The cops are sooo naughty ... my filter gloves are coming off! ... Consciously counter steering does turn your bike in quicker and you will hold better lines through corners. Great vid 🩷
I did a similar course up here in Perth and we had comms set up so could hear the copper commentate on his ride. It was amazing hearing him point out all the things he was looking out for. The detail and forward vision he was using was incredible. As a relatively new rider at the time it 100% improved my riding. Couldn’t recommend it more.
I did mine with the Met bikesafe back in 2015 and it was great, learned a lot. A free posh lunch included as well. I would also recommend IAM or ROSPA as well.
Lovely vid. Loved your last BikeSafe course so this was lovely to see on the 8R. Did my second one in my 8R “Jixsy” in June. Great day out would recommend. Thanks Liz great channel.
Looks like a good productive day was had! @14:19 looked like a good, legal overtake to me! Good restraint going into the bend, not committing to the overtake before you had the visibility. Had the space to come back in if needed, but kept the position for visibility and to commit to the overtake once it opened back out! Also your side was broken white lines, so all good!
Countersteering is especially handy when you encounter something mid corner that you weren't expecting. Either you're running wide, or there is a fallen tree or an animal you need to go around, intentional countersteering can allow you to do rapid evasions easily. This also applies to having to dodge things when going in a straight line, like cars pulling out in front of you. You will be shocked how rapidly and sharply you can turn with intentional countersteering. Practice it every chance you get, because when you need it you want to be able to do it without thinking.
It was worse the first time I did it, this time it was less intimidating and more annoying because I kept checking for Sarah and he was in the way of my view 😂
What a good day, well done! Must say you were in a bit of a devilish mood😅 Back in the 90s if you bought a new Fireblade or CBR 600 Honda gave a MAC course ( motorcycle appreciation course) for free where you had 2 days with a Police rider out on the roads. My first day was pouring with rain and second was lovely and sunny. Both days we did over 200 miles. Like you I really loved it and reckon could be a life saver. Have to respect those Police riders. Great content. Cheers.
Good video the police motorcyclist’s as far as I’m concerned are very skilled and best riders on the road very very skilled riders from what I’m told and the speed I’ve seen them ride in winter time on sodden wet roads with bad vision is incredible they are amazing riders but very safe riders best of luck to you and hope you can learn a lot ride safe take care
Did I see correctly at 19:12, the police rider ignore the keep left arrows, overtake on solid white line onto opposite carriageway over a blind crest??
Hi Liz I’ve just come back from a very nice few days in Wales I did the Black mountain pass and would highly recommend you have ago if you haven’t already. 🤣😂🤣 I stayed at a beautiful campsite in my hammock next to a small river, the farm is called The wildman Woods it’s on RUclips. Anyway what police force was that with because every time I look on West Sussex web it’s always booked. ? Take care.
some of the bike cops around my parts have Teneres operation Yokohama. They train in a quarry i ride in but don't ride in anymore cos the police train in there. You can tell when they are so i go in other wooded quarry's cos im naughty. I did a bike safe thing with them few years ago now it was very insightful i learned more and became very self conscious of my road positioning. did drop my insurance a fair bit too.10/10 for vid
Haven't done this myself yet though do plan to the next time they're doing it here in S Wales, missed the last one due to work :D A good vid this though and highlights how people can ride much safer on the road even whilst madly filtering despite having panniers on :P Don't think I'd attempt that, I would if the panniers aren't on the bike like but mine are bigger than what the police use lol.
Great vid, some useful tips. You've mentioned the 'C' word, though, the internet will now explode. Oh, and is that a purple S1000R? My life is now complete but my want engine hurts badly.
I would love the cops explanation of crossing a solid white line,I thought there was no exceptions, ahwell hopefully I can use this video as a bargaining tool if I get caught😂
Counter steer should be done all the time. Not just when you need it. Really great video. Now you have done bike safe what about doing a IAM corse. ? 😊
Legal or not, we all break rules occasionally, prefer to not waste an hour of this particular day sat in a queue 😅 I am strict with myself about crossing solid lines (or going places where I’m likely to get stuck in traffic) so this isn’t something I’m going to do again 😇
Here’s the problem, Rule 129 states you must not cross or straddle the solid white line nearest to you unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) so I think what he did was legal, but I think it entirely possible that if I did that it could result in a ticket. It all depends on the officer you happen to meet
Thanks for the upload liz, but on many occasions how on earth the lead rider was able to overtake safely, when the police rider is on her right tail filling up the lead riders mirrors, is beyond me 🤔🤔
If traffic is stationary, or going at less than 10mph you "may" overtaken on a solid white line. However, there are two things to think about first; is it safe, is it appropriate.
Does the bike safe police do autum workshops too fewer people more chance of applying? If I feel pressured to make progress then I'll be quitting the course. Being told wat to do instead of thinking for yourself is why bikesafe is profitable. From a child to elderly all your life ur being told wat to do by employer, government etc..

Bikesafe is a great course. I did one a few years ago. Our classroom session also included basic 1st aid.

Fun and great vid Liz, it is never to late to learn. Keep up the great work! 😊

Great video and info. I would be nervous with the copper riding that close behind.

I must do this sometime...I'm often in the garage at Midhurst where the police and their ' pupils' gather. Cheers Steve

Went to go yell at the lorry for something 😂 he was way up front it probably wasn’t blind for him
@@R1_Liz yeah, it's often about perspective but if one of us mortals did that, we would be in court 🤔

Brilliant to watch😂
How much are these police training courses, I’m interested. Thanks. Great vid.
I think it varies from place to place, so I guess check your closest course, I think they’re usually around £80

What was the c word on this instance 😬
@@R1_Liz "Countersteering"
Thought I’d accidentally said cnut 🫢
@@R1_Liz oh, sorry, no! My bad!
When overtaking watch out for cars pulling out on the right ,turning left, behind the hedges that always gives the brakes a workout.
Turns out my filtering is spot on, and I always thought I was a bit cheeky 😂😂
Safer to be moving than sat in a queue I guess 🤷♀️
I would love the cops explanation of crossing a solid white line,I thought there was no exceptions, ahwell hopefully I can use this video as a bargaining tool if I get caught😂
Technically he doesn’t actually cross it so I guess that’s the explanation, at the time I thought he was but looking back - nope just me 😬😬😬
You can have all the road safety training on the planet until a plonker in a Range Rover pulls out on you. - BTW sure he saw me too 😬
Counter steer should be done all the time. Not just when you need it. Really great video. Now you have done bike safe what about doing a IAM corse. ? 😊
I think it happens naturally and I don’t pay attention, but paying attention means I can consciously use it
Rule 129 highway code.
I would love an office opinion on the legality of this move from 3:42 onwards.
Would a normal rider get a ticket for this ?
Watching back afterwards I realise he doesn’t actually cross the double whites, and the traffic jam isn’t moving so maybe it is ok 🤷♀️
He can do this at 10 mhp 😊
thought you were not allowed to straddle the white lines with either bike or body when filtering so this didn’t look very legal.?
Legal or not, we all break rules occasionally, prefer to not waste an hour of this particular day sat in a queue 😅 I am strict with myself about crossing solid lines (or going places where I’m likely to get stuck in traffic) so this isn’t something I’m going to do again 😇

What exactly is being done on your bike ?
A few things, MOT, warranty work on the forks (this is the slow bit), some other leaks, 24k service and *hopefully* a bubble bath

Really nice
Just as well get on an do your advanced with the IAM or RoSPA! 👍

Hopefully all the car drivers that whine about bike filtering saying its not legal watch this lol
