Hey Kristopher, amazingly helpful video as usual :) sort-of off topic question for you. I'm about to install raised beds, but have heard they make a great hideout for slugs... hiding under the ledges of wooden sides. Just wondering what you'd recommend to combat this? Keep up the good work!

Wish you could have tried this on normal compacted soil as yours is soooo loose that the weeds havent taken hold and are extremely easy to just pop up out from the soil

Takes a little more elbow grease but way better than pulling. I just bought one, had two options at True Value and I went with the one that had a more heavy duty handle. Worth the $29 for the size yard I have

Something interesting: This is gonna be my first year gardening
    My favorite vegetable: potatoes
What I'm growing this year: silver choice sweet corn hybrid
What I think of the action hoe: I'm skeptical, but intrigued. I have a large field I need to till in my yard for pumpkins and corn
I'm excited to see if this is a good investment!

Skepticism is healthy! This isn't a tiller though, it's a hoe. If you're wanting to till a large field then you'll definitely need a different tool. Corn can be tricky. Have you looked into the "three sisters" method of growing corn, beans, and pumpkins? Happy gardening.

when you cut the weeds, can you just leave them in the soil? wont they just grow back?

    • @ceeemm1901
      @ceeemm1901 2 месяца назад

Usually when most plants get cut just below the soil it's hard for them to grow back. but if they do, a couple more cuts will exhaust them. The roots become organic compost for the earth critters!

@@ceeemm1901 Thanks! good to know. I have just gone over the area again that gets a lot of weeds and there doesnt look like there is much new growth :)

Good review, thanks. I don’t use an action hoe but on the market for one! I was wondering if it was worth it and after watching a few videos, it definitely seems like a good tool. How long does it take you to weed all your garden, by doing it twice weekly? Is the hoe always enough or if you skip a weeding and do it once a week as exemple, will the weeds be stronger than the hoe?! Or I guess it would pull the weeds but they could grow back because they wouldn’t die from being disturbed since they were larger/stronger?
Last question, have you tried the rounded hoes? Same as yours but the blade is curved. Johnny seed’s says the rounded one is excellent for onions. I don’t really get the difference, aside from the fact that the rounded one is a bit smaller and maybe more precise but.. I don’t get why it works so much better on onions versus the straight-blade hoes.

Great video! So cool! My favorite vegetables are parsnips right now, but unfortunately I am not growing them (yet!). This tool seems like a great investment, I might have to buy one soon!

When you break the weeds, their roots are still there. With the first watering, they will grow back quickly. And since you will cut them again, the roots will become bigger and bigger. From what you show in the video, your are leaving the pieces of plants there. They will still grow and now you will have two weed plants.
It would be much better if after watering you pull out the weeds one by one (with the roots). It will take the same time and the results will last longer.
This hoe is meant to lift up compressed and dried soil (press the hoe at least 5cm into the ground), because the regular one would pull the soil with it. By not lifting up the soil, you are not letting any air in it, which would be beneficial for the plants.

Nah. The roots can’t continue to grow indefinitely without the leaves. Eventually the roots get starved of sunlight and die off. That’s how I finally got rid of bindweed. I just kept pulling every little bit as soon as it started to grow and eventually the whole thing died. You do have to be tenacious and regular about it though. This tool would have really helped if I had known about it. 😅

Definitely will not take the same amount of time. I just cleared a 4’ x 35‘ dog run on the side of my house in under 30 min using this tool. Pulling would take like 2+ hrs and 3 days of lower back recovery :) I do agree about removing the weed after cutting though, no sense letting remaining seeds sit there on the ground
