So without makeup there's really not much going on. However when I put on my everyday makeup, I look like a different person. I have thick eyebrows so doing them makes a huge difference, as does mascara and curling my lashes because they are long and thick, although invisible in their natural state. In addition I wear a neutral eyeshadow, a thin brown eyeliner, foundation to even out my skin, heavy-duty concealer for the dark circles, bronzer and blush to bring out the dimensions on my face and a natural lip color. The difference after this 20 min routine is drastic and for a sexier look, adding a little extra attention to my eyebrows, lashes, bronzer/blush and lips will make an even bigger difference, better than I think I can achieve with a smokey eye. In a way it's strange, because my eyes are my best feature, but without makeup they don't look special and with dark heavy eyeshadow they look off. But with something in the middle they stand out and I can't figure out why the middle road is by far the best result.
I have a series on faces that are not suitable for bolder styles of makeup (part 1 is lips which I talked about in the video but there is a part 2 which talks about eyes) - you should check it out! ❤

No, I can't say I agree. Feminine all the way! But either a bolder or a softer style can still look entirely feminine. I like to think of the contrast between women's hair, makeup, and fashion in the 1940s versus the 1950s. The former bolder style was a response to military and austerity circumstances demanding greater practicality, while the latter softer style was a response to a time of prosperity, peace, and more leisure, allowing for more luxuries. But both styles look unmistakably feminine!
Can you cover the JAW? I see science stating it as #1 indicator of facial attractiveness and how beautiful celebrities have different jaw shapes and prominence and what to do makeup-wise in this aspect (contouring, balancing features, etc). Thank you!! ❤️
I'll add it to my topics list! I do think that prominence in the jawline is very subjective depending on culture - I grew up in a culture where a strong jawline is considered highly undesirable, so I think it really depends on the perspective as well ❤
The media is constantly putting forward the idea that ONE single feature makes people attractive or is the most important feature in attractiveness. I've heard it said about the distance of your eyebrow from your eyelid crease, the distance of your philtrum (regular human length is no longer desirable - it should be as short a distance as possible, like a child's), the distance between your eyes, the size of your nose, whether you have "resting b*tch face," the clearness of your skin - anything and everything. Jawline perfection "science" is a new one to me though - I can't believe they managed to find a body part that hasn't been dissected already!
I think fluffy, full brows, a bit straight are always a gorgeous look. I grew up in the Brooke Shields era and that was my beauty standard, even in the nineties when it was the pencil thin brows 😂
My friends have told me I resemble Eva in terms of our facial structure, and even in this age of reclaiming a bushier brow, I always felt like I look better with a thinner more arched brow. Thank you for explaining this 😂
As a soft glam girlie myself I do think it is the best makeup for all. Highlight your features, balance your face, use desaturated cololor that suits you and you will have ypir glow up everyday.
I have a masculine face and it is a big insecurity for me, sometimes I feel like I'm not feminine at all... that I look weird with makeup on. I don't usually wear a lot of makeup to be honest, only lipstick, blush, and mascara. Using more than that makes me feel like a clown
I'm terrified of blush and contouring. I can't seem to find the middle ground between invisible and clown. Or maybe I don't realize the invisible isn't invisible? This. Has been the case for me at several different places with differently lighted bathrooms.
If you have really fair skin I can understand how even just a little bit of color can appear quite jarring!! The key is to choose the lightest color possible and to be VERY light handed. You can always add more but it's difficult to take some away if you start off with too much product!
@@stylerefinementThis! Plus finding the right blush undertone and saturation level. People tend to look better with a warm toned or cool toned blush, depending on their skin's undertone, and some people need a blush that's very muted in color and not super bright.
In the US masculine energy for female faces is extremely popular right now. Girls are doing jaw surgeries and Fox eye surgeries to achieve this look ( Zoe Cravitz, Madison Beer, Leah Halton and etc.)
I struggle because I have a lot of masculine features like prominent cheek bones, a wide jaw, big eyebrows and a long nose, but the vibe of my face is more cutesy (I’ve been told a lot I have a Disney princess face, mostly due to my eyes being the first thing you notice about my face). I feel like I look washed out with minimal makeup but I can look too harsh with prominent eye makeup, especially with my brows done. How does one balance conflicting features? What do you do when the essence of your face is more feminine but you have a lot of masculine features?
You've elevated the art of makeup to a science almost - I feel really nerdy hearing you explain all the hypotheticals, probabilities, experiments, shapes, sizes etc 😃 Love it ❤❤❤
I feel like my nose and eyes draw more attention. So I emphasize my eyes with some bold looks but not overly done; more so of a douyin meets soft grunge look. My nose almost has an illusion effect; from the front it's elongated, soft, and slightly narrow. But from the side it looks more masculine because of my straight high nose bridge. I hardly ever contour my nose because I feel like it doesnt need it but I use bronzer and or blush on the top of my nose to make it appear smaller from the side. Are there other ways to draw attention away from the nose.?
