Awesome tutorial. It seems like such a simple task, but I've been trying for ages to figure out a good simple, flexible way to do this, and this is the perfect method. I learned something new too. Holding OPTION and clicking on the mask itself lets you copy directly into the mask, that rocks. Smashing job, Thanks!
I'm thinking of doing a Photoshop 101 series in the near future if there's enough interest. I would start with the basics from a first time user perspective. Then I would move on to more advanced projects. What do you guys think?
GREAT tutorial. Short, sweet, to the point and clearly understood. Great work and thank you. It helped out tremendously on a recent movie poster project!
You are made of awesome sir. I was near banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to do this. I knew it could be done, but I just couldn't remember how. Thank you.
Nevermind. I just finally ..... finally (this is like my 3rd time watching your vid) figured out what 'option' is on pc. Alt. Learning still, thanks for this video.
Worked well for me but I then wanted to just have my logo with the texture, visible. What is the best way for me to get rid of the excess "old paper" and have a no fill background?
at 3:00 you say "I'm going to add a layer mask", but I can't see what command creates the layer mask (or what type of layer mask if you use drop down? thanks so much.
It's a great tutorial, but I can't get it to work. I select all/copy:deselect desaturated layer. Then I add and select layer mask on logo layer then select paste. But it doesn't paste into layer mask, it pastes into a new layer. What step am I getting wrong?
+Tom B It sounds like you are just selecting the layer mask and not actually clicking INTO it. Make sure you hold OPTION (CTRL on PC) and then click the layer mask. When you do this, your screen should just be plain white. Then you can paste. Once you've done that, simply click on any other layer in the layers palette.
Hi, I am looking for a tutorial that shows me how to turn a flat artwork into something with texture, e.g. The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle...where every element of the artwork has hand-painted texture, so I could scan my textures and apply them to my artwork...would this tutorial apply to that or is that a separate technique?
Question, please help. What is 'option' at 3:05? I don't understand how you got into that menu for the layer mask... using old ps7, so I'm kinda lost yeah.
hey guys!! could you please telm where can i find old paper texture? i searched but i need 5000x3500at least (size), what i find are to samll or i can't downdload sorry for my english and thak you all!!!
For the beginner this is very hard to do:( it depends of a lot of things, it looks easy on the face of it. I'll keep trying to learn all this stuff though!
dude I just get it. hold alt key on the mask layer and paste it :D tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/how-to-paste-into-a-layer-mask-in-photoshop-cs6/rus/
Nothing to worry.. :) Since your text is in vector you have to rasterize the layer (In windows - Right click on the text layer and select Rasterize Layer) Voila!! There you go..
Key shortcuts are great, but people have difficulty remembering them. Show people where the adjustments are in the layout, and then use the shortcuts if you must. Great tutorial though.
ditialyardsale, why did you quit helping the many people who told you that they couldn't get the paste into the layer mask to work using CONTROL and clicking on the mask and then pasting??? didn't work for me either. Why did you not try to help? its your tutorial, come back and show people how to do it!!!
So happy people are able to follow along and find it useful!

+digitalyardsale I am having the same problem. Using Photoshop CC 2014
+digitalyardsale Instead of CTRL it has to be ALT (on PC)
yep this doesnt work with either ctrl or alt

You probably figured it out by now, but all you have to do is rasterize the text layer and it works.
been doing dis in different way .das techniques I’ve nat tried before thanks
thanks... good help...
The link to the texture file is broken. Is there another place to look?
Burp? Subbed. Great tut.

for pc users to paste into the layer, hold the Alt key.
For the beginner this is very hard to do:( it depends of a lot of things,
it looks easy on the face of it. I'll keep trying to learn all this stuff though!

You have to hold "Alt" and click into the layer mask. Hope you learned (:
This just creates adjustment layers for me.
link to the texture file WENT DOWN
This tutorial DIDN'T work with my text? For some reason, it wouldn't make the layer mask right. Instead, it kept forming a new layer. :(
How does this work if your logo is all white?
@madeyes4u Yo! You have to go to channels and turn on the "eye" of the mask. Hope this helps!
I can paste on the mask layer. it just create a new layer. wtf???
Thanks for watching! :)
Option if you're on a Mac, ALT if you're on a PC.
How so, "gonna hold option"?
Raman Macháček its alt in windows
Where download logo ?
That's one my personal logos, so it doesn't have a download location. You can use this method with any logo or text that you like though.
ok . Link download Photoshop please ? :)
ByTza Gaming If you want Photoshop, you should pay for it like everyone else has to.
No. We will steal it like everyone else.
my name is Jen and I am so super cool
Rasterize your text first :)
nick mira? wtf
internet money
