Beautiful video, Matthew! Thanks for reacting!
Regards
Lord Vinheteiro!
Well hey 👋 Thanks and thank you for the great content 😊
Yo Vini you’re great❤
LORD VINITIERO KKKKKKKKKK
I like with all the songs he just stares in the audience"s soul
@@kianmehr9045I'm guessing you're a feminist from your pfp? Well here's what Vinheteiro has to say in one of his many tweets about them: "Feminists are fat and ugly"
8:31 Pachabel’s Canon in D is normally requested to make violinists cry.
Playing the violin is enough to make anyone cry 😂
Pour one out for every cellist that has to play this piece at an event.
No, to make cellists cry
@@matticawood ...or to make the audience cry 😆🤣
I think it made Vivaldi cry.
"Maroon 5 ruined canon in D" is the truest statement ever said
I agree
Definitely one of the worst radio hits of the last 5 years
The family guy version is pretty cool
i just realized that song is based off of canon in d 😭
Pachelbel ruined canon in D
Give this man his own Steinway. He deserves it more than anybody for his amazing content!
Moonlight Sonata 1st movement is pretty easy, beautiful and harmonic, so it obviously will be overplayed. But, the 3rd movement, which I am learning right now is making me cry😭
Edit: oh it was easy after my teacher explained all the arpeggios.
Real man 😂😂😂
The whole movement is like arpeggios, but my fingers cant memorize them😭
@@Magzhan-o3s 😂😂😭😭
You can say the same thing of the Prelude in C if you want to try the Fugue afterwards
The calm before the storm.
8:08: Yes, Pachelbel's Canon was written for string quartet, and it is a pain in the neck for the cello: 52 bars of playing the same eight notes.
And it is so popular, because it is so simplistic. And if you replace the G in the seventh accord by Em, you get Streets of London.
But the most famous canon in existence is Frère Jaques.
I'd argue that Row your boat is an even more popular canon.
I didn't even realize that "Canon in D" was in Maroon 5's "Memories" until he pointed that out. Now I can't unhear it. :|
They just use that chord progression and a bit of the melody, many other songs actually used the chords due to their compelling movement! :) (Maroon 5 definitely ruined it though and that is coming for someone who basically plays Canon in D every morning, that's how much I love it)
@@jasondeddens Man! Dedication! I can also see why so many electric alarm clocks use a variant Canon in D as the alarm.
Vinheteiro is such a vibe! What a legend!
Until you hear what he has to say about women.
Bach's Prelude in C was actually a sort of tutorial on playing figured bass
Canon in D is a very fun song to improvise on, and the simple chord pattern makes it good for beginners
This is like a sad but true situation
You might enjoy reacting to Twoset Violin's videos featuring Pianist Sophie from Austria: Hardest piano pieces and two videos of epic performances.
I think one of the most overplayed pieces is also Turkish March by Mozart, it almost makes me shiver with cringe when i meet someone who tells me they don't know any harder piece than that. I mean i get it but like it's so overplayed that i grew to hate it.
I never thought about that
Thanks Matthew. This is a really nice way to look at this topic. I have never liked the way (classical) pianist scoff at some of the music in this video and I really started hating the snobbish elitist behaviour some youtube pianists have towards some of this music once I started trying to learn the piano myself. You're never too good for any music, especially not as a teacher.
Well said. I like the acknowledgment here that some songs deserve to be "overplayed." Unfortunately, much of the professional music world is plagued by elitism. It's up to us to buck the trend! What a silly idea, that we should change what we like because too many other people share our taste.
From my understanding of video games, they always Rush E3
Beethoven be like "I have composed something much better. Why you guys just play Für Elise or Moonnight Sonata 1st Movement? Pathetique! Well Sonata Pathetique dose count either"
how is turkish march not in this video?
I was today old when I learned that the name of the silly piano piece my mother and I used to play when I was about 7 - 8 y.o. is called Heart and Soul. We referred to it as Chopsticks.
I think canon in d is composed with gigue after?
I've never played "A Thousand Miles", at least not yet. However, I've sung it for karaoke.
Also, a former piano teacher of mine made a full piece out of the knuckle song, called "Hot Potatoes".
When is A.I. going to write Piano music on demand? Or is it already doing it
god that jumpscare at 0:42
Personally I think that Fur Elise beginning is a great piece for beginners to learn how to use a pedal and when to stop much rather then from any musical aspect
That’s funny! I’ve never heard knuckle song before!!! You say it’s a piece for those who don’t play piano? In my country we have Dogs’ Valse instead 😂. By the way, it was very pleasant to listen to your speech! That’s what we called in school perfect pronunciation!))
Prelude 1 is the most beautiful piece of music ever written, so it simply is not possible to over-play it.
I don't play piano myself but the only thing I can play is "Soundscape to Ardor"
Does Rush E sound like the introduction to some video game songs?
As a rock/rhythmic musician I would definitely write the Moonlight Sonata in 6/8 instead of triplets!
Damn you played A Thousand Years ‘early in your piano playing’? It was released in 2011… now I feel old… (!)