My features are very similar to Dua Lipa. When I was younger I could get away with a bold lip and mascara but now as I am getting older my eyes keep getting smaller and I absolutely need to wear heavy eyeliner otherwise they completely disappear on my face. If you can suggest any other way to make the eyes appear bigger without having to commit to full upper and lower liner every single day that would be extremely helpful. With getting older I also had to switch to a nude lip to draw the eye up to my eyes, which is sad because I used to really enjoy a red lip.
My eyes "disappear" behind strong glasses, and bolder eye makeup brings them out nicely. I prefer wearing glasses instead of contact lenses. I tried contacts a few times and didn't like how I looked at all. I try to find ways to work around it if/when I feel like wearing makeup. I can put on very over-the-top eye makeup (that looks *so* extra on its own) but when I put my glasses on, the overall look ends up quite balanced.
I've always felt the opposite with glasses. I thought the shadows of the frames always made my eye makeup appear darker - which for me was not good because I prefer natural styles of eye makeup as opposed to bold styles (my eyes can't handle it!) Interesting how we're all so different :)
Have to say her eyes are what lend that really sophisticated, mysterious look to her face - I think I prefer the slightly smaller eyes rather than big doe eyes, for this reason
I also look really sleepy with no eyeliner and it is such an issue. I wish I could just pop on a little mascara and a bold lip and be done with my makeup. I live in NYC and believe it not, very few women here wear heavy eye makeup on normal days. Just me.
I feel like my features are more clumped towards the middle. Is there a way to open up the face in the middle? Also with increasing in age I find my cheek volume is decreasing and so the area between my nose/mouth with my jaw line and distance to my chin is becoming increasingly larger - especially with less of the volume in my cheeks to pull that attention up. Any tips?
I saw Becky g getting her makeup done and she is the type that can handle heavy eye makeup. I was surprised how small her eyes appeared without eye makeup
Lovely and positive video as always ❤ Jenn, would you ever do a tutorial on who can wear red hair, thinking both of skin tone and general appearance. Oh, and also effects of levels of red such as the difference between Coppers and Auburn's for example? Quite a big ask! 😅 example?
So I find that the reason I suit bold eye makeup looks is quite similar to Dua Lipa's. Because I also have the textbook almond eyes that everyone mistakenly attributes to an Asian ancestor that I don't have. But actually are very similar to my dad's when he was younger. And surprise surprise he's southern Italian not Asian. I also have small eyes and thin-ish brows. They stand out because they're really dark. As my hair is naturally a deep brown. Aside from that I also wear glasses. Astigmatic lenses to be exact. Which are known to make the eyes appear smaller as I was told at least. I remember for example wearing contacts one day. And I had this stunning orange/mustard and magenta look on. My mom said it was too much and I'd get negative attention from it. I came home feeling extremely self conscious. Guess what I did later? I took out the contacts and threw on my glasses and bam! The eye makeup got severely less intense and didn't stand out as much. Almost as if I blended most of it away. What's so funny about this is after learning how to do a quick and easy liner I feel naked without eyeliner. I don't drag it across my eye but only do my inner corner and my wing to about a third of my eye. Or else it closes it too much. And my mom recently commented on one of my eyelooks saying it was pretty but really bland. It wasn't my style or me at all. "Because I'm used to seeing you with colourful eyemakeup. And this doesn't look like you at all!" funny how the tables have turned.
I agree with most of what you say except the terminology. Personally, I think referring to those features of hers as yang dominant rather than masculine would be a better way. I also think Dua's no makeup, or "no-makeup makeup looks" are among the more "feminine looking" Looks for her. It's the bold and glam looks that are hit or miss. They either make her shine in a glamorous way, or make her resemble a drag queen. And I can't tell what exactly in the makeup makes the difference
Thanks for the suggestion! Yin/Yang makes sense :) I noticed sometimes she adds even MORE to her already thick brows which I don't think is necessary, and I think it might be what's contributing to the more "drag queen" looks you mentioned!
@@Moonlitoblivion222 the reason I'm against it is that those women will grow resentful because their female features aren't "feminine", and that can be avoided by introducing the yin/yang into our understanding.
@@ang5798 How, by marketing it differently? Yang is another term for masculine in essence, but ( in the states at least) more ppl are unaware of that at first listen. I think videos like this are a fabulous way to have others accept themselves as they are through example. Feminine features don’t necessarily equate to beauty. All the women shown here are naturally gorgeous, but become even more so with additions. I think if anything it highlights the fact that masculine features are not synonymous with looking like a man. Appreciate your sentiment though!! No hate :))
@@Moonlitoblivion222 not really. Yang doesn't equal masculine, and yin doesn't equal feminine. That's the point. They aren't interchangeable, but other people using it in such a way made you think that they are. And you're not the only one fooled by the wrong use of those words I agree that there is nothing wrong with women having yang features, or men having yin features for that matter. I also don't think that using masculine *should* make women insecure. Unfortunately, it's still not exactly the right term, and I just think in a few year's time it would benefit everyone in this area of interest to learn about yin/yang instead :)
