Why I Upgraded from the X100V to the X-Pro 3: First Impressions with Sample Images

  • I have owned every X100 series camera to date and I absolutely love them. There are a few things that hold them back though: Having only one card slot for such an incredible camera is just sad to me because I would definitely use the X100V for weddings almost primarily. They are also limited to focal length which really doesn’t bother me, just going off of other photographers preferences on that one.

    I wish Fujifilm would build more lenses like the 18mm f2 and 27mm f2.8 though. I think the size of those lenses really suite the rangefinder-style bodies of the X-Pro and X-E bodies especially for "life documentary" photos.

    • @hunterhart1
      @hunterhart1  Год назад +1

      I agree. I just think it’s so hard to get the fast motors in something so small and to have a faster aperture they need more glass. I do wish the 18mm 1.4 was a bit smaller like the 27mm (I’ve been shooting with this lens as well and it really feels like a larger X100). Maybe with time and technological advancements they’ll be able to figure it out. Thanks for watching man.

    Great photos Hunter. Love the xpro3 but really hope the 4 has the same screen as the x100v. One use case for me is photos of my kids. Would prefer not to always have to flip out screen to do so. Also, do you shoot your wedding with Fuji or Sony? Just curious. Have a great trip!

    • @hunterhart1
      @hunterhart1  Год назад

      I think the screen from the X100V would be great too, however I love this screen because when you’re in a third world country or surrounded by children anywhere they don’t flock to see their images on the screen when they realize there’s not one there (kinda) You can always show them at the end of an assignment or when you’re comfortable showing them. If they made a 4th one with the X100V screen I’d be happy as well but would just keep this camera for certain use cases I believe. I do shoot my weddings on fujifilm. I shot them on canon, Leica and Sony before but I prefer Fuji (Leica is right there with Fuji to me but it just gets so expensive). Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Outside of weddings I have no interest in Canon so am really trying hard to go full Fuji. With the new 56 my lens lineup is complete and the x-h2s is a workhorse that I can rely on. Spending the off-season gathering my thoughts on it. haha

    • @hunterhart1
      @hunterhart1  Год назад

      @@j.sauer.photo_ you may decide to only use canon for weddings. A lot of people do this to “keep the fun in Fuji” so they don’t burn themselves out with the cameras. I always say “it’s really hard to buy a bad camera now and it’s all just preference.” I’ve shot weddings on Canon, Sony, Leica and Fuji and nobody ever knows the difference at the end and photographers ask often what I’m shooting with at weddings so they must not notice either. So to me those questions tell me everything which is, it’s all about what you want to shoot with. I’ve considered trying the only shooting Sony method at weddings so I could save my passion for the Fujis but idk (I may try it this year).

    I recently got an Xpro 3 (actually the day just before Fuji announced they discontinued it!) and my Leica TL2 has just sat in its bag ever since. I have the 23mm f2 R WR on the XP3, and the Summicron 23mm f2 on the Leica. Overall quality of the lens goes to the Leica lens without a doubt. Everything else...absolutely the Fuji. The AF is lightning fast where as the Leica is pretty much only good for stationary objects. The Fuji has weather sealing, the Leica doesn't. And there's a few other things. I think the biggest factor I'm finding is how much FUN I have with the Fuji. It's just a blast to aim it at anything and everything, trying to take a good picture of whatever the subject matter is. My only gripe with the XP3 is I wish fuji explained the "recipes" and custom settings a little better. I read the manual to try and understand how to create and save recipes, but it didn't help at all. I had to hit RUclips to learn how to do it. If there's an XP4, I hope fuji makes it so that you can hit a button and switch between your custom profile and a factory profile. That would save a ton of pain instead of having to go into settings then change profiles manually.

    • @hunterhart1
      @hunterhart1  Год назад +2

      Very nice. Of course Leica wins with optics, they’re incredible and incredibly expensive for that very reason. So I assigned my custom film recipes to the button inserted in the lever that flips your evf to ovf on the front of the camera. I left the very first film recipe blank as a standard profile so it’s quick to get to and the rest are custom. This may help you. But yeah, I would have never figured out how to properly save one without RUclips. Thanks for watching

    I love my X-Pro3 to bits, the only flaw I can find is that much like the X100V it isn't entirely reliable as compared with previous Fujis. I've had to send both to the repair shop. But for the design, feel - the simple pleasure of using - both are the best cameras I've ever used in ten years of shooting. Also regarding smudges, rub your thumbs over the entire casing so it's one big smudge, step back and admire. It actually looks pretty fine in a different way if you do that, and you don't have to be perpetually getting your cloth out to 'clean it up'. The 18mm f/2 works great with the X-Pro3, and I just use my 18mm f/1.4 for the low-light shoots. Photo book of the day: Letizia Bataglia: Photography as a Life Choice. Anyway, enjoy the X-Pro!

Thanks for the suggestions and the book. I appreciate you watching!

I prefer if Fuji will just eliminate the large back screen, keep the sub-screen but make it backlight capable, give the camera a bigger, better EVF and a dual Magnificat OVF like before, and build a reliable app to connect the phone to the camera when I need to see a bigger screen, just like the M10D. hey i already follow you on instagram! loved your work for a long time and knew you had gotten the x pro 3 a little while ago. i’m currently a sony shooter for photo and video, but as i’m moving towards more photo only for freelance outside of my commercial video production job, i got the x100v and fell in love with fuji. next up is selling all my sony stuff and going all in on fuji, starting with the x pro-3 for weddings! have you used it for a wedding?

      What’s up man? One of the reasons I traded my X100V for this camera is because I wanted the same form factor with 2 card slots, so could shoot weddings. I use this and my GFX as a second camera. If you go to my wedding website or my actual website, most of my pro work and weddings were done on Fuji.

    TBH, I simply can't see anything special with this camera. I feel that it is simply just hype and the XT-3 can deliver identical results and so can dozens of other MFT and APS-c cameras on the market. I've tried the film simulations and most f them reminded me why I prefer Kodak and Ilford films in my 40 years of photography.

      That’s okay I can understand why you don’t appreciate it. No worries. In really glad you took the time to watch and comment

      Could it be that the build quality is superior?

    Upgrade or downgrade? Which camera was released first? LOL

      I really think it depends on who you ask. I’m happy I don’t have to put on an external piece of kit to weather seal my camera, I have a second card slot, I can change my lenses, scratch proof casing, a mechanical shutter, a better grip and a hidden screen for assignment work. I’m missing a built in ND filter and leaf shutter.

      @@hunterhart1 Love my X-Pro2 and X100V. But I may skip Pro3 and jump on X-Pro4 flagship if necessary. I admit X-Pro3 is a great camera to keep until nuclear war occurs. Thanks for the comment, bro!!!

      Lol I have two Sonys. Have shot Sony for years. Great technology but their cameras don’t make me feel like an artist, it does all the work for me in my opinion.

      @@hunterhart1 Agreed. I use sony and canon for work and they feel like clunky cameras compared to the XPro3. I purchased the 3 only a couple of months ago as a personal camera that will never do work photography only personal.
