The great sadness punches you in Quantum of Solace when you learn that her boyfriend was never in any danger at all. Vesper and Bond were robbed of their happiness.
That had always been the most infuriating part for me. If I was bond I would have excruciatingly annihiliated that bipedal cancer called Yusuf at the end of Quantum of Solace along with everyone else involved for what they did to Vesper.

She was perfectly cast opposite Craig. Her evolution from the book to a character for this time is astounding and her betraying Bond was all the more heartbreaking by knowing she was responsible. This film ripped out Bonds heart, soul and balls and asked what's left of him? Is he still Bond?

The chemistry between Daniel Craig as James Bond and Eva Green as Vesper Lynd in movie Casino Royale 2006 was off the charts, it was so good, interesting, natural, raw, grounded, hot and sexy and James fell madly, totally and unconditionally in love with Vesper and she did the same with him and it is changed both of their lives forever and when she betrayed him and died it left him heartbroken and I believe James had never got over Vesper either and she was the love of his life and he was the love of her life.

Madeleine is the relief for his great loss, but even on the screen the chemistry between Bond and Vesper has no equal in the remaining pictures. Anyway Vesper and Madeleine are different characters, Vesper being more sweet while Madeleine stronger, so actually one can not compare them.

Eva Greene. Some choreographers create in the studio working with a dancer- they write/choreograph their story 'on the body.'
It's not an exact metaphor, but it isn't enough to say that Vesper seems to have been "written for" Eva Greene...
It feels more like Vesper could not exist without her.
Transforming Bond into a human being took magic. 007 & the Bond Girls were all about Chemistry. The writing here sets it up but is heavy - it's the actors who let us - like Bond - believe.
Craig's Bond has a latent and credible capacity for change, and Greene/Vesper is the alchemist. Her tenderness is the catalyst - her power so great no one is spared.

The fact that he genuinely saw a future with her after a life of solitude makes her betrayal and subsequent death all the more tragic for Bond. It is at this very moment on the beach where we see him experience genuine hope for a future he never thought he would have, and it's beautifully acted here by DC. The one time he lets his guard down is the one time he gets truly burned.

Everyone is talking about how James got snaked by Vesper but nobody ever never mentions how Mathis got absolutely fucked in the movie. He was trying to protect Bond, was the fall guy to Le Chiffre/Vesper's scheme, and was arrested because of this and no doubt brutally interrogated and tortured by UK officials (as told in quantum of solace.)
I'm honestly surprised that Mathis didn't become a Bond villain after that lol.

I think there are a couple of dialogs where one can infer that she really loved him. When they're at the Hotel in Venice, Bond tells her that she stopped wearing the necklace Jusef gave her, but she says, time to realize that you can not forget your past. She loved him also, but indeed she knows that she couldn't escape from her fate, either being accused of betrayal, and maybe gain Bond's contempt, or being murdered by Quantum, so since she's unable to handle that heavy guilt, she decides to commit suicide. Her last action, kissing Bond's hand. Difficult to know what she was thinking, but that's my guess based on the dialogs and events.

Vesper didn't betray Bond. She made a deal to save his life and cost her, her own. She so much wanted to protect him that she was even willing to go to her death letting Bond believe that she was the bad guy. I wondered why she wouldn't tell him what deal was made, but I think now that she knew telling him would put him back in danger, as he would surely force her to break the deal that was protecting him. Even in her drowning, I believe she did it to stop James from killing himself in trying save her. Vesper undoubtedly loved James just as deeply as he did her. 💔

Ahhhhhhh....This scene, this scene, this movie!!! As a huge James Bond fan and the biggest romantic on the planet, I constantly come back to this perfectly delivered and executed scene. Back in 2017ish (maybe 2018), I briefly encountered Daniel Craig at an event. When he turned around and we locked eyes, his steely blue eyes made my knees buckle almost completely from under me, but in that moment, you could NOT tell me that I was not Vesper Lynd and James Bond had fallen in love with me 😎. I was living my Bond girl dream in that brief moment and it was an absolute highlight of my life that I will never forget! I was a Connery fan until my adult years, then Roger Moore's humourous but still suave take on Bond won me over (Dalton and Brosnan were equally suave). Then, then, then, came Daniel Craig and Casino Royale. My absolute favorite James Bond film because the writers allowed Bond to show his softer side, which, in no way diminished his delicious masculinity. It is extremely attractive that he is so in love and soft towards Vesper, but you remain fully aware of who he is and his inner and outer strength. What a winning dichotomy in a man. Just my little opinion about the awesome James Bond!