I’d like to see comparisons of the face size, bone structure or head size. I think there is a lot to be said about that. I’ve noticed that people who have larger heads or carry weight in their face tend to be more conscious of their weight. My theory is that you see your face in the mirror and pictures far more often than you see a full length body shot, and as such, you may or may not realize weight gain as quickly from the onset. Therefore if you don’t see the excess weight gain in your face you are much less likely to notice when you gain weigh. Height, head size, and long vs short limbs is fascinating to me.
Interesting ideas for sure! Never thought about it that way but now that you mention it - I'm totally guilty of this (weight gain is quite noticeable on my face)!
I watched both videos but I’m still confused: my nose is kinda fat at the bottom and it is short, my lips are small (narrow and a bit thin), my eyes do not draw much attention naturally and they are kinda hooded. I got that I should wear more eye makeup and I totally agree my nose really draws a lot of attention, so that means I should wear a softer lip color? because my lips are already small and wearing a softer color makes them a bit smaller, but I also find bolder colors to be awful since it makes my nose more notable.
It could also be your crease line - do you have a narrow crease line?? I find with narrow crease lines the heavier thick lashes make the eyes appear more closed off!
I tend to agree, though I like makeup as a way of expression so I liked the longer winged eyeliner look. Even among goth looks I tend to prefer if there's not a lot of makeup and white foundation as one into alternative looks.
So if your emphasis is naturally drawn towards the eye area, would we want to enhance the lower half of the face to balance? Or would that be based on the amount of masculinity/femininity that your face already has? And the more femininity one naturally has, then less makeup is needed?
Me too! I will happily do like 6 shades of eyeshadow, some liner, mascara and fill-in the brows for a natural makeup look but the smallest hint of colour on the lips is, like, whoa! too much.
Hello I am a new subscriber, I love your content! This video made so much sense. My eyes are my strongest feature, but I notice when I emphasise them with e.g. smoky eyeshadow, my face looks aged. But when I keep the eye make up light, but paired with a bright lip, my whole face looks brighter and youthful. Now I know why!!
I’ve actually never found Dua Lipa to be particularly beautiful/attractive. I always thought she was average-looking (for a celebrity who capitalizes on looks) and that much of her appeal was engineered marketing.
Maybe that's the case for you because she's not the so-called "conventionally attractive" (or what I believe to be American / Hollywood standard), but that doesn't mean she isn't beautiful/attractive. Her ethnic background is what makes her beauty so unique.
@@nna2341 exactly. If I knew her in real life, she’d be pretty, but her brand is based on her looks, which, while nothing wrong with them, aren’t exceptional or unique to my eye.
I've been compared to Dua Lipa in the past, except I can't handle that much heavy makeup. I have thick big large lips, and a perfectly balanced top and lower third, besides, I'm pretty tall and thin with big booty. These are my sexy traits, but I have too much cuteness on my face: big and rounded slightly hooded eyes, big cheeks even tho my face is oval, a very soft jawline, naturally straight eyebrows and not arched, and a small and rounded nose. What I try to do to give myself some masculinity without it being too unatural is to make my eyebrows much more full and dark, contour to make my cheeks look narrower and focus the makeup on the lips. With black eyeliner I look dragged down or swallowen even though I'm a dark winter, and ultimately, I find some sparkle in my eyelids looking the best than a Maddie from Euphoria look.
I am literally unrecognizable in full hair and makeup. I'm a 2 day to day, and a 9 when made up. That's that Julia Roberts face. It completely throws everyone off.
Thanks for the suggestion! I do already have "What makes you more suitable for shorter hair?" as a topic so I will note to use Taylor Russel as one of the examples :)
Dua Lipa has prominent/protruding eyes (similar to Kourtney Kardashian's only hers are almond shaped). Cara Delevingne on the other hand has deep set eyes (similar to Camerom Diaz and Mila Kunis) which gives her eyebrows more space to perform and make themselves noticeble. Meaning they go slighly more forward and thus bring more attention to them. It has to do with the bone structure around the eyes
@@stylerefinement no, not at all. When the bone that is between the eyelids and eyebrow is visible and goes forward and the eyeball sits deep and "touches" your eye bone it is considered deep set. Some other examples would be Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Nina Dobrev, Keira knightley, and Emma Watson. A lot of makeup artists consider that before applying makeup by looking at the profile but if you have an eye for detail you will see it from any angle.
Im hoping you will make a video about hairstyles for people with a long middle third. Because even though that is my longest point i feel like my forehead is what carries visual weight. Which i think is because i have blonde eyebrows and slightly downturned round eyes coupled with not much cranial height.
I have a video coming out this week that talks about long middle third a bit! You should also refer to my "Hair & Makeup Tips for Prominent Noses" video :D

