I have Yousician, its was an offer from my sister to my daughter to play ukulele, and i was in love with it because it felt like a game to me...spent hours playing. I saw that it had piano and commented to my sister how i would love to play piano, one dream of mine since being a kid. She offered me a Yamaha and use Yousician to play. But i really can tell it's more dificult to play piano then ukulele. But its good app and relaxing one because u can play simple musics since the beginning
Firstly, I love your videos and all the advice! I started on a plastic keyboard in SEP 2023 with an app called "playground sessions" and I have to say I love the App wholeheartedly! After playing for a few months I came across a lot of your videos and they really help me out / keep me interested. Took your advice and upgraded to a Yamaha P-225 and got myself a teacher and started taking lessons from around March. My playing has improved tremendously! I still use the App everyday and I still take lessons, but my biggest take away's from my lessons are - My teacher ,being an accomplished pianist, sees/hears things I am doing wrong that I was completely unaware of. Such as - I have an involuntary Pinky curl playing scales in my Left hand that I am making a lot of progress getting rid of. Never took notice before he pointed it out when I said I was having difficulty playing Em Scale quickly. That's something an App cannot do! Thanks for all the Videos and I look forward to the next one!
Great video with some useful apps mentioned. With respect to music learning apps I've been enjoying Flowkey. In particular the function that enables you to isolate a particular section of the music paired with the wait function so you can really get a small section right before moving the selection along to the next part. Getting it right also includes showing you which fingers to use as well as obviously the actual notes.
Pianote - Musora - I use Pianote and though I have limited time to practice - I like this program and feel the yearly cost is worth it for me. I would like to find a music teacher, but not until I can commit to practice more. Thank you for this video, very helpful.
Buddy, you are awesome. I would just ask you to slow down a bit, since English (UK English a bit more complicated) is not my first language. Thanks for all your content!
Wow, RUclips recommended your three year old video and then your current one. Big improvement in presentation. At first I didn’t realize it was you in both. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
I found that piano teachers can be very judgemental about your playing. They dont encourage you to follow your dream of becoming a professional musician. They like to crush your hopes and dreams.
Because they know that the best fuel able to carry you until excelence is the very hate you have against them. They despise you because being supportive can only get you to mediocrity. Have you ever seen the film Whiplash? That's the spirit.
I think Simply Piano etc. does a great job of teaching you the basics and getting you motivated for playing/practicing. Piano teachers are more valuable but also fucking expensive
Expensive and unnecessary at first just to use the piano and get started which would take days and days I feel that I am saving money to learn basics then maybe later after I know how to read play put my fingers coordination between left and right maybe I will use an instructor to fix my technique
on the apps section, I have used simply piano before, but I have severals critiscisims to it, I do however really like playground sessions, the selection of great sheet music and the tools to learn it are great, as well as accompaniment if you are into that, endded up getting a lifetime subscription myself and I really like it, the advanced type of music feels really good and compleat, even though advanced actually means "begginer advanced" I would say from a broad piano skill standpoint, still sounds great
open your piano. the best thing i ever did on a real piano is taking of the front lid to se the HAMMERS and their distances in a chord. the keyboard can be distracting but the hammers are clear halftonesteps. just like on a guitar.
Great video! Getting more and more apps to help me learn the piano and reading sheet music. What do you think about the learning journey Pianote offers? I'm a total beginner and currently using Pianote myself.
Flowkey did not work for me. Why? You end up just guessing. Frustrating. Ive tried both piano with jonny and pianote. With both i got frustrated and ran out of steam. The promises they make are quite ridiculous.
extremely useful, Is there any app which can give me a score on correct notes and timing based on sheet music? Point out errors and wrong notes. I can connect my piano using MIDI or USB to Computer / IPad.
Is there an app that shows me notes on the stave and uses phone microphone to tell if I played it right? Kind of like advanced microphone-enabled music tutor for notes recognition.
I'm not sure that a metronome is all you need for learning rhythm. Yes, a metronome will help you to learn how to play in time, but it doesn't help you identify and follow rhythm notation. Is there a good rhythm app that helps with note durations, where the beat falls, polyrhythms, swung notes, rhythmic patterns like claves and shuffles, time signatures, dotted notes, slurs, beams, etc.?
ty for the overview would pay a teacher since most of you are arrogant narrow minded human beings which we all are to find a decent piano teacher equals treasure hunting i dont have time and resources simply piano taught me so much and its gui is what every developer should take into consideration building an educational app will check tone ty
There are quite a few throughout this video that are free…Music Tutor, MetroTimer, Piano Chords and Scales, IMSLP… But for step-by-step learning apps, the best I’ve seen is a free trial period.
Musescore free version is already huge. And hem hem with the browser addon you can download the PDF and MIDI for free. Though you can't download the Musescore software sheet for free sadly.
What do you do if you don't have a tablet or don't want to use your phone? I have a laptop(mac or windows) and a midi controller, which app to use for that?
One good thing about Simply Piano is it provides a fuck tonne of sheet music to learn from which basically means it is serving two purposes.
Money.

Thanks for the Music Tutor as I want to master sight reading.

The tips you give are top notch
This video equips me with everything I need to lay the foundations for learning piano.
Thank you Matthew! 😊🙏
It would be interesting to know your opinion of Roland's piano app.
I found that piano teachers can be very judgemental about your playing. They dont encourage you to follow your dream of becoming a professional musician. They like to crush your hopes and dreams.
That’s a nasty trait isn’t it
Not all
😂😂😂
Because they know that the best fuel able to carry you until excelence is the very hate you have against them. They despise you because being supportive can only get you to mediocrity. Have you ever seen the film Whiplash? That's the spirit.
How many have you tried though?
Should people avoid all piano teachers? 🤷♂️
This is really helpful

Simply piano is amazing
I agree. I tried some others thinking they might be better, but came back.

Great video! Getting more and more apps to help me learn the piano and reading sheet music. What do you think about the learning journey Pianote offers? I'm a total beginner and currently using Pianote myself.

Thanks, I was looking for an app that did what the music tutor app does.

Every app is free if you know where to look 🫣
Is there some that teaches the song "After All These Years" by Silverchair?
The Piano Marvel app as mentioned in a comment below isn't free.
What do you do if you don't have a tablet or don't want to use your phone? I have a laptop(mac or windows) and a midi controller, which app to use for that?
Not sure why my reply was auto moderated 🤨 Look for something called Bluestacks. There is no equivalent for Apple though.
I keep trying to reply to this and it keeps disappearing grr. Bluestacks.
