I remember the U.S. trials leading to the Championship, where Lewis was arguably even more impressive than here. In the Trials finals, Burrell had an EXPLOSIVE start, while Lewis, on the other hand, sat in the blocks. Lewis was absolutely left behind at the start even more so than here, while Burrell crushed the field out of the blocks. Lewis put on a display of speed that was, at that time, unparalleled in the history of sprints. He walked that entire field, except Burrell, like they were little boys. He was closing on Burrell FURIOUSLY, but ran out of track for a time of 9.90. Lewis and Burrell had the same coach, and the coach conceded that while Burrell set the WR, Lewis had the more impressive performance. Here's a link to that race, which if you note THAT field, was the second greatest field ever assembled, by the end of 1991. ruclips.net/video/fYv38-a1CN0/видео.html

I recommend the book Inside track, biography of Carl Lewis. What I have concluded by reading it is that Carl Lewis was a great personality and the one who actually started first to speak openly in public about missusing of streoids in athletics by many champions. Then some of them were caught and banned. One can also see how people who are using streoids look like gorilas with big muscles. Carl Lewis had a body as a stronger teenager. But his mother and father were sprinters and athletic coaches. So he got great talent and had great genetics for a sprinter. He was a very pious and spiritual person and with much more humility then many modern sprinters who were often shouting in front of cameras after the victory "I am the best"....
His running style is one of the most elegant ever seen in track and field history

Great race. But awful commentary from David Coleman. If it was up to me I would have sacked him just on that commentary alone. AWFUL. Calling the Burrell the winner ? And David Coleman has history with mumbling his words with many athletics races. I don't even think it was that harder of a race commentate on as you could see Lewis was mowing them down from 60m onwards

He never set an outdoor record. he raised his hands in Indianapolis during a possible 200 m record and lost out. I stand corrected, when he lost to, Ben Johnson in Tokyo, his time was considered the world's record because of Johnson's disqualification PEDs.

Lewis started slowing down intentionally at the US championships in 1983 over the 200 metres with about 25 m to go when he saw that he'd won, including over the long jump rival Larry Myricks - but this run the 9.86, was a world record!

Carl Lewis was 30 at the time. Far from his youth.
He wasn't even a 100m specialist. He did long jump also and 200m. Probably the best sprinter of our time. I reckon he'd have beaten Bolt

Lewis ran that time in the quarterfinals with a +4.3w. But back then illegal times could stand as championship times.
