The prominent female backing vocals are provided by another Swedish musician, Fia Kempe. The only time Ghost has ever performed this song live, Fia was on stage with them, along with a choir. Fia is the lead singer of the band The Great Discord, also from Linkoping and good friends with Tobias. Imperiet (as noted) was the original artist, and I believe this song is very well known in Sweden. It’s a beautiful cover, and very faithful to the original.
Afterwards I looked it up on RUclips and found Imperiet's version. Very similar feeling, but I like how Ghost modernized it!
I was at that concert :D
🇸🇪
I’m not a Christian by any means, but this song always makes me tear up. I think it’s one of Tobias’s best vocal performances to date. I interpret the song as a warning about mankind’s destruction by our own hands via nuclear war. We made fire, we built cities, cities turned to empires and became industrialized, and in the reach for something bigger, it’s all destroyed in a rain of nuclear fallout. I find it interesting that this song lines up with the themes of Impera pretty well, and keeps with the idea that time is cyclical and not linear. I felt like the reference to the 7th day is as a reset button on creation, not necessarily an ultimate end.
Yeah it uses Biblical references but it's not a religious song. It's a parable about how humanity ruined the earth with industry and war. Thåström has apparently found god in later years but when he wrote this he was very much not religious.
This is a great cover but the original by Imperiet is something special. I recommend this live version: ruclips.net/video/7Kh-N_ymHLo/видео.htmlsi=Vtg7rDg8gQkQ5cjA
Agree with you and antivanti 100%
You nailed it!
I belive its a secondary meaning for nuclear war. Man leanred how to make fire, and the kindles walls were extended; then,A Rain fell over the land, but no walls could stop such a rain. I think the whole thing is man rising and inevitably falling, using Babylon as a reference of humanity in it's current state. It's a very thought provoking song in so many ways and I love it
It is actually absolutely about nuclear war by a band called Imperiet from the 80s.
Additionally, both bands are Swedish, hence ghost would nod to a band that came first.
I Think this is one of Ghost´s best covers they Done. Love this song.
It's a cool song and it spurred a big discussion around the lyrics! I'm glad we did this one on Easter weekend :)
The scripture verse at the end of the song is my favorite. It presents the notion that a being who makes no “mistakes” actually regrets his actions which actually imply that it does actually make mistakes. Which then brings up a whole deeper question
'Bible' have a similarity with the new album IMPERA: the ascendance of the kingdoms and their falls. Babylon, Alexandria...
This is one of my top covers by them. Very beautiful sounding, interesting lyrics, can't wait for the reaction. I hope you guys had a great Easter weekend. 😊
I saw them live for the second time yesterday on Easter Sunday and it was quite an experience!
I just want to say I appreciate y’all actually engaging with the content instead of dismissing it out of hand because of its aesthetics.
Beautiful cover indeed. Tobias has such an amazing voice... it's perfect for pop, metal and rock. Great video as always, love your channel and the Ghost reactions (that's why i suscribed haha but other stuff is always welcome).
I love how this song doesn't use the "day" motiff the same way Genesis does, but takes it and creates a new story about the past, present and future of humanity!
Cause since the song starts with earth already having been created, this is basically a sequel to the story of creation
It was a very thought provoking song and prompted a good discussion! Can't ask for anything better than that from a song entitled, "Bible" !
Omg I just saw them live tonight!!!!! It was incredible!!!!!! I cried so hard when they started playing imperium....... Ghost rituals are so peculiar in a way that feels like.... Idk safe? Anyway I'm so happy rn! Good to see you
Another cover to check out that is epic is It's A Sin. It came out only on a deluxe edition for Prequelle. It's actually released only in specific countries too. RUclips does have the song though.
Oh wow, I have a lot of videos to catch up on and my lunch break is only so long...
Yes! I'm so happy you guys got to Bible! It's such a beautiful cover! One of my favorites of their covers! Not to mention the lyrics are interesting. I really enjoyed the discussion you had afterwards. Excellent video!
Like another commenter mentioned, I hope you guys do end up reacting to concert footage as well later on. Ghost is such a treat to see live.
Beautiful song
I absolutely LOVE this cover. Fans seem to be very mixed on it but the moment I heard it, I added it to my Playlist.
Another great reaction....great song by ghost..
I am so happy you are on the journey through ghost discovery with their songs.
Keep it up love all your vid reactions
Thanks man! Really appreciate it!
I forgot how beautiful this song is! I hope you both and your children had a Happy Easter♥
One of my favorites. good choice
Great job. Absolutely an excellent song/cover
Thank you kindly!
Excellent video as always. Great song and I loved your take on it. However, my favorite part of the video was the Flame Imperishable song clip from the title screen. Can’t wait for the album!
Thanks! You and me both! Won’t be long now!!
Great work guys, I was hoping to get your take on it. Thank you and have a fantastic week!
Thanks! It was an interesting discussion afterwards! Great song!
okay so i clicked so fast when i saw the title! my favourite ghost song
nocturnal me is another great cover, would totally recommend
also if you're interested in more religion/church criticising lyrics - idolatrine is the song to go to
btw i really hope you're gonna start reacting to live shows after hearing the official audios, it's a must do especially monstrance clock with the little papa speech at the beginning
This song makes me want to cry, is so beautiful
The chorus says “now who will pray, for Babylon.” And then the last line in the chorus says “on your knees for Babylon is faaalllllinggggg!”
