It's just not possible not to be moved to tears by this...the soprano and the flutist are not of this world, to say nothing of Handel himself...what a towering genius he was!!!
I agree, I performed in the chorus of this oratorio when I was Grad school-it was a highlight of my life so far, and an undergraduate in the chorus dismissed Handel’s compositions as being too literal and obvious. I just laughed to myself, what a simpleton. Unworthy of the slightest response. ❤

I couldn't believe my ears the beautiful combination, The singer I know sheis exceptional and has one of the best techniques in voice control I've ever heard.. The last thing is Handel. On my book he is at the very top. I don't know where he extracts these beautiful melodies. Amazing!

Absolutely wonderful. The pairing of flautist Emi Ferguson and Amanda Forsythe it perfect. Handel wrote such beautiful music and it would be difficult to better this performance from two very talented artistes.
Handel is one of my favourite composers, but not for the usual reasons. I love his counterpoint and phraseology as well as his progressions. I also love the ways his use of musical idioms. One can get very deep into the study of his music and always find new and delightful things. Even in his borrowings from other composers he brings something different to the music. When it comes to interpreting Handel, VoM gets it. They really have a handle on Handel if you will forgive the pun.

Although most recordings "balance" the sound, they don't reflect what the listener hears but rather a sort of idealized balance. An analogy would be if you put magnifying glasses in front of a painting--this is very useful, but usually done as a seperate detail so one can view the original unaltered.
No suitable superlative adjectives left! Hanneke and David, you are the ones who organise details and collate the logistics necessary to meld these people into the skillful and respected group it is that brings the finished product we like so much.
The harmony of the flute and the exquisite singing by Emi is an absolute joy the clarity the rising to the high notes full and volumed well and without stress and then the flute flutters in and out just like a bird flutters on the wing with intent or just for joy well done encore bravo and three cheers more songs like this please

Absolutely amazing! I have seen Forsythe several times in concert over the past ten years and she continues to outdo herself. This performance is perfection itself! The flautist pairs with her magnificently.
I have listened to this daily for the last month. It is comforting to hear such perfection in an increasingly imperfect world. Emi Ferguson is wonderful and Amanda Forsythe is superb as always. I am sure that Mr Handel would be most pleased that all the musicians have presented his genius with such clarity and beauty. Thank you.

However, after Handel (sic) moved to England in 1712, both the umlaut and German pronunciation were dropped and the name was anglicised (Georg also became George). You can see how Handel spelled and signed his name for most of his life if you Google the last page of the manuscript of Messiah, or indeed any other document. Another example is the Italian composer Giovanni Battista Lulli who moved to France aged about 20 and became a French subject about ten years later; he similarly changed his name to Jean-Baptiste Lully; like Handel, he is almost never referred to by his original name and to do so would be very odd.

It's great to hear Emi again on the baroque flute; she has an exquisite taste in her interpretations! I'd love to hear her rendition of the "Dance of the Blessed Spirits" from Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice. Amanda Forsythe is superb too - she has a warm delicate voice, and manages to get in more than a few trills too - very rare these days among singers; something which must be stupendously difficult to do (I am no singer, but I can only imagine)!

When you hear the strings starting to play then you know that it is G.F. Handel, the beautiful from God gifted composer of the barock!
