The song does make you think of things the Golden Girls say to each other - or characters like, say, Niles and CC (who everyone thought really didn't like each other.)
Angela Lansbury truly looks like she is having the time of her life performing this- an old school star who can sell a number effortlessly. And Bea Arthur’s comic timing is perfection. You can tell how much they love doing this.
I was thinking the same thing Landsbury was indeed having a good time. I wonder how many times those two have performed that routine. Loved Landsbury dress too.
Not many folks know that these two were EXTREMELY close friends. And this duet was fantastically performed by these two legends. God bless them both they were in a class of actors all to themselves.
@TomasMAcevedo That distinction isn't necessary. Language is always changing and we've decided actor is a word that serves for everyone. You don't have to like it, but it's silly to think language doesn't evolve.
I didn't know they were close friends! They're so talented that they could have hated each other in real life and we'd never know it because they were professionals. So that's great to know.
Nobody has a better sense of comedic timing that Bea Arthur. She knows to come in a half beat late, after Angela as she digests the insult with the withering stare. Its not an accident. she does it twice. Don't even think of rushing her in comic dialogue. She can milk a laugh almost as good as Jack Benny
The Bea Arthur withering stare - she was the master (mistress?) and could keep it up longer than you'd think would be funny. I just wish I could do it as well!
@@cair124 Her facial expressions and gestures here are very much the same as Dorothy's, I realize now. Granted, I'm sure Vera is a lot like Dorothy in some ways, but she's a different character.
I have to ask if you could indicate exactly where the two spots are that Bea comes in half-beat late. I am a musician and know the song well, but you claim it’s after an insult is thrown at her; I don’t think she actually does it where you think. Can’t believe I’m asking but you have me curious.
Julian Regis I think he’s talking about a comic beat, not a literal musical beat. She knows exactly how long to hold her reaction and can get away with holding it longer than most performers.
Bea was a remarkably woman with great talents - with an unusually but lovely deep voice. There will be no more another woman like her. RIP Bea, you were wonderfull - you ARE wonderfull ;-)
The day after seeing Lansbury in " Sweeney Todd" at the Kennedy Center some time in the 80's, I saw her out playing tourist wearing a floor length silver fox coat. Talk about old scool glamour.....
I just wanna say that Bea Arthur was the ultimate person who could really make people laugh. There's nobody else like her, absolutely NOBODY else like her...and there never will be. We miss you, Bea.
Angela would have been a good fit for one of the roles on Golden Girls - except that then we couldn't have had Murder She Wrote because both were being done at the same time. Believe it or not, the actor who is Dorothy's ex on Golden Girls also plays one of Jessica Fletcher's cop friends. He has funny things going on in his own life, like Stan.
I hope the audience where both of you have gone are enjoying the show. You two were class acts no matter what you were in. Good night ladies and RIP to both of you.😂
What makes that performance particularly special is that those legendary ladies were actually very close friends in real life until the very end. We love you, we miss you, and we will never forget you Ms. Arthur! Ms. Lansbury we love you, and please, please, stay with us as long as possible!
Years ago, (1970 or 71) we did this in high school, like so many others. But the lyrics are so good, we had a lot of giggles to get past to get blocking and delivery down pat. At that time I wondered who would be the best for these roles... Years later, here's the answer. Bless you both Ladies.
I LOVE IT! First time Ms. Lansbury hosted the Emmys, she brought attention to the best award show around and did it for several years. As one magazine said about her dress, "The dress was meant to wow and it did."
When I took my parents out to Fire Island for Yom Kippur services, this nice man in front of us spent 15 minutes chatting with them. When I whispered, "Do you know who that is? That's Jerry Herman," Their mouths dropped to the floor.
I used to want Angela to be my Nana was little and she was on Murder She Wrote! I was 4 when that show started and I loved it!! I loved Bea on GG and found Maude in my 20s...a few years ago. I met Bea in 2000 and she was awesome and gracious! Legends, both of them!
One of the things that makes this such a great performance is that you know the two of them are having such a great time up there on stage. you can see it in the performance and you can hear it in the audience reaction.
I met her in NYC when she was doing a little night music in 2009. I had always wanted to meet her and waited at the stage door in the afternoon with my copy of bedknobs and broomsticks for her to sign, and when I finally saw her coming toward me, I couldn’t say anything. All I said was Miss Lansbury, and she said, “yes?” And I felt like an idiot. She signed my video though 😂. I’ll never forget it.
I was in a high school production of this show in 1971... It was fun then just being in it. Watching these two veteran actresses belting out one of my favorite songs, with all the glares, dirty looks, and claws barely controlled, The writing in this song shows the glaring difference between the 'good old days' and 'now'.
Sheer delight, absolute perfection from two of Broadway's greatest legends. But it pains me too, to see this - why oh why can't we see songs of this caliber, musicals of this level (Mame), and performances like this, that make me wanna jump on stage next to them and join in...? The shows of today, esp those Disneyesque musicals (Lion King) leave me flat...but this, THIS sends my soul SOARING. Grand prize
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. If only the film had been done with style and Angela as Mama we would have her forever. A time capsule of one of the last great Broadway Musicals. Angela was pure heaven on stage. Love this clip, wish it went on and on.... Thank you.
Bea Arthur.. From Maude to Golden Girls.. you made my childhood Friday nights funnier and happier.. I loved your pioneering role in Maude.. and your ironhearted support in Golden Girls.. Thank You for 37 years of reruns whenever I visit Grandmaws House.. I know Rue and Betty will miss you greatly as would the world of TRUE Golden Girls Fans!!!!
OMGosh, Angela and Bea. Angela is something else, and Bea, well she's something else. What a duo this was! Oh great entertainment from two great ladies.
Lucy did almost everything she tried, better than almost anyone else who tried it, for decades, but we all have limitations. Its not the worst thing to have found yours, even if thousands end up seeing them in glaring show lights. It is the worse thing to sit on your successes and just keep sitting. I give her credit for taking the risk. I give Angela credit for personifying Mame indelibly in our hearts and imagination. Lansbury will never be our Lucy Ricardo.
How sublime. And how wonderful it is to see them revisiting past glories after they'd become known on TV for vastly different characters. Class. It's missing these days.
Bea: if i kept my hair natural like yours id be bald
Sophia in the audience: Please that would be an improvement.
Bea: MA!!!
I'm screaming at this! 😂😂😂😂😂
NOT NOW MA!
I'm going to go sit outside under some SHADY PINES.
The song does make you think of things the Golden Girls say to each other - or characters like, say, Niles and CC (who everyone thought really didn't like each other.)
Lmfao 🤣 I love this!
How many people are with me on this? I love Angela's dress!
Was just saying that to myself
That dress is everything!
Fantastic Dress that one of Angela but who has chosen Bea,' s dress?
she always has been a stylish lady
Angie loves her dresses with low necklines. And I think it's perfect.

