He seems like a down to earth guy. Really inspirative to see how someone played the match of his life in an olympic event. His performance is a great reminder that everything is possible :)
Marin Mandusic The best players are all down to Earth guys. The guys that never win tourneys are ironically the hotheads: Chen Weixing, Bojan Tokic, Bastian Steger, Bastian Steger, and Bastian Steger....
Ryu was lighting fast. With speed glue, his forehand was simply the best in the world. None of the Chinese players ever reached his level in terms of forehand power. After winning the gold medal, people began training more specifically to counter his style of play, and his backhand weakness gradually revealed.
@@muhammadsohaibimran1402 True, the biggest downfall of perfect footwork is that it is very taxing on the body, and as you get older it will start to deteriorate. He was able to cover the full table with his forehand, but as he got older he had to start using more of that awkward backhand.
I am a shakehand player but I love to see how excellent his traditional penhold style is. Even he lost more than what he won, Ryu Seung Min is always my favorite table tennis player. I think no more traditional penhold players can reach the world class level.
For a pro Korean player who doesn't live abroad and didn't really go to school up until early 2010s, I have to say I'm impressed by his English. Always admires pro sports player who pursues education after retiring. Maybe tries a little harder to keep his weight down then that would be golden LOL

+KripkeSaul are you sure it is a successful result for a Olympic gold medalist? How about Zhang Jike and Ma Lin? I dont doubt that Ryu is one of the top player but it is fail result for the medalist
Olympic means not much really. Not that I want to minimize the victory of Ryu Seung Min, but it's just one major victory in one single even. Don't forget, in the first place, that Ryu never reach Wang Hao's level in reality. In fact, except Wang liqin and Ma long, no one achieve Wang Hao's prodigious career, ever.
I agree, he might have had a moment where he played 110% and that was his moment. Wang Hao was absolutely unstoppable during his prime but Ryu had an insane FH. Memorable match.
although it may sound crazy : I believe wang hao had a better and consistent career in overall titles than WLQ. 3 world cups out of 5 final appearances, 4 of them in consecutive years ! wlq only one appearance in world cup final and lost to samsonov. 3 olympic finals and 4 wttc finals , WLQ no olympic final and 4 wttc finals. wang hao also had better head to head in important matches. he is for me the unluckiest chinese, I suppose LGL always liked more players like ma lin and zhang jike, but its just my speculation.
You don't need to reach their level, you just need to beat them once to prove them wrong. This man not only did that but stole a historic event they wanted the most.....Never the less enjoy your 16 comment likes
Yeah, Olympic doesn't mean that much bro, keep fooling yourself. Ryu did so much for a Jpen style, that medal was almost a miracle, yet you are here talking bullcrap

It was not revealed.. Rather he got older and slower than before
Wang Liqin's forehand rivals his, though during this time, his forehand definitely is one of the strongest forehands of that time
@@jackdoe43 Wang Liqin had more power in open rallies but RSM had better third ball attacks.

胖柳,你考虑过胖皓的感受吗?
这能有啥,成王败寇,当时柳承敏确实比王皓强。跑动,正手,王皓处处下风。
Meu ídolo !!!!!!!
his english is good too!

Ryu had a spectacular forehand. Only Wang Liqin was anywhere near him in terms of power.
Agreed, btw I've heard that penhold forehands are usually the fastest forehands is that true? BTW sorry for replying to this a year after 😆.
I was thinking that right before he started speaking definitely the best I’ve ever seen him play best match definitely