Can you please make a video about pear-shaped face? I have a very long and narrow forehead but my cheekbones and jaw are on the wider and heavier side. I would like to have full temples and v shaped face so much 😢
She can handle more make up because her features are so … rich 🔥 if you don’t have strong features like hers you can easily look like a clown with more make up, but her features can hold it together. She is very beautiful. The contrast of the colors, sharpness of her bones and fullness of lips gives her a balanced look.
I've been told that I have "buggy eyes" as well as "doe eyes" can you do a video about these? Bonus if any of the examples have brown hair and brown eyes
Thank you for this video! It makes so much sense! As a person with more masculine features and as i grow older i definitely see the benefits of makeup. But it is really an effort that i need to make and with a full schedule ...😅

I personally never liked prominent jawlines on women's faces.
Thank you for explaining this 😂
Haha you're welcome! We already know certain things make us look better, we just can't always articulate why ❤
Thinner brows are trendy now again!
I think that people with masculine features make the most interesting faces! Apparently what model agencies deliberately look for in female models :)
Same
I'm terrified of blush and contouring.
You should try a lighter color for your brows to soften the T-Zone!
You've elevated the art of makeup to a science almost - I feel really nerdy hearing you explain all the hypotheticals, probabilities, experiments, shapes, sizes etc 😃
Love it ❤❤❤
True that, love the scientific approach too!
Haha I am such a nerd 🙈 I'm glad you like the way I explain things! ❤
A side part and slightly lighter color in the brow heads tend to make the nose bridge appear less prominent!
@stylemejenn that makes a lot of sense because I prefer a side part and I also tweeze the heads of my brows to visually space them apart.
Can you please please do a video on thin lips? A video that has nothing to do with fillers
I'm actually planning on a philtrum video where I'll tie in thin lips ❤

Hi Jenn! Not sure if you’ve already done this since I just found your channel, but I’d love a video on why I look better with my hair tied back!
Added to topics list! ❤
I love dua lipa lip fillers looking so natural 😍
Why your channel isn’t already at 100k is beyond me.
Ahhhh one day!! Thank you for the sweet comment ❤ ❤ ❤
That's true, it's really good quality analyses and advices. This is an excellent channel😊
If you're not doing gua sha you should !!
I would love to see more glow up analyses!
That's a great point! Thank you ❤
You are so right. I for example look very sleepy with no eyeliner. Keep going with the series ❤
I'm glad you liked the video!
I also look really sleepy with no eyeliner and it is such an issue. I wish I could just pop on a little mascara and a bold lip and be done with my makeup. I live in NYC and believe it not, very few women here wear heavy eye makeup on normal days. Just me.
@@wenzer2001I have to wear eye makeup too Ans am in nyc . You are not alone !!
Any tips?
I'm not sure if I understand your description correctly - are you saying that your lower third appears longer with age and losing fat in your cheeks?
I’m not conventionally pretty, so I appreciate this video.
I saw Becky g getting her makeup done and she is the type that can handle heavy eye makeup. I was surprised how small her eyes appeared without eye makeup
Lovely and positive video as always ❤
Jenn, would you ever do a tutorial on who can wear red hair, thinking both of skin tone and general appearance. Oh, and also effects of levels of red such as the difference between Coppers and Auburn's for example? Quite a big ask! 😅

