"Hooked On A Feeling" and "Another Done Somebody Wrong Song" are great hits by him. I used to LOVE this song when I was a kid. It just made me so happy.
Hooked on a feeling is my favorite.
Me too! Totally reminds me of my childhood.
Did B.J Thomas or Blue Suede do Hooked on a feeling first?
@@jessortiz8181 BJ Thomas did it first
Ty kimmy I always wondered about that
My dad and BJ were life long friends. Growing up around him was such a pleasure for me...our family misses him deeply. RIP BJ
Wow! That's so cool! I was so sad when he passed.
Sorry for your family's loss.
Did he live in Oklahoma very long ..his bio hints that he basically grew up in Texas?
@@tinanickerson1006 Yeah, he was born in Hugo but grew up in Huston & Rosenberg Texas.
The song makes so much sense with him growing up in Houston because you can’t do anything about the rain there. It will just chase you up the steps. 😅
This song always reminds me of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, a movie starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford that featured this song. Great movie that you guys should add to your list!
yes, they should!
That scene was totally referenced in this season of Ted Lasso. A brilliant little Easter egg for all of us! ❤️
If you don't know him,he was the guy that sang this hit after it was turned down by elvis.😮
Love the song!! You Have to watch the movie!!❤
Definitely see the movie. It is a must see for everyone, whether you like westerns or not.
The wonderful songwriting of Burt Bacharach.
Can I also thank you both for all your song reactions. You guys are literally the best
Bacharach and David were a match made in Heaven.
They also produced the song.
Jay & Amber, you'll love his "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song", "Hooked On A Feeling" and "I Just Can't Help Believing"!!!
edit- Raindrops... was written by legends Burt Bacharach and Hal David who wrote a bunch of great Dionne Warwick songs!! (like "Walk On By").
I still have the 45rpm record. Those were the signature horns of many Burt Bacharach compositions. Thomas grew up in and around Houston, TX.
Yessss! Absolutely!!!!
If you’re my age (old) your Mom probably loved this guy!!!
My Mom sure loved him… makes me think of her…
RIP MOM!!❤️
Agree 100% on your suggested next BJ Thomas songs!
Yes
@@lindaporter7288 thanks!
When this song was released in October 1969 it was a hit, but when the mega-hit movie “Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid” came out in December 1969 this song ended up selling around 300,000 copies a week, and stayed a huge hit song for 3 years.
This is a great song, featured in the movie "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" Western with humor and great performances.
"Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" would be a good candidate for a movie reaction, come to think of it. It is a solid Western from the 70s based on a true outaw gang and the cast has heavy hitters of the time, Paul Newman and Robert Redford. I'd love to see your reactions. :)
@@bluehole8691 actually, I think that the movie came out in 1969.
Hope they react to this wonderful movie!
Came here to say this!
B.J. Thomas had the flu and had a temperature of 102 degrees when he recorded this song. He was very sick. You’d never know hearing this.
Oh how my mother loved this cat. His voice melted her like chocolate on the fire. RIP mom. She would have been 84 on the 7th of this month.😢
Wonderful memories for you. 🙂
So sorry 😞
@@laurabailey1054 thank you❤
@@Latnman101 thank you. Great mama she was. It is appreciated .
Another beautiful song by Burt Bacharah and Hal David! This song is from the movie Butch Cassidy and you guys would love to watch it. The bicycle scene in which this song is played is a classic! (I had a crush on B.J. Thomas when i was young. He was so handsome😂... Other great songs of his are Oh me, oh my, Long ago tomorrow and my favorite: Songs).
"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". You forgot the Sundance Kid. One does not simply forget the Sundance Kid.
@@aWorldview Sorry, you're right. The thing is, here in Brazil the film was released in theaters about 5 or 6 years after its release in USA and only with the title Butch Cassidy. They must have thought the title was too big for Brazilians to pronounce. 😆
But I would never forget Sundance Kid, after all, I fell in love with Robert Redford in that movie! After him, no man was good enough. And I was only 13!😆😆
"Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1969.
