@11:00 Melograno by SMN is a fragrance immortalized by "Casino Royale," arguably the very best James Bond movie. The character Vesper (Eva Green) uses that fragrance. A bottle can be seen among her belongings near the end of the movie.
I like this video Seb. Yeah, let's honor back the "forgottens". My forgotten fragrance would be Cuir Velours by Naomi Goodsir. I do like this perfume, it's just that I live in the tropics so it's hard for me to find a perfect cool weather for these notes. / The only Absinthe perfume I know is by Nasomatto so I have no comparison to make.
I LOVE Oud Save the King. So beautiful and smooth, a love at first sniff for me as well. The projection is lacking for me, but on both my skin and clothing it stays all day. Such a comforting scent for me. I think those who love Gris Charnel and enjoy a softer oud will like it a lot 😊
I have so many fragrances, so I started to try and organize them. I like how Fragrantica will say whether a fragrance is best for which season, and day or night, so I have 8 shelves now. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall, and then Winter Day, Winter Evening, Spring Day, Spring evening, Summer day, etc. etc. so now it is 8 separate shelves. Does anyone else do this? It is sooo much easier for me this way because now that is it Summer, I know all I have to do is reach for the Summer/Day shelf to pick from that day. To be honest, I have 9 shelves though. I have an extra shelf for my after bath/go to sleep scents too. If I had all the perfumes that Sebastian has I would be soooo confused!!! haha. I live in Pennsylvania though and we have 4 distinct seasons. This may not work for someone in California. I love heavy dark musks and patchoulis and animalics and I absolutely can't wear them here in the Summer so I have to keep them separate. If you have a special way of organizing your fragrances, maybe you could do a video on that one day! Tiffany xoxox
Ive got a decant of Amouage Gold Man. The problem for me is the civet. Civet renders a scent skanky when dominant, and to me its dominant in Gold Man. Im smelling it on card right now. Eyeewoooo. The Atkinson's I like so far are 21 Burlington Arcade, 41 Old Bond St., and Posh on the Green. I need to try Oud Save the King.
These are my favorite kind of videos. What about forgotten brands. MDCI has great highly curated assortment fragrances done to very high standards, and they are never watered down. Expensive but I always feel I’ve got my money’s worth.
Santa Maria Novella's Patchouli is AMAZING!!!!! it's earthy/minty at the beggining, then it gets earthy/herbal and the drydown is mostly herbal but it still has some of the initial momentum of earthyness/mintyness from the begining, i love it
I'm obsessed with Duel by Goutal and NO ONE ever talks about it. It's such a beautiful, green, sweet, GAIAC. Love it when you take us back into the archive, Seb! There's a time and a place for xyz-sparkly-new-oud-gourmand-ambroxan-niche houses but we rarely get the time to worship at the altar of the OG classic niche innovators! Annick Goutal! Jo Malone! Serge Lutens! Lorenzo Villoresi! Thanks, friend!
Oh, I do love Sel de Vetiver. I should definitely get a back-up bottle. Another wonderful classic by The Different Company is Oud Shamash. By Goutal, I especially like Encens Flamboyant.
Cool topic for a post, thank you! My forgotten fragrance; Ferré by Ferré in the grenade bottle. It would have had a spot in your video on aldehydes too!
Love this and please start a new series of videos with this theme. Thanks Sebastian. I need to check Gold Man. You make sound so good even if it's for men.
I have a bottle of Sel de Vetiver and it's taking me a long time to finish it (there's a third left). It's not that I hate it, I just feel that the saltiness is a little bit too much that I pick other bottles first.
Wow, I have never heard of most of these fragrances. Heck, I haven't even heard of a lot of these brands. That Rania J Ambre Loup sounds really fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
I love this theme of video. I love to discover fragrances no one is talking about. I need to try the Patchouli Nino as I love gourmand patchouli. Thanks Sebastian.
The Amouage Gold Man sounds perfectly intoxicating. I'm crazy about my sample-sized vials of Beach Hut Man and Jubilation XXV. When I retire and break into my nest egg I'll treat myself to a full bottle of something Amouage. OR...a full bottle of either Tauer's Incense Rose (supposedly for women, but I love it) or Au Coeur Du Désert. All fantastic fragrances.
Will try Gold Man and Santal des Indes, Ambre Loup is on my list and I was going to get it this month but I found a pretty good deal on fragrance Du Bois Sahraa so it's going to have to wait a little longer. Of course I have forgotten fragrances even worst forgotten samples! 😱😆One of the forgotten ones that I love HoO Cypress Shade, so underrated and so good! Thanks for the video Sebastian!!!
