Mike , love your Bass neck adjustment method, I like my action as low as possible, which makes my fretting hand so much faster with practically no fatigue.. great for tapping, too.. I will definitely apply your techniques.. Thanks Mike !! 🎸 🎶

Question for you Mike : Would you say this is your go to method of fret leveling for all basses in general? Or only for the ones that you spot with a troublesome neck? Thank you for sharing your knowledge

The neck to body junction ..is without a doubt .. the most common fret dress. It gets a bit trickier when there are random issues, along the lay of the neck.

Thanks again ...I have a new Sandberg bass coming for a fret level . so much for the factory plek machine . The Bridge saddles have to be ground width wise also because 2 of them don't reach bottom of the bridge plate . just shotty work right from Germany this bass came from . They don't take time to make things playable with lowest possible action .

Fender is no different here. Manual work is expensive and they try to cut the corners. I bought a Fender American Pro Jazz Bass and I was prepared that it likely will be in need of some love before I will be happy with it.

@@richsackett3423 lowest action is great...especially after i've been playing since 1978 . less stress and i play fast riff's. I see your point BUT lowest possible action is the Zero or starting point for customer . They can play with higher action for more tone and less fingerboard gymnastics if they wish but you have to that adjustment range to get there for any style of play . .004 - . 005 '' at 6th fret when holding down 1st and 12th fret is Golden for me. I run my E string height at 4.5/64'' and my G at 2.5/64'' . But I have a light touch after 40 plus years...Shit i'm old !

Agreed. I set them up so that you are able to adjust for the lowest possible action. It always easy enough to raise it up to where you prefer ..... once the frets "along the string path" have been levelled.

Mike...Question Please : what did use to determine the neck was in the best / flattest position after you taped and retuned before placing the hockey puck lifters . I do have those neck straightedge with the fingers that goes between frets , but your system does not seem to need them at this point . thanks . FR

I was away this week Frank. OK ... so to get the lay of the neck ( with full string load ) as straight as possible; I hike up the bass (nut ) to "nose level" so I can "Sight" the neck along it's full length for straightness ( it is best to close one eye ) ... then sight along the edge of the fingerboard from the first fret to the last on the bass side. Then repeat this again on the treble side. A 20" straight edge will give you a good read on the full length. Once that( straightness ) has been established ; I proceed with the smaller straight edges and search out all of the discrepancies along the string path of all strings.
