Hi Jewel Congrats to you! I am very inspired, interested in achieving goals. To encourage us , females young and seasoned young. B-Blessed & keep Growing!
You know you could've taken alot of your leggy oysters, dried them, ground them into a powder, and used a couple excerpts of information from "the fungal pharmacy" by Robert Rogers to try to get people to buy them that way. Some people even use the powder as breading
Wow. You are one brilliant Lady. You are amazing and fun to listen to because you make it sound so easy and practical. But probably too expensive for me to start that business.
Have you looked into the sterilization technique Paul Stamets has figured out regarding anaerobic to aerobic pasteurization? I don't believe this tech is in his books unfortunately but he talks about it in some of his lectures. Basically you soak straw or wood chips in still water for 2 weeks. This causes anaerobic microbes to flourish and take over the substrate. After 2 weeks you drain off the water exposing the substrate to air (oxygen) which kills the anaerobic microbes basically pasteurizing the substrate and at this point is ready to be spawned. Pros: you obviously don't need heat which can be costly. Cons: it takes 2 weeks but could easily be a non-issue if well planned into your production flow.
Hey jewell. First off I wanna say thanks for all the videos you’ve been pumping out these past weeks. They are very helpful and much appreciated. I’m looking into upgrading my Pressure cooker to one of those drum steamers so I can produce more. Thanks again, keep on rockin. Mushlove-Gee
I can see that shes thinking about 1,000 things but only able to vocalize* about 10% lol. It's like shes activily doing visual inspection and just rolling with the punches on video. Man, I really love this channel.
Are you still making videos for mushroom growing. Most of these are in 2018. Great videos by the way. I am just starting and waiting for my first kit. I will grow that and then scale up from there.
@Jewell's Funki Fungi ... would using softened water in substrate be a big no no? I feel like the sodium would mess things up from growing. what about non softened well water with a high nitrate content? .. mycelia will feed on nitrates but so will bacteria. .. thanks in advance and super thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
I am so very grateful for all your videos and showing us everything about this business. I’m in ct and looking to start a business with 60k could you show us the process from lab work in detail to the steam room. Do you keep buying your culture?
Hi Jewel, I have 2 acres and was think of start a mushroom grow buzz ! I live in southern Cali medium high desert . I love growing food as well and I want a job that I can do from home so I can spend more time with my family . Do you know if there is a large demand for gourmet mushroom where I live . After all California's number one gross product is agriculture
Hi there, I was wondering, what do you do with your used substrates? I heard that it is a good compost for agriculture, is that right? DO you know what the benefits are? Best, Laura
Hey Jewell, having a hard time finding 55 gallon drums, (not sure i wanna steam in petrochem drums anyhow) i CAN get one of those long galvanized tubs. HOw are you generating steam to pump into it? Just laying stuff on top of it was enough to enclose the bags?
Can you use shredded cardboard and hay for growing mushrooms? Also can you make your own bags with a fine mesh window for air in your blocks? I am a newb. Just curious. Thanks
Is the GFCI weather-resistant/proof? Just wondering if excess moisture may have entered the receptacle and tripped the circuit. Code requires GFCI protection if a receptacle is within 6 ft of water pipes or if it’s in a wet indoor location. Weather-resistant GFCIs have safety shutters installed to stop foreign objects from coming in contact with the electrical contacts. It should have a WR or WP displayed on the corner.
James Bloodworth interesting. Literally we put it on the outlet less than 24 hrs prior to the video. The outlet is in a dry room (lab) outside of the grow maybe 15 ft from the light/fan. I had to take it off until I can figure it out. Fingers crossed no electrocution 😬
Jewell's Funky Fungi as long as it was properly installed and the receptacle isn’t flawed, no worries of electrocution. I apologize if my tone sounded matter-of-factly, as that was not my intent.
The time it takes to trip can also be indicative of the nature of the fault. Instantaneous can be a wiring issue (short in the wiring or improper installation), whereas a delayed trip is more likely an overcurrent issue.
How do you store your mushrooms until you ship them to customers? Do you just use a normal fridge at the moment until you can afford a walk in cool room? cheers Jan - Goolwa Shrooms
Hey Jewel, thanks for all the great vids. Did you build your sterilizer? Is there plans? And what are you using for the steam? I would love to see the inside? Thanks and keep up the good work!
Rick Myers hey thanks! I don’t and probably won’t do a video on the steamer because I didn’t come up with the idea but you can check out a video from Fungi Ally on it 😀