oooh love this!!! ❤

I wish I could do more eye makeup but I’m just too lazy and don’t have the skills
You have the best videos! What you explain makes a lot of sense. Your topics are more specific and therefore so more helpful - thank you 🙏
You are so welcome! I'm glad you're finding my content helpful ❤
Could you actually analyse dasha taran, madison beer and faaarii?
I agree with most of what you say except the terminology. Personally, I think referring to those features of hers as yang dominant rather than masculine would be a better way.
I also think Dua's no makeup, or "no-makeup makeup looks" are among the more "feminine looking" Looks for her. It's the bold and glam looks that are hit or miss. They either make her shine in a glamorous way, or make her resemble a drag queen. And I can't tell what exactly in the makeup makes the difference
Thanks for the suggestion! Yin/Yang makes sense :)
I noticed sometimes she adds even MORE to her already thick brows which I don't think is necessary, and I think it might be what's contributing to the more "drag queen" looks you mentioned!
I think when you’re speaking to a general audience who may not understand what yang dominant means masculine is the way to go
@@Moonlitoblivion222 the reason I'm against it is that those women will grow resentful because their female features aren't "feminine", and that can be avoided by introducing the yin/yang into our understanding.
And you're not the only one fooled by the wrong use of those words
I agree that there is nothing wrong with women having yang features, or men having yin features for that matter. I also don't think that using masculine *should* make women insecure. Unfortunately, it's still not exactly the right term, and I just think in a few year's time it would benefit everyone in this area of interest to learn about yin/yang instead :)
Can you talk about noses next? Like the facial weight of it masculine/femininity of it and how to contour it based on ur face?❤

From what I understand, the more heavy features and angularity, the more makeup in general!
I’ve been looking for a video like this for a long time. I have stronger features but my eyes are deep set and look more small.
Same here
Jenn could you explain why my big eyes can not pull out a long and big eyelash😢
It could also be your crease line - do you have a narrow crease line?? I find with narrow crease lines the heavier thick lashes make the eyes appear more closed off!
She totally looks more beautiful in natural makeup.
💯
I feel like the thumbnail was practically clickbait. Her natural face is so beautiful, and the made up face looks like generic Instagram face.
It really depends on your whole face! I don't necessarily think that more feminine features = less makeup though
This explains so much! Amazing video; I always wondered why a bold lip looked wrong on me and why more eye makeup worked like magic.
I'm glad you resonated with the video! ❤️
Me too! I will happily do like 6 shades of eyeshadow, some liner, mascara and fill-in the brows for a natural makeup look but the smallest hint of colour on the lips is, like, whoa! too much.
You never need more makeup. Period.
mic drop.
Welcome to the channel! I'm glad the video was helpful :)
I’ve actually never found Dua Lipa to be particularly beautiful/attractive. I always thought she was average-looking (for a celebrity who capitalizes on looks) and that much of her appeal was engineered marketing.
Same!!!
Maybe that's the case for you because she's not the so-called "conventionally attractive" (or what I believe to be American / Hollywood standard), but that doesn't mean she isn't beautiful/attractive. Her ethnic background is what makes her beauty so unique.
@@aimorganai do think she is conventionally pretty. Like Basic pretty.
@@nna2341 exactly. If I knew her in real life, she’d be pretty, but her brand is based on her looks, which, while nothing wrong with them, aren’t exceptional or unique to my eye.
@@nna2341 100%
What would you advise for small length in lips but some width creating a small pout but a large nose tip like Julia
I'd advise you to watch my "Don't Wear Red Lips" video! :D
I am literally unrecognizable in full hair and makeup. I'm a 2 day to day, and a 9 when made up. That's that Julia Roberts face. It completely throws everyone off.
Super interesting!!!❤

This was helpful as I have similar features to those women you used as an example in the video - thank you!

I think you mean Dua Lipa has deep-set eyes and Cara Delevigne has protruding eyes??
@@stylerefinement no, not at all.
When the bone that is between the eyelids and eyebrow is visible and goes forward and the eyeball sits deep and "touches" your eye bone it is considered deep set.
Some other examples would be Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Nina Dobrev, Keira knightley, and Emma Watson.
A lot of makeup artists consider that before applying makeup by looking at the profile but if you have an eye for detail you will see it from any angle.
This is so fascinating! I'm glad RUclips recommended me this vid.
I'm glad you liked the video! ❤