@@kmach1000 , you must have appreciated that the last part of the movie was set in South America.
@@straycatttt2766 Yeah, Bolivia, right?
This song was co-written by one of the most successful and prolific songwriters ever: Burt Bacharach. He is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures of 20th-century popular music. Bacharach wrote seventy-three U.S. and fifty-two UK Top 40 hits. He won six Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards, and one Emmy Award. He had a long association with the singer Dionne Warwick; most of her early hits were his compositions. He just passed away in February of this year at the age of 94.
I love B J Thomas. “What ever happened to old fashioned love” is beautiful. B J has a dramatic life story - well worth checking out.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hooked on a feeling
Mighty clouds of joy is another good one
What happened to him????
@@maryford4346 Success and drug and alcohol addiction almost brought ruin to B J Thomas until he became a Christian and his life was turned around. He died from lung cancer in 2021.
One of my MOST FAVORITE singers!!! His version of "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" makes me cry but his "Hooked On A Feeling" is so awesome!!!
A few years later, Blue Suede would add that "Ooo-ga-sha-ga" routine to "Hooked On A Feeling" just so theirs would be different...
He died last year from lung cancer, sadly. But two other classics by him you need to do are ‘Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song’, ‘Rock and Roll Lullabye’
BJ Thomas was born in Oklahoma but grew up in Houston. He won a Grammy for this song "Raindrops," and a few more for inspirational and Gospel music.
You can’t divide this song and THAT scene from Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. ✌️
Music was written by Burt Bacharach, who passed away just a couple months ago. Along with lyricist Hal David, they wrote MANY hit songs mostly in the 60s and 70s
💜💜💜 I have loved this song since I was a young girl! He also has some other great songs "Hooked On A Feeling", "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song", "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and "Rock And Roll Lullaby".
"Lullaby" is so , so good
LULLABY IS MY FAVORITE...
Hooked On A Feeling is a great song. I concur
The man was influential in my life as a young man in the sixties. Great music and vocals.
This is the theme song from the movie BUTCH CASSIDY & THE SUNDANCE KID; that was one of biggest hit movies of its era, and this song won an Oscar for best song. This was a huge hit on the pop charts as well. BJ Thomas has sung a zillion songs including dozens of hits as well as commercial work too.
BJs "Hooked On A Feeling" & "I Just Can't Help Believing" are well worth a listen to. 👌 ❤🎼🎶
Love B.J. Thomas!
this one one of the HUGEST songs from my youth.....EVERYONE would always sing along!
Oh I’m “SO” happy that you’re reacting to this song!! So popular!! I think it won a Grammy!! It’s also in the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”!!!
This is part of the huge catalogo of Burt Bacharach/Hal David songs. They composed numerous hits, helping make stars our of lots of artists, most notably Dionne Warwick. You must dig in further into their music.
I've been requesting their Dionne Warwick songs on occasion. Timeless music!
I agree that while BJ Thomas was great, the real reaction path to follow is through Burt Bacharach’s catalogue (and on many of his best songs, Hal David provided the lyrics).
Yes!!!
Agreed... I love Walk on By (Dionne Warwick)... a truly great song!
Thanks for mentioning Hal, I mentioned Burt in another comment but they were a writing team and I didn’t give him the credit he deserved
Awwww a classic!!!! Such a great song. Played all day on the radio when this came out! I JUST CAN’T HELP BELIEVIN” one of his best!! You would love it!!
That’s my fave!
Have you all seen the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” that’s where the song came from! Love this song…we use to sing this in school and learned all the words so we could sing together! Fun!
❤yes!
This song brings back a lot of great memories.
RIP: B.J. Thomas!😢
Nope. As soon as I saw that Jay and Amber were doing this song the image of Butch, Sundance and a bicycle jumped into my mind.