Thunderbolt Farm Pleasure! Sooooo, I was going to build wood shelving and I got one done and said forget about it. Brought over my old ones and bought more on top of that. Since the video this morning I took all the shelves off the bottom rack for better cleaning. I was getting under there daily with a hose but couldn’t scrub it good
A lot of what I see your using are work lights most are halogen and use massive BTU’s you really should think about installing LED whenever you can as you get your money back usually less than a year. Cheers
Where do you get your soy hulls. You're situated in the northern bay area ? I've searched a bunch a can't find where to find soy hulls to purchase by the 40-50lb bags
Wait are you from Baltimore? I am, and I am really interested in starting to grow oyster mushrooms. I would love to tour your facility if you are in Baltimore and/or talk about starting an oyster mushroom farm.
You may want to add a couple of streamers to the front of that fan so you can see that on your security camera ?? Missing you videos lately, hope I always offer nothing but support and helpful comments. Cheers
I'm new to growing mushrooms (I just start inoculating some jars with oyster) does the light affect the process of the germination process ? my kit said it might cause early pinning and then they might get stuck in the jar and die?
Adds no comment on the full body selfie shot at the beginning...ummmm...or the hair flipply thing a bit later...just sayin'. Lol, thanks for the awesome content Jewell. Good to see shroomer shrooming :D
To the Lovely, brilliant, and talented Jewell: Bravo, I truly admire you. Lol ignore my stupid name it’s my junk mail email address for signing up for random stuff haha. You have worked so hard and it paid off. You’re proof of that concept. And you should be so proud of yourself. Hell you should be giving speeches on entrepreneurship and business. You’re amazing, will you marry me? Lmao or maybe some insight instead? Intro: I am finally going to start up on my operation. And I’m not starting with much, but there’s a lot I’m going to do on my own for data collection, and automation. I need a flow hood ASAP or a way to make one, but don’t know what kind to go with. Question begin: How do you feel about the ones that actually have the fan on top, and the plexiglass around it. I found one for $100 that’s around 6 ft long so I can do a lot inside, but These seem better for dealing with cultures and things along that matter. Or should i stick to the standard one that has the filter facing you. Lol I sound stupid describing them but it’s so confusing to use their technical names and use horizontal and vertical descriptions, I promise haha. Added info about these acquired filters: I actually got 2 amazing HEPA filters for free but they were designer for a machine and customized. They are 12”x12” but are rated at 99.9995% which is nuts, Imfigured I’d sell them seems like they sell for a lot but only if used for that machine, so I am hoping to see around $450 at least and buy what I need to just make a standard myco laminar flow hood. I plan to do a lot of work with agar so I want something perfect for that and bagging. Please any advice? Right now I’m unemployed but waiting start a really good 1st real job, and I want this as a second job with a partner. I’m into innovation and science, so that andnthe business end will be two main roles. I’d like to have a nice place like yours and contribute as much as I can to the community. There’s so much about mushrooms we can take advantage, Health-wise being the biggest, and I’d rather see small businesses that large corporate style places, and organic. Rant : Maybe that’s what’s wrong with American diet we have too many large corporations that industrialized too many areas of producing food rather than many small ones that care more about the nutrition and supply. That’s just a random rant sorry.
Yeah fck that.... I'll just keep one little grow tent for a small scale hobby type deal, just big enough to grow for myself and friends. Big grow rooms look like a pain. I'd rather experiment with breeding strains, genetics, and super small scale mycoremediation experiments and or making supplements, because for alot of supplements all you need is the mycelium.... not the fruitbodies
Honey your hot mommy!!! Too bad your married. But hey I can admire you from afar!!! Love your videos. Find you refreshing and enjoyable as always god bless and hope your always as happy as you seem!!!
stochastic24 so sad in America nobody can pay anyone a compliment without others degrading, demeaning, and ridiculing the compliment! Very sad day indeed! Guys say all kinds of stuff about singers and stresses all the time, but nobody is sitting back saying those comments are gross??? Why then is a compliment such a horrible thing??? Are you or have you been so mistreated and or me lined your thinking is that warped ??? Perhaps you should ask the receiver how she feels about a compliment like this? Hi Jewel
Congrats to you! I am very inspired, interested in achieving goals. To encourage us , females young and seasoned young.

