Handel changed my life. Big time. An Awareness of something else that makes life very beautiful despite "the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune". Waft your angels thru the skies, indeed
Richard Croft's voice is truly a thing of beauty. The length of his career and the caliber of his performances is truly remarkable. One of the great artists and singers of our day. Bravo!
Just heart-rending. What music and what a performance. A combination of exquisite harmonies full of gorgeous suspensions and a tragic story. Typing through tears.
The pain is sweet and the beauty excruciating! This was one of the hardest pieces I ever worked on . 2nd hardest. First was "love in her eyes", also Handel.
"If you let me win the war, I will give you the first person I greeted when I return home" I feel Jepftha's agony of having to sacrifice her daughter. Richard Croft's voice is sadly beautiful.
@@dnfm6228 while I do like Padmore, his upper range is too light for my taste. I prefer Croft because he has bit more heft in his sound, but he can also sing delicately like he does here.
This is singing of truly magical beauty, but, other than the opening and repeated phrase, 'waft her angels ......', I find his diction distinctly iffy. Today's English singers find terminal Rs difficult to pronounce. Listen to Heddle Nash in the same piece: words like sparkling jewels on a rbbon of
Handel, Bolton and the heavenly voice of Richard Croft; listening, I think the angels have already wafted me through the skies. Is there any hope whatsoever that this production will be revived in the future?
This is of such pure beauty that it hurts. Can’t stop listening to it. I wish I had been to this performance!! Obviously it was recorded: where can I get a copy?
@@DutchNatOperaBallet Is your entire recording on youtube? (Or any other places online?) I only see a few excerpts here. Such a shame to have recorded Mehta and Croft but unable to see the entire piece.
Yes, I heartily agree with all the sentiments expressed on this forum about his performance. The voice is sweet, tender, effortless, the effect utterly sublime. However, I wish he'd decorated the da capo more noticeably... The aria feels incomplete.
Truly sublime - what a performance of such beautiful music!

One of the most moving performance ... Thank you Richard ... Händel would be proud of you ... Heaven on Earth.
Danke...👏👏👏❤️🌻
Magnificent, moving, sublime! Richard Croft - oh, perfection, I'm speechless !!!
Cried all afternoon after hearing several renditions of this sublime aria. Transports you to paradise. Thank you Hanel and and singers all.
Man...this guy is outstanding!!!

@@DutchNatOperaBallet I agree too. ;=)

Sung with such control and restraint
Rare in performance!
The singing is tender and carries strong emotions! I also love the silent acting by Prohaska here!

Stupendo barocco!!

No one can compete with this performance. No one.
As usual in Haendel's arias, the more the melodic line seems "easy", the more it is hard to be sung. This performance is wonderful.
Wonderful - many thanks for posting this!
My heart is crying...
This guy is untouchable in this repertoire.
Tenor001 Grande he is absolutely wonderful. I think he is best tenor around
@@victorroux493 Mark Padmore
@@dnfm6228 Not as good
@@thesaucegroup1877 Imo, it's not even a comparison. Padmore is probably the best barock tenor of the past 20 year

Croft is a great artist. TRULY GREAT
He is one of my all time favourite, what a voice

Love this beautful singing of a lovely Handel aria.
This aria is such a beauty and hete sung nu the best!!! I had the privilege of seeing his performance live and or was a thing never to forget. Bravo!
I am in tears!
Wonderful music
Been there. Utterly moving.
This is singing! Such beauty!
Saludos.
Exquisite, as always. Thank you!
This is too much for one person... amazing.
Magnificent performance! Such a pity there is no DVD release
Sublime music not to be beytered in the Canon ofusical composition . Sublime rendition of it. Paradise on earth.
Loved it!

Magnífico tenor, inigualável.
Heavenly,
Magnificent!
I first heard this aria when sung by Patrick Power in Hanover St Baptist church, Dunedin NZ in mid 1973....
...
Godlike!
Pure art.
A MICROPHONE by his left ear. Maybe not the beginning of the end, but the more and more frequent use of amplification WILL change opera.
Richard shone like a beacon in “Theodora”. alongside the the amazing Lorraine Leiberson Hunt. That was a marriage of music made in heaven.
This is Jephtha -- not Theodora.
Paradiso assoluto !!
No other like him

Truly a glorious voice. But it seems Croft was so moved himself, he messed up the lyrics in the B section. Still, quite exquisite to hear.

beautiful singing but you're singing on a lower octave.