“A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton - it was released in 2001 😊
@@matticawood Oh I got mixed up! Had to look up the recent ones. Yiruma’s one was 2011. Cheers, now I feel a bit better. ;)
His state into the camera makes me bust out laughing lol.
Heart and soul for me is just "La Mer" By Charles Trenet
Canon in D is something professional violinists hate. Twoset Violin always rip it off.
Lord Vinheteiro is technically perfect, BUT what I miss is warmth and empathy in his playing. As an example of what I mean: watch the piano scene in Spielberg's movie "The Pianist" ruclips.net/video/jHfQCfUTlXE/видео.html or the at this time 19 years old Yuja Wang ruclips.net/video/4l1bs5hlnYk/видео.html
I guess it's just his style. He has said in some interviews (in portuguese) that he hates over-expressive players.
Maroon 5 may have ruined Pachelbel's Canon in D Major, but JerryC made it more awesome by turning it into a rock arrangement
ruclips.net/video/by8oyJztzwo/видео.html
Pee-ah-nist 💀
At least I pronounce the “t” on the end 😉
I am suprised that Chopsticks wasn't included.
Lalaland epilogue
I just used google translate to translate his channel name and it means wine maker
10:52 is that Markipliers' face ?
"Most overplayed pieces" = some of the most beautiful songs.
Go figure.
Why didn’t they put nuvole bianche💀 it should be number one
Brazilian stare. 😳
Don't get me started on Fur Elise. Ugh ugh ugh!
Это ж Гудимов
250th like!!!!
Hello Matthew! Vinheteiro as a pianist is one of the greatest alive, like, everyday he inspires a lot of people to play the instrument and be in love with it. Even I years ago started following him and even got a piano to play some classical pieces.
However, in the last years here in Brazil, he started supporting the far right, and frequently goes to far right podcasts or radio stations (like Jovem Pan) and also hate speech against the "brazilian funk" about their songs, traditions and customs. Basically, he does the same thing that horrible people did to jazz, blues or soul musicians throughout the 20th century.
Could you react to akmigone playing piano? He has quite a peculiar arrangment style
River flows in you is overplayed because of twilight
Hi can you react to Tom Brier: "Korobeiniki", and or "peril in pantomime", and or "Blue Lampshade".
Thank you, I'm your fan from Mexico 😸
Il check them out 😊
he is a supporter of the extreme right here in Brazil. Additionally, he tends to diminish other popular styles of Brazilian music.
we need more reaction videos, ive watched all of your reaction vids and ive only been watching you channel for like two weeks
Nah, bro played the knuckle song wrong lmao
It’s a harder song than it looks 😉
Overplayed is the worst and most idiotic term that could be used for music. A musician creates a beautiful piece and people want to hear it but you dislike it because too many people know it? That’s asinine. That’s like saying the Mona Lisa is over looked at.
It's not because "too many people know it"
It's literally in the word "over-played" it's played waaay too often. Usually not by choice as well.
If da vinci is forced to paint the mona lisa every other week, he'd hate it too.
@@CaptainChu but that analogy doesn't make sense because nobody's forced to listen to/play these songs. the fact that they're so recognizable even centuries later is just a testament to their beauty more than anything else.
@@perfduck yes they are lol.... that's why they're very disliked.
I watch (and mod) many piano streams daily and the amount of times these songs gets requested, as well as popular songs like golden hour and rush e. I would often turn away from the stream when they are being played. And this is for youtube streams, where the pianist can decline if they're tired of the song.
Now imagine if you're a wedding pianist/string player... you would absolutely hate canon in D.
The songs themselves aren't bad, and the people requesting the song probably haven't heard it on piano a thousand times already. But it just gets really stale for the people who have heard it often already
@@CaptainChu don't. fucking. listen. to. it. turn the stream off. nobody's forcing you. this is a you problem. you're the one ruinging it for yourself.
Most of these aren’t actually songs.
What.
9:36 impossible!! lord vinheteiro gave us a little smile
😮
I wanted to tell you, here in the description, that I think this JVKE piano song has been played way too often. 😉
By him lol
Nah
Lord Vinheteiro always makes me laugh 😂
Another great video! Thanks!
The woman playing Heart and Soul couldn't hold it.
Lord Vinheteiro is amazing as musician, but he really shine during interviews and podcast. If you don't understand Portuguese, you are missing at least 90% of his best content
Totally agree. Whoever is reading this, use AI or close captions to see his interviews, he’s a genius!
I was surprised that Piano Man or Walking in Memphis didn’t end up on the list. I hear those all the time
overplayed for a reason.
I think there are three reasons why "The Entertainer" became so played: (1) The movie "The Sting" (1974) which brought the music of Scott Joplin back to the Public's attention (although I prefer the solo piano version of "Solace" over "The Entertainer"), (2) it is in the Public Domain so any can play it, and (3) it was one of the early songs played via computer, On my Commodore 64 computer there was a music program and one of the songs included was "The Entertainer".
It was also used in a lot of old cartoons
0:40 that actually scared me
bro same 🤣
Jump scare 👻😏
Vinheteiro aparecendo em grandes canais! Esse músico é um dos orgulhos daqui do Brasil, fugindo de tanta coisa musical podre que temos aqui...
