Holy shit. I did a semester of French classes with David/Neelix about 15 years ago on a small French island through a university program. Everyone thought he was so weird because he was so into his religion (Christian) that it was awkward and all he did was edit Wikipedia entries. Everybody had to stay with "host families" in the town throughout the semester, and lots of the hosts had multiple students sharing a room. David/Neelix's roommate used to complain about how he was kept awake and woken up by the ticking of this analogue clock (which I think David brought with him) and by the clicking of David typing away at his Wikipedia editing on his laptop. The genus Sula was introduced by the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson in 1760.[3] The type species is the brown booby.[4] The name is derived from súla, the Old Norse and Icelandic word for the other member of the family Sulidae, the gannet.[5]

@@Zorro9129 Wiki admins aren't nerds.
Wikipedia is very much censored. I used to do wiki all the time. Then the wiki hangs regulated me because they disagreed with my articles of topical edits related to frequency therapy. The only reason the novocure/optune article even remains is because another common wikipedian happened to be an intern with novocure. Dozens of other pages got deleted because theirs gangs of nimrods there, literally wiki gangs , that dislike any conversation regarding frequency therapy.
That is increasingly problem on the internet. Pages, that pretends to be "objective" are more and more used to push worldviews of their authors or admins and try to eliminate all those who disagree with them. It would be really interesting if there would be some ranking system and automatic account deletion after certain amount of time or edits. That would prevent, most likely, many problems as there would be no "board of permanent moderators". After unkown time they would have to start from scratch.
No offense, but no sane person knows what "frequency therapy" is.

3:00 "Wikipedia is uncensored". I can't even imagine the doublethink necessary to believe that horseshit 😹
Honestly considering how many different terms people might use to describe their issues regarding their mammal identifiers I feel that a lot of this was justified. People have no idea of the diversity in vocabulary that exists. Sure some were just funny but overall they were just harmless. I feel I am missing something though.
I'd argue that if you actually wanted to have this sort of system in place for wikipedia you could make an unofficial site that parses these terms and redirects you to the actual wikipedia. This way it doesn't actually impact the development of wikipedia (which likes to keep itself at least somewhat professional) and acts as a sort of pull-on filter for people who would "need" it, but I feel like his intentions weren't genuine in the first place, even if you claim these terms are "puerile", I can't really imagine a kid looking up "titty x" on wikipedia instead of google or even google images, and even in the case that they look it up on wikipedia, I feel like that's just enabling improper behaviour in the first place, which I wouldn't really want my encyclopedia written by the people for the people to do.
I agree there is no way that a relevant redirect can be harmful. User doesn't know of the term "mammary surgery" and types in "booby operation". If it redirects to what they were looking for then they are impressed and happy to find the info they want. If it doesn't redirect, the user may give up and feel unsatisfied. I don't get how this could be considered "a bad thing to do".
I haven't had a chance to read the sources in full, but since I maintain a wiki running the same code on a paid web server, I CAN say that excessive redirects can be seen as spam and resource hogging. Each redirect on its own takes up little space, but it adds up when the Boobie Baron here makes 80k of them. You may have noticed that every year, the Wikimedia foundation hosts a donation drive to help keep things running: they need a lot of money to maintain the massive databases that Wikipedia and its sister projects draw from, the hardware it runs on, and so on.
That's just my best guess, though. Still haven't read the sources in full, and I tend not to dip into Wikipedia beyond basic information and sources cited, so I wouldn't know of their greater code of conduct and userbase culture.

I don't fucking know why RUclips thought it was important enough to recommend me this video today.
But boy, I do not regret watching it either.
For real tho, I don't get it. It isn't like he's creating weird articles, he's just making all possible redirects. The purpose of redirects is to help those who don't know the official name to a page get where they want. So considering the articles are sexual in nature, doesn't it just help people, as sexual things usually have multiple obscene and weird names?
Edit: saw some reasonable explanations in the replies
I feel the same way. I genuinely don't understand the problem here. When I first heard "re-direct" I was thinking along the lines of using a weird source. But to me this feels like making a redirect for looking up "funny pew pew sound" or anything else totally absurd that most people commonly use to refer to the thing they're actually looking for.
Someone else commented that redirects hogs database space for wikipedia.