I know the Different Company fragrances. My favorite from them is Santo Incienso. It's a smoky palo santo forward fragrance. I love Rania J's Ambre Loup. It's definitely the standout from the house for me. Atkinson's Oud Save The King is good but my favorite from Atkinson's is The Big Bad Cedar. I know many from Perris Monte Carlo but my personal favorite is Cedro Di Diamante. I won your giveaway for a full bottle from Atelier Oblique and chose Saint. They sent me a sample of Moon Sigh with my bottle but those are the only two I've smelled. Bohemian Woods sounds great, though. I hope a boutique in my city decides to start selling the brand so I can smell then other offerings from the house because I really love Saint and Moon Sigh. As we spoke about when we met at Eitket, I'm not a huge fan of Amouage's offerings though I have smelled them all. Unfortunately, I've never smelled anything else on this list as there aren't any boutiques with those brands.
Another fantastic video Sebastian. I found a bottle of Estee Lauder Intuition for men recently at the back of a cupboard and it is a great fragrance. Sweet, light and unlike anything else I've ever smelled.
Thanks Sebastian, there are so many great fragrances in your list. I have many of these but I was wondering if getting Nino Patchouli would overkill, I love Patch. And own Obvious,Javoy Psychedelique & my favorite Profumo Roma? Cheers Brutha 😎
Gold Man is one of my favorites. Just bought a new bottle a few weeks back. It is kind of like a mix between Habit Rouge and Balenciaga Pour Homme. I love love love Gold Man. I have forgotten about Gold Woman, and kind of what to smell that. edit: and I still love Indian Sandalwood. That’s one I picked up a decant on your recommendation and it is a fantastic fragrance.
I had to get a Gold Man backup because I was afraid it would disappear! I have so many of these. These come from my high buy years. My favourite Pierre Guillaume fragrance is Psychotrope it’s a fresh, almost green, uplifting jasmine. It’s hard sometimes to listen to those favourites begging to be worn again. Thanks for the reminders.
Really enjoyed this video. The profiles of these "forgotten fragrances" all seem, to me, to tend "classic," quite distinguished, mature. I tend away from anything with vanilla (which makes filtering easier) and towards anything with guaic, incense, oakmoss, geranium, vetiver (wild about vetiver), myrrh, tea, sometimes lavender (depending on what it's blended with), also intrigued by aldehydes. And spices, yes (cardamom!). Of course, one always--well, not always, but frequently, wants something citrusy to kick it off, when it's right for the fragrance. And then too there's...budget! After this video I'm VERY interested in the Santa Maria Novella Melograno and I've e-mailed myself the Lucky Scent page for it, with a note: "Buy in cold weather for next summer." That means, have it sent to my Texas address when it's not 112 degrees outside (!) so I can use it next summer. My Christmas present to me. 🙂 From Poland, greetings.
I'm only in London for 1 day before my flight to Italy and then on way back only half a day so not much time. But I want to come back to the UK again sometime soon as I love it there.
Coze is actually quite good. And of course, Pleasures really is a lovely aromatic fruity scent. Part of me is convinced there are aldehydes in there too. Not as spicy as you'd expect with the spices listed in the mid, but the lingering scent in a room after it's been sprayed is a bit addictive. 😄 I have that same feeling about Lempicka's Homme and Green Lover. For a designer brand, man does Lempicka do vanilla right.
I recently purchased Pleasures and it indeeds still smells fire like it did when it came out. I also purchased Escape by Calvin Klein and it smells exactly like it did when it came out and still strong. I purchased Euphoria, by Calvin Klein and it smells terrible now! It was a top 10 designer classic for me but the reformation is terrible.
The Perfume Guy is the expert, he did videos on clean scents. What first comes to my mind is Byredo Blanche. Like angels’ laundry, with delicate white flowers. By Goutal there’s Petite Chérie, delicate with pear… Less soapy. But longevity is subpar. Yes I do, État libre d’orange… So many great ones!
As a fellow west coaster, I'm terrified that you're in SF and have your entire collection on shelves without doors or anything. You're one bad earthquake away from starting over!
I loved A Different Company fragrances and still own plenty of them. There are too many new perfume houses and it seems like everyone wants to get into creating new perfumes. However, in my opinion, there are all ready too many perfume houses. I do like the Strangelove brand, although they are extremely expensive. Santa Maria Novella is the most beautiful perfume house in all of Italy. Melograno is one of their best but Gelsomino and their new Iris fragrance are also wonderful,
Sebastian, I apologize for over commenting. This was really a good video and topic. Sometimes we are more interested in what is new and forget about all the good fragrances most of us already own. I, for one, have a huge collection of fragrances, which I will never live long enough to use up. However, I have been trying my best to use what I already have and not buy much of any new offerings. Thanks for this much needed and useful video!
I wore it in 1997 or 1998 somewhere around there maybe even 1999 I don’t remember when it first came out I haven’t looked it up but it was brand new on the market. It came with a little cloth rag that was wrapped around the bottle.

Yep I have full bottles of Invasion Barbare and Chypre Palatin, and have Ambre Topkapi, Bleu Satin, and Le Barbier de Tanger on my to-buy list.
I like the brand but only have one from the brand. I should dig into them further. :)
That's a great house. Other than Chypre Palatin, there's Cuir Garamante, Invasion Barbare, L'Elegant et al. Agreed - all high quality
In the Netherlands you can buy Atkinson
