Part of Birmingham North Cycle Route and NCR 535 on Banner's Gate Road approaching Sutton Park. Badly designed infrastucture like this is a waste of money.
Never mind road users having priority - the real silliness is that drivers would already be expected to look out for and give way to any pedestrians on that path before pulling out- there's no reason the cycle lane can't work in the same way.
But they wouldn't expect a 15mph pedestrian. My young son was nearly punted into a dual carriageway by a motorist shooting out from a driveway, straight across the pavement and straight into the cycle lane. As it was his front tyre dented her drivers door and she wanted to know how we were going to pay for the damages.
What a steaming pile sh**! Drive past there often and think how terrible it looks, even worse when you're actually on it. It must take about 20 times longer getting across that junction junction using the cycle path. BCC just don't get it!
So basically 2.5 times longer to use the cycle path to get across that junction. That salmon cyclist sign on the road as you enter the park worries me as well.
We have a lot to learn. Just look on RUclips at “Dutch Cycling “ and you can see that we only have to follow what they have done in the past 40 years. There is no problem here that they haven’t already cured so just copy them, let’s not get British and arrogant.

Im starting to believe that when it comes to cycling infra it is always safe to assume malice for what could be attributed to stupidity.

kindness ARK I have complained to the council about this piece of cycle path. Let's see how they respond.
