Why am I only discovering this wonderfully rich, yet superbly humble voice now: great gifts given in service of the music. You have moved me profoundly, Mr Cooley. Thank you
A powerful and heartbreaking aria. Beautiful as it is, it depicts Jephtha's prayer for his only child as he prepares to murder her in a human sacrifice. All the musical excellence, rather than being an end in itself, is instead raised up in the interest of portraying a father's unimaginable agony as he is about to lose his child, and by his own hand. Cooley and the instrumentalists are incandescent.
From the Book of Judges. Wonderful how some of Handel's greatest works are based on events found in the Scriptures -- Jeptha, Judas Maccabeus, Messiah, Israel in Egypt, and Samson, just to name a few.
An absolutely beautiful tenor voice which is accompanied by sensitive and evocative string playing. Just close your eyes and float away on some glorious music. Bravo.
So rare I have found a musical group so bright with richness, depth and feeling, that I feel I must return over and over to enjoy these thrilling performances. I think I have listened to Thomas sing solo, Wafting us away with his soul searing rendition of Waft Her Angels, and with Amanda Forsythe stealing our Morn at least two hundred times, tears at each and every one. Cudos to your recording engineer. Combined those two probably account for at least a couple of hundred views. Bravo, Brava, Brillante! Thank you for the joy you bring.
I have to add: major kudos to whomever does your sound engineering. The recording quality is incredible. Has been incredible for all the videos I have had the pleasure to play. Acoustics, articulation, overall top notch. Thank you for your work - it is noticed...
Mr. Cooley, you put all your soul into this Händel’s aria. I have no words to express the emotion I feel when listening your impeccable interpretation. You are a great tenor. Thank you very much.
Thomas, you're a beautiful instrument - master class. So stable and gentle sounding in high tones and so dynamic in the interpretation. Bravo, master of Baroque! I love your voice. Thanks to all the musicians and video-sound production. Your are great! Good job, folks.
Those ornaments were absolutely divine and authentic and so fitting for each phrase. I loved the way the tenor played with rhythm and different embellishments to decorate the melodic line so beautifully. The richness in tone across the registers were consistent and executed perfectly. I loved the tenderness brought out by the tenor and I also love how the orchestra followed the tempo changes organically yet so precisely. A marvelous performance!!
Il est indéniablement l 'interprète idéal pour le répertoire des arias de Haendel. Timbre très chaleureux et apaisant. On ne se lasse pas de l 'écouter..
Magnificent performances by all of this beautiful aria from ‘Jeptha’ by Handel. The warrior leader receives his request from the Lord to win in battle but in return he must now sacrifice the most precious thing he has, his only daughter. He calls upon the angels to take her gently to Heaven.
So beautifully executed ... I am in floods of tears for my Sister who left in 2020. This is what I would wish ... for the angels to waft her through the skies. I could not be there at the end 💔💔💔. Love to everyone here.
Thomas Cooley can sing! And Voices of Music...magnificent! Thank you for bringing us these treasures, these little gems. Thank you for keeping great music alive.
I’m still playing this piece so often and still it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. Please, please come to the U.K. one day so we can see you just once in person!
Where has this song been all my life? Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful performance! Waft her, angels through the skies Waft her, angels through the skies Far above yon azure plain, far above yon azure plain Angels, waft her through the skies, waft her through the skies Far above yon azure plain, far above you azure plain, Glorious there like you to rise, there like you forever reign. Glorious there like you to rise, there like you forever reign, Forever reign, there like you forever reign Waft her, angels through the skies Waft her, angels through the skies Far beyond yon azure plain, far beyond yon azure plain Angels, waft her through the skies, waft her through the skies Far above yon azure plain, far above you azure plain.
This aria has been recorded by many artists though this is by far the best IMHO. The degree of spirituality and sense of grief emitted by Mr Cooley is outstanding. I hope he sees this comment, although he probably has a sufficiency of encomia to see him through his career.
Great tone that sounds clear and the performers are expertly in time keeping the beat that wonderfully complements voicing and melodies. As a composer of original music themes for book trailers about comics that are performed on the guitar, who trained on viola and loves music like this which will be mimiced in my original works, I adored seeing and hearing the sophistication and superior musicianship from all the musicians here. Such class that is pleasing to hear and inspires all who expereince the music.
I have asked for this to be sung at my funeral either live or a recorded version . I cannot think of anything more sublime than to be hymned to the eternal than by this sublime aria. No matter who sings it, it is the quintessence of musical genius. Handel in my opinion this aria is has never been surpaased in the Canon of musical composition.
one of the very first Handel arias I ever heard after Messiah. Loved it then.... Love it now... by far the best performance (if it can be demeaned by calling it that) that I have ever heard of this aria.
Two of Handel's most profound and literally uplifting arias about angels are this one and another from the oratorio "Theodora" -"Angels ever bright and fair." Both are so moving that it actually becomes painful!
Cannot be bettered surely. (Not to say that there are not also excellent renditions of this aria. I had the good fortune of seeing the opera performed by the English National Opera in London - an unforgettable evening - with one the UK's greatest contemporary tenors: a compelling and all-involving experience.)
My one true love died of cancer in my arms this most beautiful of Handles works perfectly fits my prayer till we meet again in heaven
Tears…celebrating Pure Love ❤
I had the same sentiment on the death of my wife from cancer T.W.
I also, on the death of my mother one week ago- will see her one day, glorified with the Lord Jesus in heaven!
❤ to you all
Your pain will ease with time. I promise
This man has a superb voice.
That he does, and artistry.
What a sweet voice, full of nuance and sensitivity, never overdone, what a wonderful singer!
This singer, and this whole group. So much talent.

If it weren't for Amanda Forsythe, I never would have discovered Mr. Cooley.
What the hell is 'humble' about his voice.
I bet you're American.

Thanks a lot, Jason, I didn't have any idea of what he's singing about, now I looked it up and I know. Enriched my enjoyment of the music so much!

Wow! I can hear Handel applauding….. and rightly so!!
Wonderful. What a voice!