B. J. Thomas has such a great voice and a ton of hits!!
He also sang the song that Blue Suede did “I’m Hooked On A Feeling “(remember uga chucka)
B. J. Thomas 1969
Blue Suede 1974
BJ Thomas is one of the greats. He has so many great songs, but his gospel music is really something special.
Awww, I love BJ Thomas! Definitely check out some of his other classics -- "Hooked On a Feeling," "Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song," etc. He had a gorgeous voice. While he was born in Hugo, he actually grew up and went to school in suburban Houston, not far from where I grew up. Sadly, BJ passed away in 2021 from lung cancer at his home in Arlington, Texas.
I Just Can't Help Believing - beautiful heartfelt love song
B.J. Thomas charted 26 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1966 - 1983, reaching the Top 10 5 times. Burt Bacharach & Hal David's Oscar winning Best Song "Raindrops" ( released in Nov. 1969/peaked @ #1 for 4 weeks in 1970) was one of Thomas's 2 #1 chart hits (the other was" (Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" (1975). The latter won a Grammy for Best Country Song.
This guy had an incredible voice like no other! He never got the respect he deserved - such a natural as a singer - many people attributed his fame to the writers of most of his hits - suggesting that other singers could have achieved the same noteriety with such great songs - but his fans knew better - he turned good songs into fantastic and memorable music! RIP Mr Thomas!
B.J. Thomas also had a successful career as a contemporary Christian artist, with some really awesome songs. I love "Mighty Clouds of Joy." Such a distinctive voice!
That particular song is what I suggested in my post two days ago which was shadow-banned by these reactors.
@@timcarr6401 , are they shunning it because it's a Christian song? If so, that's not only a sad commentary about the character of these reactors, but it's also clearly religious discrimination! Grrr!!!
Sounds a lot like Do you know the way to Sanjose by Dian Warwick
This was the #4 best-selling song of all of 1969. I remember the song well.
BJ Thomas was an incredible artist!! You should also listen to "I Just Can't Help Believing," "Rock and Roll Lullaby," and "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song"! BJ had a major battle with drug addiction and turned his life over to God, subsequently recording a lot of contemporary Christian music. His testimony of how God saved and rescued him is one of the most powerful I've ever heard. Great reaction, as always! Looking forward to hearing more from BJ!! ❤
Classic song! Be safe tomorrow; possible severe weather in your area.
This is one of the first songs I remember...ever. My dad used to play Burt Bacharach and Hal David songs on the piano when we were little and this was one of them. He'd play and my mom would sing. There is a whole catalogue of incredible Bacharach/David songs to explore here. I'd love it if you gave *This Guy's In Love With You* a listen. I promise you won't regret it.
Oh yes, "This Guy's in Love" -- Herb Alpert proving that he was not just a great band leader, but also a great singer. And you can't go wrong with a Burt Bacharach/Hal David song.
I never knew he sang that until a couple of weeks ago.
That trumpet at the end is classic Bacharach. Whatever Happened to Old Fashioned Love and Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song are great follow ups.
A great song! This was part of the sound track for the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", a good movie you might want to watch.
Fabulous vocalist. Go down his rabbit hole. Lots of quality hits. Very good friends with Elvis.
He has so many great songs. Hooked On a Feelin’, Can’t Help Believing, Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song,
The best though is Rock and Roll Lullaby.
I am so Lonesome I could cry was his first hit, a remake of a Hank Williams tune that really shows off his vocal range. I also love his hit somg I can't help believing.
One of the purest lyric deliveries in the history of music.
First time I heard this song was while walking through a Gemco department store in 1971 or 1972 as a child. I always remembered that moment because of the way he says "'cause..." instead of because. For some reason that always stuck with me over the decades.
ah gemco. good times. you must have been in the cali bay area!
This guy isn't just a good singer with a good voice he is what you would call a professional vocalist and watching him live it's remarkable how he uses voice control and microphone placement
Always loved the part of the movie where this played!
