Ali vs. Liston: Behind Neil Leifer's Photograph | 100 Photos | TIME
/ timemagazine
Boxer in the 1960s and his name is still remembered very fondly. Just goes to show how much of a legend he truly is
A Legend indeed
And 70’s
I’m just binge watching all these photograph videos. They’re so good
Erika Juarez me tooooo
Same
Me too!!
Same
Me right now
That picture is iconic. It symbolizes David beating Goliath. Symbolizes overcoming the impossible. At that time the critics thought Liston was going to kill Ali. Not only did Ali beat him he even knocked him out.
Not rlly David Vs Goliath bc Ali was taller and bigger than Liston

It is a jaw-droppingly good photograph. Interesting to hear about how the unique lighting and cigar haze contributed to that crystal clear look
The moment that John Rooney and Neil Leifer captured lasted for a split second. The fact that they both took photos that are near images of each other is amazing, and says a lot about their talents as photographers.
The greatest sporting photo of all time
"Never considered anything special"
Man, people don't know something's an iconic masterpiece even when under their big fat noses.
please, please do more of these.
There’s 100 photos they totally should
My grandfather always talks very fondly of Ali and when i was younger i didnt know much about him but i knew his name, i knew his moto, and i knew for some reason he was a LEGEND! but now that im in my early adulthood i understand! Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!
Perfect picture
These are amazing. Please don't stop making them
One of your best series TIME, one of your best!
this was one of the best videos I ever saw on youtube 👌
The phantom punch was so quick omg. Greatest of all time.
Most ICONIC Sport Pic 😍
Fascinating... I deeply admire the professionalism and talent of these photographers... Reminds me btw of story of the picture from Hermann Maiers downhill crash in Nagano from Sports Illustrated photographer Carl Yarbrough...
Thanks Neil.
Got tears ❤️
Thank You
Greatest Of All Time
Imagine being liston and one of the most iconic pictures on earth is you knocked out on the ground
The greatest!!
I got teary eyed when I see the colored picture. 😢
Bruh Muhammad Ali Said "Get Up!" That was it so heavenly this fight and rematch! they already fight before liston give up, this time! He got Knock the lights out!
Liston was in his 40s I believe, but Ali was to athletic for him anyways. Why isn't there a picture of the knockdown punch from a different angle?
ken alasdair Liston was 11 years older then Muhammad Ali which makes him 33
There's no real date of birth of Sonny Liston but I think he's at least 2 years older than he really is. I think 1930 he was born maximum 1928 no lower
Because it was 1964 lol you couldn't just pull your iphone out and start recording.
Liston was 31 when he fought Ali for the first fight. He was 32 when he fought Ali for the second time. At the time of their first fight, Liston was considered one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and was considered the best boxer in the world.
Liston took a dive.
Wanderful sports.. The art..... BOXING...
Hello.. Ciao per tutti...
This picture captures the best moment in boxing ❤
4:20
What a photograph
I’ve seen that’s pic when I was a teen
GOAT
R.I.P Ali
🐐
Look how big his feet are at 4:20
It's sad kids on twitter compare this man to jake paul
Sonny Liston had major mob ties. He threw the fight and Ali knew, as he lay there Ali yelled “get up!! Get up!!” Because he knew he could
"Athletes were supposed to be modest".....please don't tell me he started the arrogant athlete trend, because I respect him and I hate arrogant athletes intensely.
Daniella he's probably the first publicly arrogant athlete. But I'm probably wrong.
You could argue that his arrogance was at least partially politically motivated. At least it wasn't just arrogance for arrogance sake like modern athletes.
Ali was being himself the name change his speech and freedom of it he was against all the things at that time that was oppressing people of his race.
Iconic image of a man that threw the fight
James One right, Ali is yelling at Liston because he took a dive
Ali was trained in the caves of Afghanistan and funded by lee Harvey Oswald. Ali took a dive. The fix was in. It was rigged.
What do people mean when they say this fight was fixed?
They mean that liston fell down on purpose. Like he got paid to lose but I don’t believe that’s the case.
When someone you keep calling by his former name, despite he made it clear he changed his name, win the fight, people would make excuses to that victory
@@ahmadjauhar4562 It was fixed in the iconic photo he’s not saying his win he is saying get up sucker don’t take the money from the mob. But in reality they had kidnapped Liston’s wife and kid. So he had to take the fall. Ali would’ve probably still won but it was rigged.
It means that they lack the ability of critical thinking and investigative skills.
No comprehension so they just regurgitate with their others what is the easiest for them to comprehend.
힘들다면 성장하고 있다는 분명한 사실입니다.
위험을 피하세요 🍔
time, I think you forgot about the pale blue dot image.
After sow the Ali in Netflix 😅😅😅🇨🇴🎥
"Get up and fight sucker"
Good job saying you didn’t hear absolutely anything, because you know exactly what you heard! GET UP MAN GET UP AND FIGHT
🥊
Bigger than bingo
Iconic image story
Phantom punch card full
#haiku #photography #film #color #sportstory #wgasolidarity #writerstrike #payequity
Ksi vs Ali 😂😂
Clown as millenial.
Don’t compare KSI to any of them. KSI a fool
all this ceremonious bullshit over a fixed fight, Ali isnt yelling because hes victorious hes yelling cuz Liston was being so obvious with his dive
bobeagle007 to Ali's credit it seemed he didnt want the fight to be fixed, I believe he actually wanted Liston to fight like he wanted to win, thats why hes so impassioned in the photo, in the video you can see him berating Liston right after he took the easy fall
.......WELL , THAT,S ONLY HALF THE STORY . THE OLD MAN BEHIND ALI ,BETWEEN HIS LEGS ,STOP IT , IS THE OTHER PART OF STORY....
Lies , Ali said get up in fight because Liston was throwing the fight for a mob boss . He was telling Liston to don’t throw the fight. The real reason that picture was turned to something else.
63 comments on this video I'm not from 63rd 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
The arm across the chest was the end result of Ali motioning Liston to get up after being rocked by a counter right.
Do some simple research. Watch the fight. Geeez.
it was a fixed fight so the picture definitely loses some of its luster when you realize that...
This picture is phony. Liston took a dive from a phantom punch.
Plz do more of these...but Skip the Draft Dodger...
What?
wrong. 3 things
1) world series champ
2) heavyweight champ
3) racism
