    Interesting. The idea of happiness seems to be strongly related with the idea of "positive process" and not the one of "state". That's food for thought.

    .U can attain a psychological condition of "NO THOUGHT" through meditation, which is nearly impossible ......... but the view of being happy forever is an outsiders view....... cuz the one who is meditating has "NO THOUGHT AT ALL" ... so finally A person in a state of coma is described as "comatose" oh! Im sorry as a "HAPPY PERSON" "Permanently "....

    If you want to see eyes just like that, look up "Maharishi Mahesh Yogi" on RUclips. He's living in the light (at least most of the time -- we're all only human after all).

    these things ...are already discovered by all the great sages of past dating back to 1000b.c or even back ...in all the great sacred books of almost all religions today.....come to the same point... .the essence is same be it philosophy of any religion or be it the Harvard's scientific study ...its just a different door in to the same "room of happiness/peace..... and that's what makes religion ...which is a step by step manual for self discovery of "that thing" which is already with in us. : )

    His statements are conflicting!
    Well the " assistant clinical professor of psychology " needs to know that "Happiness is only a temporary feeling" ---
    There is no way we can achieve Happiness for good!! To attain happiness "Permanently "....

  • @monkimind
    @monkimind 13 лет назад

    Initially he states that we may not have an ingrained propensity for happiness (1:21)
    However later he says that our propensity for happiness is somewhat hardwired (3:21)
    He needs to make up his mind before I can take him seriously.

    you want to find happiness in an indurant manor without haveing to studi 5 years psychology ok just buy a joint and you ill have about 5 hours of happiness trust me

  • @darkelf456
    @darkelf456 13 лет назад

    @monkimind What he meant at 1:21 was that it's not ingrained in us to be happy in general. At 3:21, he was saying that our level of happiness is determined by a genetic set point. That level of happiness may not be what you'd generally call "happy," and it's different for every person.
    Hope that clears up some confusion.

    brilliant interview with great quetions! that's the kind of psychologal research results people are longing to hear but never know where to look for. p.s.: of course, he means you should take the stairs instead of the elevator - not the other way round to maintain physical fitness ;)

    What makes us happy?
    1. Virtues
    2. appreciation
    3. living in moment-- smell the rose
    4. Engagement/Flow--- being in the zone-- doing for the sake of doing..
    5. living the life that is meaningful
    mindfulness--- technology --- awareness of present experience with acceptance

    I think that there is a happiness that could sustain us it would be our spiritual life. Happiness is not found through material possessions or through other human beings it has been proven over and over again. Have you noticed everything has its opposite: day and night, left and right, summer and winter, sad and happy, female and male. Ying and Yang its the law of the universe. We must experience both there is no secret to happiness.
