It’s easy to think Rieger is too stoic and emotionless, but this was his hour. He shined and I absolutely love him for it. There is no prosecutor who could’ve been more perfect for Mr. White’s case.

I mean, it makes sense to go pro se on that. Why pay an attorney's billable hours to beat a $45 fine? The arithmetic on that is stupid unless the attorney's taking that pro bono to secure such a potentially lucrative client with prospects of much future business.
But if and *only* if you have self-control, genuine understanding of the legal issues and processes involved, and -- of course -- an actual valid defense case.

To be fair, he didn't really need an attorney, he just needed to know where the Share Screen button in Zoom is. He'd still have lost, but he'd have lost with an attorney anyway.

In florida, if you hire a lawyer, you don't have to show up to traffic court and the least you'll get is a withheld adjudication with a withhold of the court costs which is almost the same as what you pay the lawyer. Withheld adjudication means nothing happened, no points, but you pay the fine.

I Pro Se-ed myself on a minor speeding ticket once to see what court was like since I was paying court costs anyway. Obviously I was hoping they wouldn't show but damn they brought the county attorney and everything lol. I immediately plead guilty lmao

It never fails to amaze me how pro se defendants really think the court should hold their hand and help them. However to expect the prosecutor to help you….. you had to of hit every branch of the stupid tree while falling out onto your head.

Everyone makes mistakes. An adult will admit he messed up and accept the consequences. A child will blame others and eschew any personal responsibility. Guess which one he's being.
As if it weren't bad enough already... After the judge orders him to pay by the end of the day, he counters with "Usually you have 14 days." If that's true, it's from the date of the ticket, not after you've been to court three times, thrown a hissy fit over not being able to play a video you're in possession of, and told the judge you're not paying anything until you've talked to the Attorney General! For heaven's sake, grow up.
All this over a traffic ticket? You'd think he was on trial for kidnapping the Lindberg baby.
Pretty sure that him taking the afternoon off work would have cost him more than the $45 speeding ticket he could have paid straight away. Now he's lost income and still has to pay the speeding ticket.

Hire an attorney for a minor traffic violation? Any Lawyer I have had contact with would cost three or four times what the fine would be. Now if it involved drugs or a DUI then YES a Lawyer is required.