This is one of the first songs this 60 year old woman ever memorized! LOVE IT!
I remember my third grade teacher/nun writing the lyrics to this on the blackboard and teaching us to sing it around the time it was a hit. Besides church songs, I think this might be the first Pop song I learned the lyrics to.
And NOW you guys have to watch Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid!! Thank you for reminding me about this great singer!
This song was not just a #1 song, it won an Oscar for Best Song, in the film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (a film worth watching)!
One of my favorite songs❤
His song, Hooked On A Feelin is another great one, especially since it was used in the earlier Guardians Of The Galaxy movie.
Different time and era, is what makes songs like this great.
This was a huge hit for BJ, if you were alive in the USA in the early 70s you knew this song! It was on the radio all the time! Thanks for the reaction!
Rest in Peace: B.J. Thomas and Burt Bacharach.
B.J. had 28 songs reach the charts on way or another.
BJ Thomas had a fantastic voice. So many of his songs to cover. He did a great version of the song "Hooked on a Feeling" and "I Can't Help Believing." Those good to start your deep dive into this fantastic artist!
Another Burt Bachrach classic! And BJ Thomas--what a great voice and singer.
Love this classic. Jay and Amber You'll love "Hooked on a Feeing"
I have always loved B.J. Thomas's voice even when he was with the group. Plus he was so handsome. His voice is soulful and is so wonderful to hear.
Always great singer was lucky enough to see him in person in the park ayear before he past away his voice never changed RIP BJ
Born in OK in 1942. This song, written by Burt Bachrach, was released in 1969 as the title song to "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" - which I recommend for your viewing pleasure, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. The song won the Academy Award In for Best Song in 1969. In 2014 the song was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame. Other nice songs from BJ Thomas include: "I just can't help believing" - "70; "Hooked on a Feeling" - '68; "I'm so lonesome, I could cry" - '66. RIP May 2021.
Everyone was singing this back when it first came out.Hooked On A feeling is good,as Another Done Somebody Wrong Song is too.
My 60's crush!! "Hooked on a Feeling" and "I Just Can't Help Believing" are must listens!
Love this song. B.J has such a strong and gentle voice.
When this was big on the radio my 3 year old son fell in love with it and would sing it at the top of his lungs. That sweet little voice singing was such a joy. He couldn’t hit the high note though he tried, He is nearing 57 years old now and his voice is still a joy.
So many great hits by BJ Thomas
His songs Whatever Happened To Old Fashioned Love, Hooked On a Feeling,(Hey, Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song, and Rockand Roll Lullaby are all great!
You gotta do The Eyes Of A New York Woman, Hooked On A Feeling and I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. Also Billy And Sue, I Just Can't help Believing. This guy had an absolutely magnificent vocal ability!
You've struck a vein of Gold! Another good one Amber will love is "I Just Can't Help Believin"
I remember my Mom loved this song when it came out. This song was inescapable in the 70’s. My Grandma even had a music box that played this song. This track always makes me happy.
so did my grand ma
Bj was one cool singer loved his music he grow up in houston tx
B.J.Thomas hit songs:
1.I Just Can’t Help Believing
2.Rock And Roll Lullaby
3.(Hey Won’t You Play)Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song
4. I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry
This song was used in the western "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" Starring huge Hollywood Legends, Paul Newman, and Robert Redford. Maybe a Movie for your future film nights. Great Western based on there real lives.
BJ Thomas was such a great singer!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pure and wholesome. They just don't make singers like him anymore. He passed away last year and raindrops fell on my lap. I think this song was for the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid staring Robert Redford and Paul Newman.
I just can't help believing & The eyes of a New York Woman are a great place to hear more of B. J.!!!
Another great Burt Bacharach song. The guy was a genius.
Just like others before me: "Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" and "Hooked on a Feeling" are a must!
One of those songs that stay with you for the rest of your life from the moment you hear it for the first time.