Well, I was almost expecting this to be a 30 minute video that should have taken less than 5 minutes but thankfully you did the right thing and made it under 5 minutes.
Wikipedia as a source has a lot of virtues, as long as you are old enough to have learned to take care, seek multiple sources, think critically. All basic stuff. Wikipedia has a lot of great articles, and can direct us to good linked sources. The main problem that goes back to very early on was always political wrangling [in the 2000s, any article on the 1990s Yugoslav wars, for example, and maybe still today, but I'm sure there are others]. From the early days until well after 2010 there was a lot of value in non-contentious articles. It's slipped a bit, and not only in that way. I find a lot of articles on historical topics that were rich and detailed back then have gotten thinner and less detailed, and sometimes less well written or even with more errors. Not sure why, unless there's been a policy to seriously shorten longer articles on things like historical topics. That would have been a mistake, but I could well believe that happened. Pity.
I’m coming back to this video and realizing I don’t actually think Neelix did anything wrong, and certainly did not deserve to lose admin privileges.
Now it might be my poor understanding of how this works, but if I’m correct all that he was doing was adding key words so that if someone was looking for, let’s say, the article on mammograms but didn’t know the word, they might type in “tit pics” and get redirected to the correct article. Likely they were redundant and unnecessary, but they didn’t harm anything. It’s weird he focused so hard on boobs specifically but you know…I guess they were on his mind 😅
He didn't lose admin privileges - he was told that he would if he created any more redirects. He stopped, then gave up the admin priviliges and left the site.
Neelix is from Ontario? I would've expected this from "Québec man" never "Ontario man".
Neelix is actually from Talax (also known as Talaxia)

I think he did it for the lulz. I mean come on, "A Trip Down Mammary Lane"?! That is hilarious.
No, he was actually mental, dude stalked a girl and ade a 5000 word article about her.
He didn't really do anything wrong. Those are all valid redirects.
"A Trip down Mammary Lane" lmao 😂😂
I genuinely don’t see the problem lol, it’s just a redirect. How will all the great thinkers of the world like Neelix find their booby builder pages now?
He needs to become a poet...a trip down mammary lane? Such a classic
if you think he's cool or attractive because of this breakdown and obsession, that is absolutely sad. He also apparently sthlked a lady after watching a video of her brhst fheeding. Some het. boy having some breakdown. gross.
someone in another comment said that redirects hog database space and can appear as suggestions in the search bar, so having a bunch of them could cause trouble

@@thereseemstobeenanerror1219 - they might not be, but *I* am. Go to your room and think about what you said. I’m very disappointed with you.
this is somehow the second time a wikipedia admin made up an ungodly amount of bullshit and when asked for explanations they didnt really give one and when they were asked to properly apologize they didn't and told everyone to "leave them alone"
I think anyone that becomes a wikipedia editor will do a bit of obssessive sperging from time to time.
i’m glad i’m not the only person who remembers the tragic tale of amaryllis gardner, the american scotsman
What was the first one?
@@amberhawksong Amaryllis Gardener.
how did he not properly apologize? seemed very proper to me
Me, looking at my hands: maybe, I am a Wikipedia admin
I watched this video months ago and just remembered it, reccomendations tookk me a trip down mammary lane
There was a guy at my high school who etched his initials on the bottom of nearly every tray in the lunch room. This is better.
The 6 year anniversary
Let us celebrate.
Let us mourn
But let us never forget.
His mammary lives on.
This is the kind of engagement I expect from an admin. mad recpect
Keep us abreast of the situation.
The Jacksonville Florida page has a admin that thinks people from there are called "Jacksonvilonians" because he found 2 irrelevant web pages that are 5+ years old.
This is the 1st time I've ever seen you, and I really like your content. You've got great presentation, and no useless padding. I've subbed and liked. Thanks.
Much appreciated Christian! Glad you liked it!
"no useless padding"

What an absolute LEGEND!
This guy clearly knows his way around in adult content
this is the biggest laugh i've had in weeks. Thank you very much
I was dying making the video man!