Also, a very simple way to put Ghosts whole shtick is that Christianity has a Papa in the form of Jesus Christ. Someone who spreads the word of God. So Tobias went, “why doesn’t the other side have a Papa?” And that’s what Papa Emeritus is- is the Papa of all evil. However, yes they are against corrupt churches who try to hide their past and how the religion has evolved over the years. For example The Catholic Church is so nice now and “not corrupt” (I’m sure it still is) compared to their evil past of torture and all that. Tobias calls that out and how almost all religions are contradictory.
I've alway interpretated the lyrics of this song to be a metafore for mankinds relation to nature, with the technical development vs enviormental issues, global warming and that kind of stuff. Like when you reach the tipping point your skyscrapers and technology won't help you. Nature will have its way.
The ending of the song is in the Bible! God sent rain for 40 days and nights to rid all the corruption on earth. God says in the Bible I regret making humans.
Congratulations by the channel to Brazil.
Even a cover, Bible is on my top 5 songs of Ghost. Phylosophic, orchestral, beatiful, rich, critical... one of the most richest songs of the band. This songs learns our humans sins behold God, since Eden's Garden...
I'm not crying, you are!
?
@@FlameImperishable this song is so powerful i sometimes start to cry 😢
"I'll never torment earth with water ever again"
*Global warming ensues* I guess fire it is, then 🤔
If you like heavy guitar and beautiful piano mixed. React to Wolf Moon by Type O Negative… the band is no more since the lead singer died few years back but you would enjoy it it dark mixed with horror/fantasy
He's mentioned in interviews that belief in the devil is belief in God by default. It's an acknowledgement that there's as great a good as there is evil and you can actually take comfort in that knowledge. It suggests that if there's truth to the devil t's also proof of heaven and an eventual reckoning. It's like a Trojan message that reaches people who wouldn't otherwise listen and gives the listener an opportunity to explore whichever direction they desire.
Did you guys check out the original song yet? Imperiet "Bibel"
Another good song for Easter is Behemoth Rom 5:8 talks about Christ being reborn. It’s referred to Romans 5:8
Great reaction, interesting thoughts and I think Ghost did put a biblical/satanic interpretation about this song. I am not sure that was the original meaning. Imperiet was a rock/punkrock band from sweden with a lot of lyrics about politics. They had a left kind of view and I suspect the lyric is about todays world and capitalism, imperialism (funny when you think about the name of the band but the name is from star wars actually). So the biblical story I think is allegations what is happening to our world. This is my thoughts only, have no interview but Thåström (the guy who wrote
The song).
Tobias Forge like swedish punk music and he even played punk music in sweden so i guess Ebba Grön and Imperiet is the band he like. I guess it just just only that. When i think about it i want too se Joakim Thåström performing with Ghost.

This is good but you should listen to the epic band Imperiets original version in Swedish called Bibel. We Swedes grew up with it during the 80s , Imperiet were huge in Sweden and the lyrics aren't about God and his creation, it's about the horrors of nuclear war and is very political like all their songs. They also made a English version but I prefer the Swedish one. "God's voice" was added to Ghosts version.
Please react to It's a Sin, it's a beautiful cover
Time too do some black metal if you guys are into that...emperor..satyricon mayhem early 90s..but i will keep watching whatever you do
How about some Borknagar?
@@FlameImperishable there one band I never played attention too..actually never heard any of there stuff
The original ruclips.net/video/7Kh-N_ymHLo/видео.html
The song uses Biblical references to tell a story of how humanity ruined the Earth with industry and war, but isn't a religious song. Thåström who wrote the original may have found god now but in the 80s when he wrote it he was decidedly not religious
The days are NOT paced to the 7 days of Biblical creation. It compresses all of human history into 7 days.
Did you watch our video? We discussed that exact thing. 👍
Sorry, I commented before the end. My bad.
Love the song. Thx for reviewing.
Ah, no worries, glad you enjoyed it! :) Anyway, I thought it was a cool idea to use the 7 day creation to break up different historical events in human history.
While the original song may or may not have had a meaning similar to what you were thinking with "pray for Babylon", when Ghost picked it, they probably meant it more as, try to tell the people causing so much pain and destruction in the world on both a human and environmental level (some under the guise of Christianity) that what they're doing is wrong and try to get them to change their ways before it's to late. In the modern secular day, our Babylon (the world) is falling (being destroyed via war and climate change, mostly to line the pockets of a few powerful people with no care for who or what they hurt in the process because they are without moral. You don't have to be Christian to have morals, you just have to be a good person, and any good person alive today can see that this world is headed for bad things. It's the fall of Rome on a global scale unfolding right before our very eyes.
?? The writer is most genuinely not actually religious himself. It is thoroughly meant as a criticism of the believers/practitioners and their hypocrisy.
There are two different orders of creation in Genesis (long explanation as to why), and the Adam and Eve order doesn't gibe with either (two different stories of Eden)... Wow, that's not what got me a theology degree.
You patiently listen to our Satan music we can tolerate some of your Jesus talk.
Haha, I love it! ❤️
But but but…. The scriptures were not written until after the flood. So what laws did the people of earth break after god threw them out of the garden? Either way, the evidence against your Guy looks really bad.
Different interpretations of the Bible? Perish the thought. Lol. 😇😉
I guess if you're trying to literalize the Bible, you would end up with thousands of denominations. Oops wait a minute....😮🤐😇
Imperiet's version is way better