RIP Angela and Bea. They're reunited and singing this one together again. 💙
What a legendary performance performed by 2 QUEENS!!!
One of whom is still with us.
Can you just feel the class here or what?
Not many folks know that these two were EXTREMELY close friends. And this duet was fantastically performed by these two legends. God bless them both they were in a class of actors all to themselves.
I think I heard they really were friends.
They’re ACTRESSES, not actors! They’re women.
Wild to fathom Ms. Arthur passed 13 years ago. Today, Ms. Lansbury has exited the stage. May they both rest peacefully. 💜 #AngelaLansbury #BeaArthur
❤

Brian Turner Angela is awesome and so is bea Arthur
The Bea Arthur withering stare - she was the master (mistress?) and could keep it up longer than you'd think would be funny. I just wish I could do it as well!

Dorothy Zbornak and Jessica Fletcher on Broadway!

Angela Lansbury looks simply stunning here!! That body is fabulous!
I just wanna say that Bea Arthur was the ultimate person who could really make people laugh. There's nobody else like her, absolutely NOBODY else like her...and there never will be. We miss you, Bea.
You are right the height & that amazing deep voice.
Angela always looks so great in those portrait collar gowns.
A duet between Dorothy Zbornak and Mrs Potts.
My life is complete.
Angela turned 95 a few days ago! Im so happy a few legends of this era are still with us. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
this makes me so happy to know some legends are still with us
Those ladies are treasures.
SMASHING dress on Angela!!
Very flattering
"The real title of this show is 'Vera' - they only changed the name because Jerry Herman couldn't think of a rhyme for it." - Bea Arthur
Sondheim could. . .
@@fkd1963 if sondheim wrote it, it would not rhyme
@@niklasjonathan8771 you're going to have to elaborate on that comment. I don't know what you mean
Which sounds very much like something Bea or Mame would say to the other, or something Dorothy would say.
They make it look so effortless, and that they are having the best time. THAT is the mark of REAL talent.
OMG imagine if they had recreated this with Blanche and had Sophia back stage making snarky comments and Rose in the audience
Angela would have been a good fit for one of the roles on Golden Girls - except that then we couldn't have had Murder She Wrote because both were being done at the same time. Angela's dress is amazing.
This was Jessica Fletcher and Dorothy Zbornak at the time so it makes it even better.
Two Legends!! RIP Dame Angela Lansbury 💕
I hope the audience where both of you have gone are enjoying the show. You two were class acts no matter what you were in. Good night ladies and RIP to both of you.😂
Can you imagine what it was like to see these two artists do this front row center, live each evening?
So glad that Bea Arthur was on our side when she was a truck driver for the Marines!
One of the sad things of this world; that there was never a cross over episode between *Murder, She Wrote* and *The Golden Girls.*
That old good Hollywood.....Miss it sooooooo much 😪
Fabulous entertainers, no one like them today
The ending was so cute!
What makes that performance particularly special is that those legendary ladies were actually very close friends in real life until the very end.
We love you, we miss you, and we will never forget you Ms. Arthur! Ms. Lansbury we love you, and please, please, stay with us as long as possible!
These girls are great! Somebody should sign them up
Only the two of them together can make that number work.
Years ago, (1970 or 71) we did this in high school, like so many others.
But the lyrics are so good, we had a lot of giggles to get past to get blocking and delivery down pat.
At that time I wondered who would be the best for these roles...