This was so informative - thanks for this behind the scenes look. And congratulations 🎉 on your hard work and resulting success.

Yeah you’ll be so happy with a sterilization upgrade 😃
you explain things so very well
thank you
I can see that shes thinking about 1,000 things but only able to vocalize* about 10% lol. It's like shes activily doing visual inspection and just rolling with the punches on video. Man, I really love this channel.
Impressive set up.
great video, i think you need waterproof/outdoor electric sockets and extensions, maybe just a bit of condensation tripping that gfi
Are you still making videos for mushroom growing. Most of these are in 2018. Great videos by the way. I am just starting and waiting for my first kit. I will grow that and then scale up from there.
great video and place looks nice.. congrats on the upgrade
very inspiring! Im a newbie and hopefully will be at your level one day

Looking good and kicking butt, great job on the hard work.
Hi
Thanks for taking your time making these videos, just subscribed today. Exactly what I needed to start!
Lexicon 2020 Thanks I appreciate it!

Thats alot of investment very elaborate high tech setup very impressive did i mention shes beeeeeautiful?

I’m interested to know how you avoid surplus. Do you have contracts or individual orders? Great videos! Keep on growing.
Your videos motivate me , on a small scale where did you start at ? How did you grow to this point .

I know you said the fan was the only thing plugged into the outlet, but what else is running on that circuit?
If it is tripping the gfci and not the breaker that would indicate it is not an over current on the circuit.
You’ve come a long way from the little farm!
LEGENDESS
Hi Jewell, I was wondering if you use grow lights for your mushrooms and if so what kinda and how long do you leave them on for? Thank you!
How do you store your mushrooms until you ship them to customers? Do you just use a normal fridge at the moment until you can afford a walk in cool room? cheers Jan - Goolwa Shrooms
You could do an entire super model video 🙂
Hey Jewel, thanks for all the great vids. Did you build your sterilizer? Is there plans? And what are you using for the steam? I would love to see the inside? Thanks and keep up the good work!
Rick Myers hey thanks! I don’t and probably won’t do a video on the steamer because I didn’t come up with the idea but you can check out a video from Fungi Ally on it 😀
Jewell's Funky Fungi Thanks Jewel, I’ll have to check them out.
Thanks for the video! How are your HomeDepot grow room shelves working for you?
Thunderbolt Farm Pleasure! Sooooo, I was going to build wood shelving and I got one done and said forget about it. Brought over my old ones and bought more on top of that. Scott Sutton nope they’re LED too! From Home Depot I used them in the last grow but this is a lot more space so I have the strip lighting too
Wow mist system..hmmm..I envy your mate..
Where do you get your soy hulls. You're situated in the northern bay area ? I've searched a bunch a can't find where to find soy hulls to purchase by the 40-50lb bags

What are the "pellets" ?
Very informative but
Shes soooo beautiful
I'm new to growing mushrooms (I just start inoculating some jars with oyster) does the light affect the process of the germination process ? my kit said it might cause early pinning and then they might get stuck in the jar and die?
Can you explain work is performed in your lab?
They grow up so fast
Earth Angel Mushrooms yeah, my “master” spoon fed me tons of information over the months so I’m 9 months old going on 21:)
I dig it
What misting system did you go with, and how many cu yards is the batch mixer?
Batch mixer is 1 yard & I have a high pressure system from Aeromist
Do you do any outdoor mushroom grows?
👊👊

poor ben....
Way too expensive of a setup. Low overhead is the key. Think about how they farm oysters in Cambodia
What specifically is too expensive about the set up
You are literally the hottest woman on the planet.
Honey your hot mommy!!! Too bad your married. But hey I can admire you from afar!!! Love your videos. Find you refreshing and enjoyable as always god bless and hope your always as happy as you seem!!!
Scott Sutton Like I said yesterday...you are hilarious:)
Gross.
