Yes, I saw a SovCit try this the other day in Judge Washington's court. Unfortunately, his tactic fell a little flat when all the city cited was a dent in the floor (possible tripping hazard) and a gap around one window frame. Landlord had it fixed in one day, and he was forced back to reliance on his SovCit word salad. :)

Never saw where it said she owed any rent. They also didn't seem to deny any of the complaints made about the housing. Not that I saw anyways. Once again it's a company spending "thousands" on attorney fees in court against a single mom of 3 kids who is low income.

    • @-HeyLyd-
      @-HeyLyd- Год назад +2

@@krissijane6189 If you watched the hearings on this case, this clearly isn't about unpaid rent; it's about many other lease violations. You can try and make the landlord the bad guy, but that doesn't explain the parade of neighbors who've testified to the violations that they cited. Minor damages or repair issues in a unit that do not affect habitability or safety are not sufficient to stay an eviction such that the landlord must address them, so the landlord need not respond to her effort to make them sound relevant.
I hope this mom found subsidized housing elsewhere and has learned to be a better tenant and neighbor so that she doesn't put her kids through something like this again.

    • @krissijane6189
      @krissijane6189 Год назад

@HeyLyd skimmed your response as it is very long and you took my comment incorrectly. I was replying to the original comment which implied people who don't pay rent try to file code complaints. I said there didn't appear to be unpaid rent involved.
      1. The list of extremely ridiculous violations shows a flood of violations right after she filed a complaint to HUD. That's a problem for me.
      2. The other tenants coming in to testify don't seem to have clean hands to me. I would take their he said she said with a grain of salt.
      3. Children can be cruel. Should they be homeless for it ? Should children fighting with other children be allowed to be brought up during an eviction? I think that's pretty uncalled for.
      Just my opinion.

Our government is subsidizing this behavior. The rules she broke would kick her out of HUD. She’s an idiot and her kids are the ones who will pay. She doesn’t watch her kids, smokes in the unit, she’s a danger to the other residents who are elderly or have disabilities. It is infuriating to watch that entitlement. Our government has to buckle down and needs to drug test and enforce every rule for every recipient to protect those who need and deserve it.

The problem is that the government can't just turn away from people who can't or won't help themselves. If she can't find housing and her kids are living in a car, then the government may still get involved through a CPS case, where they house and support her children and provide her services, to probably get her right back with her kids into government-subsidized housing. The issues are complex, and I can see why the judge wants to see if she can preserve her ability to find housing elsewhere by avoiding an eviction on her record. I don't know what it's going to take for her to get her act together; but if she doesn't, unless we shoot her to the moon, society and taxpayers will be picking up the slack some way or another.

And if she can't be a decent enough tenant and neighbor to avoid eviction, she may end up homeless and living in a car, then a CPS call is almost guaranteed. She needs to realize that she's vulnerable to these things and make better choices to protect her children.

The problem is everything is handed to her for free. She is living up to the expectations that society has for single moms. If she had to actually work to make it, she would be more likely to better herself and take pride in her accomplishments.
We have to stop the welfare state. We are crippling people and holding them back. Welfare was supposed to be a short term measure or stopgap for people. Instead we have generations living on public assistance and we are rewarding women for having children without a spouse.
Holding people accountable for their actions and poor decisions is needed. Give stipulations on support (need to work x number of hours/week or be in school) to qualify) or a time limit on how long they can be on it. Offer education money, job training, offset daycare costs, etc during that time.

Very well said. Couldn't agree more. I could go even further with how it has caused so many people in society today to become lazy and obese and/or drug addicts. Not all, but so many people on welfare and food stamps have no ambition to better themselves through education or work experience. The system itself is more at fault than anything. Why work when you can stay home and watch TV all day and pay 25 bucks a month for rent vs having to get a job which then requires a decent vehicle which then requires money for fuel and then either significantly reduces or eliminates all government assistance. In many people's minds it is much more beneficial to them and their family (if they have one) to not work and stay on welfare. If there was strict limitations and restrictions to receiving government assistance like you mentioned then perhaps it would motivate more folks to contribute to society and at the same time better themselves financially

Yet, I also think she’s doing the best she can with what she has, which can be just as true as her being a mess-those two truths are not mutually exclusive.
I hope she can get her act together. Seems like she’s had a tough life, and it definitely wasn’t all her own doing.
And yeah, her son is a bully. His behavior and scratchy little antagonistic voice makes that obvious. He torments every kid unlucky enough to be in the same classroom or bus with him.