Just The Absolute Best!!!
Bea and Angela! Two very tall very talented and very classy ladies!
Love how they sell it at the end.
Ladies and gentlemen I give you Dame Angela Lansbury.

This has given me more pleasure than I can say!!!

I´d love to meet Mrs. Lansbury and thank her for all those wonderful films and series she did!!!
so would i! went to mendocino, california a couple of years ago. they did the location shooting for cabot cove, maine there!
I met her in NYC when she was doing a little night music in 2009. Love Bea Arthur
I have an old record of the broadway show and it's on of my prized posessions.
Literally these two queens are absolute legends, RIP BEA ARTHUR 😭😭❤️❤️

what a great team. Thanks to video we get to keep them a little lo ger.
These 2 are just beyond fantastic i repeat fantastic in these roles. Wow no wonder they won Tony awards
What a great Vera Charles Bea was! Her amazing talents will be missed by many.
"Thanks for the memories!"
I saw them when the touring company came to Los Angeles in 1968 or '69.
As the commercial says, "Priceless!"
These ladies are personified class and elegance.
Pure delight!! Two women who have done and seen it all!!
Greatest duet in the history of entertainment.
Perhaps tied with Garland and Streisand.
Rest in peace. What an amazing talent

I'm not talking about Disney, but there have been some fine shows made in recent years. I'm sorry you don't agree.
I hope they get to do this again now that they've reunited. What class acts.
RIP Dame Angela Lansbury a true star
I love them so much!

I love their reactions to each others comments, especially Angela's!
Such a cute, great song!
Just perfect!! Those were the days when Hollywood stars still had some class and glitter, nowadays it's all gone for some reason:(
OMG..... this is so classic.... now THIS is what I call making history
fabulous both
gotta love the greats

What a duo!,!!!👍🦉
Two of the greatest comedic actresses of this or any generation! Castmates from the original Broadway production of Mame.
Even though Angela was not at the Tony's this year she finally got her lifetime achievement award for 2022
perfect song for bea!
I would be bald! is my favourite bit.
These two are more like sisters than my own family are. Love them both! Dorothy will never be gone in my mind.
I would love to see them on Broadway back in the day!
Bea always make my day.She just lighten up my life when i am depresss::)) you will be miss 4 sure..
Angela always looks so elegant and gorgeous.
R.I.P. to Jerry Herman who wrote this song for these two Bosom Buddies
OMGosh, Angela and Bea. Angela is something else, and Bea, well she's something else. What a duo this was! Oh great entertainment from two great ladies.
OMG - does it get ANY better in the theatre! :) Two Grand Dames, belting it out!!!! :)
the best part in this video when they dancing that is my favorite .

Fabulous..2 of my favourite stars....it has to be said, I do wish there was more talent like these to carry on the tradition.
I just had to come and watch this again today. RIP Bea !!
This, folks, is Broadway. And we will never see their like again!
OMG I love these two beautiful ladies.
Those Positive Moves have really been paying off!
Diss-Fest 87. With two of the classiest ladies who ever walked planet Earth. God I miss Bea Arthur!
I miss Bea.
I love both of them 🥰🥰
With Bea Arthur the theatrical world has lost one of its finest and most valuable stars ... Dear Bea, you´ll be always on my mind and in my memory!
This is total entertainment from beginning to end - simply superb.
I wish Angela had been in the movie... I'd love to have seen her as Mame.
Hollywood rarely gave her leads. The Manchurian Candidate seemed to be a fluke.
Its why she went back to stage performing. Then slayed television.
