  • Made July 2024 on the Roland Sp404 Mk2. All synth sounds were performed and sampled from the JD-08 with a few extra sounds from Korg iOdyssey and Relics Waves.
A song about the sensation of being drawn deep into a liminal dream realm by a beautiful naked figure that guides you further and further from reality. As she leads you deeper into a world of perplexing architecture, ravenous dream parasites lurk in the shadows eyeing you hungrily, waiting for their chance. Will you escape?
Contains: Synthwave / Original Vaporwave 90s sounds, hip hop/r&b elements, blackened industrial metal, dark industrial atmospheres, dark forest trance inspired techno/ house music.
Many of the JD-08 patches are custom made, but I will admit, I am in love with the wailing guitar preset, and I think it's the perfect synth patch for solos.
Extra note: for this track none of the art used contains ai or stable diffusion elements. To be honest, the art probably could have been SD generated very quickly, but I tried to keep it all original. This time I hand drew a few scenes using game screenshots and photos as a reference, traced over the drawings in Procreate, then added a TON of GIMP filters, with "Posterization" doing the bulk of the heavy lifting. Logos and stickers and fonts were added in post. Not sure if any of that matters, but I figured I'd mention it for anyone interested. Hope you enjoy.

@@Dude1923Dumby thank you very kindly! Really glad you liked it.
All the melodic synths in this one are from JD08 except for maybe 1 or 2 solo sounds in the heavy section. I'm loving the JD08 so far, it has a ton of character and sounds I'm very nostalgic for.

Ungh this is awesome, this middle part with like, bloopy watery sounds , like idk how to even describe but it sounds sick on headphones. This whole track is very atmospheric and interesting.
Love the artwork too, great images and color palette, I'd have this one on my wall from the official George L print shop 😎
As this is a live stream of consciousness comment as usual, I have to mention this ASMR woman part was super cool and unexpected. Overall the mix and everything on this sounds great on headphones 🎧

@hexwavemusic thank you so much! I always like hearing if you dig a track. Means a lot to me.
So all the pads basses and leads were the JD08 played into the sp404. But the bloops were a mix of random 2600, Syntakt, and a combo of Relics and Fractal Bits softsynths, depending on what I was near at the time.
I actually did a lot of the texture recording while watching shows. Me and the crew were watching breaking bad and better call Saul for the first time, so there were a LOT of episodes. Plenty of time to multitask and record bloops with headphones on. The 404 fx make them sound a little more spacious and stereo too.
I also sample random things I find from movie clips and Internet stuff too. I know it's kinda naughty, but Idc that much. It's usually something random or obscure and hopefully transformative enough to not get scolded over. I sampled a random episode the TV show Charmed once I think. That's the one with Alyssa Milano? I needed an attractive female voice talking about witchcraft to pitch down and add reverb to. Sorry Alyssa Milano. If you're reading this, message me and I'll take it down. Also while I have your attention, do you like Mexican food? There's this place nearby, they make killer enchiladas and they have a great spicy house tequila, they even give you a blood orange coated in sugar to bite into when you take a shot. We should go sometime. Anyways...
      What was I talking about?

@@hexwavemusic yeah! One of those shows everyone told me to watch back in the day but I never got around to. Finished all of it after a massive binge with the homies. Now my next fixation is going to be 2024 released Nicholas Cage horror movies.

Whoa, how do you make the covers? Really cool stuff mane, keep it up!

      Thank you!
Each cover is a little different. I used to do a lot of photo collage stuff, mixing movie stills with drawn things. When stable diffusion and a.i. came out I started incorporating some of that into the artwork. Recently people expressed a bit of dislike for a.i. art, so I went back to some of the old ways of making the covers.
This one in particular has 3 images: the background was a big cyclops octopus I drew with pen and paper, then I took a picture of it with an iPad and loaded that into Procreate. In Procreate, I traced over the image adding in shadows and shading and stuff. Then the final image went straight into GIMP and hit with a few "Posterize" filters and color reduction to give it a "clean" look.
The second image was a hallway filled with water. It was actually a screenshot from a game on Steam called Pools. It's a weird little game about... Well... Pools. I took the screenshot, boosted the contrast all the way up and drew over it in Procreate. The little octopus monster in the back was drawn in just with procreate.
The female figure was done the same way as the background octopus, but I had to use a stock photo reference to get the shadows right. It was a much bigger image originally so I could zoom in, and the poster filter did a lot of the work for me.
In the the end everything was pasted together in GIMP and extra stuff like the texts, stickers, lines, and colors were added with just regular Photoshop style editing.
I'm glad you liked the artwork, but it's never really been the focus of these tracks. I just like to put *something* to look at instead of a black screen while listening to the music. While some of my past artworks had a.i. elements, I don't think I'll be using any going forward. That means the track art will take a little longer to make, but it should still have the same effect.

@@GeorgeL909Very cool to hear more details about your process! I know it's not your thing but it would be cool to see like a walkthrough somehow of you making one of these, but like, that would probably be a nightmare to record and edit 🤷