Thanks!
Hello from Brazil 🇧🇷
O funk arruinou a música brasileira do mesmo jeito que o hip-hop arruinou a música americana... uma bosta
Rush E not being in E makes me question my existence
yo bro u have really good consistency and you are definitely going to make it big. This is only the beginning, and the journey only gets better I appreciate ur work
in my opinion Nocturne in E Flat Major and Clair de Lune are overplayed. Nocturne because a ton of aspiring pianists learn it and Clair de Lune because its just good and the beginning is easy to play.
An easy way to categorize piano pieces into two categories of difficulty: Vinheteiro doesn't need to look at the piano while playing it, or he needs to.
Add ”your song” and you have covered 100% of my repertoire 🤣
It's pronounced "vigneteiro". Gn like in "lasagna" and hard Spanish R.
I guess you mean the spanish ñ.
*i definitely nailed that* yes u did😂
i absolutelly agree with your opinion about River flows in you
I've played and listened to so many times that I just cannot apreciatte as I used to
How dare u using sustain in a Bach piece
I learnt two simplified versions of The Entertainer with 2 different teachers. I played it pretty smoothly. I would have loved to learn it in the proper stride piano style though.
Heart and soul was stolen by Carmichael. According to family, was written by Amy Braynard, my great Aunt who was a commercial organist and composer. She couldn't afford a lawyer to fight for it. We had other songs of hers in our piano bench as kids.
new fear unlocked: lord vinheteiro face
"Overplayed" piano pieces being played again and then again in the video. Haha! I love it!
Proving the point 😂
@@amadeosendiulo2137 Exactly!
toccata and fugue Bach for organ
Can't believe chopsticks didn't get an honorable mention
There's more than one piece referred to as Chopsticks.
1:04: Cut time isn't necessarily 2/2, it can also be 4/2. Alle breve just means that the halves are the metrum, rather than the quarters as in common time.
Even with all the flak Canon in D receives, I'll always love it. I don't care what people say, it'll always hold a place in my heart.
The most overplayed piece when I went to school and had piano lessons was the Amélie soundtrack.
And the "everyone knows it" piece here is the Flea Waltz (German: Flohwalzer). Similar to the Knuckles song it only uses mainly black keys with a few white ones inbetween.
Those flea dance a strange kind of waltz, though. The Flea Waltz is in common time, whereas any human waltz is in compound time.
David Bennet made a great video highlighting all the uses of the Canon in D chord progression and I was surprised to see Bananarama in there LOL
2:58 sounds like an anime ost
Back in the 70s when I was learning, every kid had to get the simplified arrangement of The Entertainer, with just a single bass line plus the melody. Another one that was popular in the late 70s or maybe early 80s was Music Box Dancer, a piano solo piece that got some radio time and some popularity. It seems to not have had as much staying power, but might be one some actual music boxes. At first when I saw the words Prelude in C Major (which I have played), I was thinking of Chopin's Prelude in c minor, which is one of my go-tos when I want to wallop on a piano with some big chords, then finish with a whisper.
I had forgotten Music Box Dancer. Now I'll have to forget it again.
you might consider making videos staring from above your glasses.. 🤦♂️😅😅👍
I wish matthew would put time stamps on his videos ❤
I get you, it's similar to how Stairway to Heaven is a so overplayed but also teaches guitarists to play fingerstyle.
Matthew's hands,.. like watching a duet by a couple of Alien face huggers.
Now, see if you can shake that image.
Having only played 1 of these 10 "overplayed" songs makes me feel like one of the misfit toys
Or maybe I'm just that original
You're welcome everyone, I know it must be an honor to meet me
did you know that LVB transcribed into notes a Tinnitus he continuosly heard inside his brain? Most likely the annoying, least interesting, opening. At least his Tinnitus had some modulation!
An example of one note being played over and over like rush e is in Hungarian rhapsody friska with the c sharps
name some music (or music shape technic )is good for left hand chord practicing
You look more like Anton Ego from Ratatouille when you imitate his stare.
Played can mean to play the track not necessarily played in the piano
I just remembered pachabel rant
As far as “Canon in D” in pop music goes, I think GLC’s “Your Missus is a Nutter” (itself sampling Serge Gainsbourg’s “Cannabis”) is my favorite example. I know this is a stretch, musically speaking 😂
I don’t know this - am I going to regret searching for it? 😐
I don’t think it’s TOO rude, so it would depend on your tolerance for such things. I’ve known a few people like the one in this song, so it could just be familiarity talking.
Chopsticks
Songs?
Why just ride on the back of another 'Tuber'?
You don’t watch my content do you 😂
Matthew, I was going through all of them and when he did knuckle song I already thought about #10. That was my first song I could creatively do either part along with the all important Jaws, Close Encounters and Pink Panther themes of my day.
Fun fact, only piece that Lord V had to look at was The Entertainer piece. So I guess he’s not a big ragtime guy and didn’t have the song memorized.
Love your work ❤