He does a wonderful cover of Hank Williams Srs I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry
Oh he was such a handsome guy and a heart throb. Very talented song writer! You should check out
“Hooked on a Feelin” and “Just Can’t Help Believing”. They are sooo good!
“Rock & Roll Lullaby” & “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”....... 💯🔥🤙🏽😌
B.J. Thomas was one of the great voices of my generation, a Christian man when died, check out 'Hooked On A Feeling', 'The Eyes Of A New York Woman', 'Billy & Sue'... he's got a whole litany of hits!
"Don't worry baby" and "Throwing rocks at the moon" and "Mighty clouds of joy ".
written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Billy Joe Thomas was born in Hugo, but grew up in the Houston, Texas area and resided in Arlington, Tx until his death. "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" was from the 1969 movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford and won the Oscar for Best Song. Other hits by B.J. Thomas are "Hooked on a Feeling", "I Just Can't Help Believing", the 1966 cover of Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", "Hey Won't You Play Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song", "Whatever Happened To Old Fashioned Love", and "New Looks From An Old Lover". He also sang with Jennifer Warnes the theme song from the 80s TV show Growing Pains, "As Long as We Got Each Other".
He has a great vocal performance with the song rock and roll lullaby. Definitely worth a listen👍
This song use to play over and over in my head in high school
He was my mom’s favorite! Try out “I Can’t Help Believing”, “Hooked on a Feeling”, “Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song”, or “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”.
Hooked on a Feeling and Another Done Somebody Wrong Song. He has a very pleasant smooth voice. BJ Thomas.
This song won best song at the Academy Awards, and I believe he performed this song while rain was actually pouring on him.
This song was sort of my and my mom's song - because I had big feet as a child. Eventually it faded away..flash forward 50 years, she was in hospice with end stage dementia and I played her this song on my phone. She remembered through closed eyes. Miss you Mom.
"I Just Can't Help Believin' and "Hooked On A Feeling" are both stellar songs that B J Thomas sings.
(If you do watch Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", this song was a award winning song from that movie")
1978 6 grade music concert we sung raindrops keep falling on my head, suicide is painless "theme to mash " and danced to the hustle.
You should check out the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Paul Newman & Robert Redford). The movie made this song a massive hit.
One of my all time favorites.
Talk about memories. My dad made me play this on the piano every time we had company. (My sister loved performing, I hated it) 😂
I want to say this was from the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” I just looked it up and that statement is correct. Wiki says this song was Number 1 for 4 weeks and was the FIRST Number 1 son of the 1970s. Just a little trivia.
BJ Thomas was in choir at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas. My brother was in choir with him. Thomas was part of a band called The Triumphs in Rosenberg. They used to practice close to my house.
What I like just as much as his voice is the use and placement of horns and keyboards. Perfect blending of vocals and instruments.
Was that Herb Alpert on trumpet?
Other popular songs by Thomas include "Hooked on a Feeling", "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song", "Don't Worry Baby", and "Whatever Happened to Old-Fashioned Love".
And Thomas grew up in and around Houston, Texas.
This song was from a FANTASTIC movie (a true classic) starring Paul Newman & Robert Redford, "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid". Great movie, with great acting, and a fantastic musical soundtrack (from the late '60s). Hooked on a Feeling and Rock n Roll Lullaby (Amber will love that one) are 2 more good BJ Thomas songs.
Yes she will!
I saw Johnny Lee in concert at our county fair back in 78 or 79. Mickey Gilley, Kenny Rogers, Loretta Lynn, Alabama, and Eddie Rabbit all did shows in our little Bloomsburg PA, community.
This song was not only BJ Thomas' first #1 hit of his career, but according to Billboard Magazine, this song was the first #1 hit of the 1970s. By the way, this song spend a total of four weeks at the #1 spot during the winter of 1970. This song is his biggest hit song ever!!! RIP BJ Thomas
this was the first grown-up song i learned to sing at about 5 yrs old and every time i went to visit my grandparents they made me sing it for them
